MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9400+ on April 10, 2025, and Chinese manufacturers quickly put it into real products including the realme GT7, OPPO Find X8s, OPPO Find X8s+, and vivo X200s. It was a credible Snapdragon 8 Elite alternative, but not a wholesale replacement: manufacturers continued using Snapdragon in several Ultra-tier flagships. By 2026, the 9400+ is a previous-generation platform, so its value depends on the exact phone, software, import conditions and sale price rather than the chip name alone.
What the Dimensity 9400+ is
The 9400+ is a performance-focused refresh of the Dimensity 9400, not a wholly new generation. MediaTek specifies an all-big-core CPU: one Arm Cortex-X925 at up to 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. It has a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU with hardware ray tracing, 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system cache.
The platform supports LPDDR5X memory up to 10,667Mbps and UFS 4 storage with Multi-Circular Queue (MCQ). Its modem supports 3GPP Release 17, four-component-carrier aggregation up to 7Gbps on sub-6GHz networks, Wi-Fi 7 up to 7.3Gbps with tri-band concurrency and five streams, and Bluetooth 6.0. MediaTek advertises phone-to-phone Bluetooth communication up to 10km line of sight; that is a maximum claim, not an expected urban range.

AI capabilities and claims
The NPU 890 supports mixture-of-experts models, Multi-Head Latent Attention, Multi-Token Prediction and FP8 inference. MediaTek lists support for DeepSeek-R1-Distill 1.5B, 7B and 8B models, plus an agentic-AI engine. Its SpD+ technology is claimed to make agentic-AI task inference 20% faster than on the Dimensity 9400. These are platform capabilities and vendor measurements; a phone may not expose every model or feature.
MediaTek also claims 33% faster BeiDou time-to-first-fix than the 9400. The announcement and qualification details are in MediaTek’s April 2025 release.

Dimensity 9400+ versus Snapdragon 8 Elite
The period-appropriate rival is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, announced October 21, 2024. Qualcomm’s platform uses a second-generation custom Oryon CPU, Adreno graphics and a Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm named Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, Redmi, realme, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE among launch partners in its announcement.

Clock speed cannot decide this contest. The CPUs use different architectures, and sustained gaming, cooling, battery management, camera processing, modem behavior and software optimization vary by handset. A single Geekbench run, manufacturer-selected benchmark or AI score is not a universal winner.

MediaTek’s partner display included Xiaomi, Honor, OPPO and Vivo, but a partner list is not proof that every company shipped a commercial 9400+ phone. IT Home’s reporting also identified the realme and OPPO launches at this April 2025 report.
Why the chip mattered to manufacturers
The adoption pattern points to platform diversification rather than a Snapdragon exodus. MediaTek gave Chinese brands another high-end supplier, potentially improving component-cost competition, supply resilience and negotiating leverage. It also enabled distinct product tiers: a performance-focused GT model, compact and large OPPO variants, and a camera-led vivo model.

Omdia’s comparison is important: OPPO Find X8 Ultra and vivo X200 Ultra used Snapdragon 8 Elite, while Find X8s, Find X8s+ and X200s used the 9400+. Snapdragon therefore remained prominent in prestige Ultra products even as MediaTek won meaningful design slots.

IT Home reported an April 2025 Chinese launch price of 4,199 yuan for the OPPO Find X8s series, with a reported government-subsidy price of 3,699 yuan. Those are historical launch-period figures, not reliable August 2026 prices. MediaTek silicon does not automatically make a phone cheaper: camera hardware, display, storage, battery, subsidies, taxes, warranty and seller margins determine the final price.

What buyers should check
Choose a 9400+ phone when
- You want high peak performance, large memory options, fast storage and strong battery or charging specifications in a China-market device.
- You are comfortable evaluating the exact phone’s cooling, gaming tests, camera software and firmware.
- The imported price is substantially better than a comparable Snapdragon model after tax and shipping.
Prefer a Snapdragon flagship when
- You need broad global availability, carrier certification, familiar game or emulator support, or a larger custom-ROM community.
- You specifically want an Ultra-tier model, where Snapdragon remained common.
- Your market depends on 5G mmWave. Omdia noted that the 9400+ does not support mmWave.
China-ROM checks before importing
- Confirm Google Play, notification behavior, language options and banking-app compatibility.
- Verify LTE/5G bands, VoLTE, VoWi-Fi, eSIM and Android Auto for your carrier.
- Check warranty, returns, firmware update policy and whether the seller supplies a modified ROM.
- Do not assume the chip’s AI model support means local models are installed; availability can depend on language, region, firmware and account access.

The verdict in 2026
The Dimensity 9400+ successfully challenged Snapdragon by delivering a credible flagship platform and securing several notable Chinese phone designs. Its real achievement was giving manufacturers choice in performance, segmentation and supply—not proving that one chip wins every benchmark. Since newer generations exist by 2026, buy a 9400+ phone only when the complete handset, software and import terms make sense.

It can be, but verify bands, Google services, notifications, banking apps, warranty, returns and regional AI features because these depend on the phone and ROM, not the SoC alone.
