The claim that Words With Friends has revamped its dictionary with more than 25,000 new words is not verified by the available official sources. Zynga did announce a major dictionary initiative in 2017, but it described 50,000 additions then—not a new 2026 update. Its July 2026 announcement was about a contest offering one winner the chance to add a chosen word, not a bulk expansion.
Is the 25,000-word Words With Friends update confirmed?
No. The available official announcements do not confirm that Words With Friends recently added over 25,000 words. Zynga has not established a rollout date, app version, regional availability, selection rules, or a list of words for such an update in the sources cited here.

The number should therefore be treated as an unverified claim, not as a confirmed game feature. Zynga’s 2017 Social Dictionary announcement and its July 2026 Friendiversary announcement describe different initiatives.

The 2017 Social Dictionary
In September 2017, Zynga said it was launching the Words With Friends Social Dictionary and introducing 50,000 new words. The company connected the additions to player requests and language inspired by players and pop culture. That is evidence of a historical dictionary update; it does not establish a later 25,000-word revamp.

The July 2026 Friendiversary contest
Zynga’s July 16, 2026 announcement described a 17-day in-game Friendiversary event and a “Become a Solo Star” contest. The stated prize included an opportunity for one winner to have a chosen word added to the official game dictionary and to appear as a playable character in a future Solo Challenge event. A single-winner contest is not a bulk dictionary update.

How to interpret the claim as a player
- Do not assume the 25,000 figure is accurate unless Zynga confirms it in an attributable announcement or an in-game notice.
- Do not treat Words With Friends’ game word list as interchangeable with a general English dictionary or another word game’s list. A word accepted elsewhere is not necessarily accepted in Words With Friends.
