Did Sprints Raise a €725 Million Fund? What the Record Shows

The available sources do not verify a €725 million fundraise by Sprints Capital. The documented figure for its fourth fund is €525 million, raised against a €450 million target, according to a January 2022 report. Sprints is the investor; Revolut and Vinted are companies in its portfolio, not the fund’s co-raisers.

What fundraise is documented?

City A.M. reported on January 12, 2022, that Sprints Capital had raised €525 million for Fund IV, exceeding its €450 million target. The report described the fund as focused on growth-stage technology companies in the UK and Europe. It also said Sprints’ existing investor base backed the fund and that the management team provided significant support. Read City A.M.’s report on Fund IV.

That is a specific fund close, not a total of all the money Sprints has ever raised. Sprints’ archive separately records a €150 million hard cap for its debut fund in February 2018. A hard cap is a stated ceiling for that fund; it is not interchangeable with Fund IV’s reported amount raised. Sprints’ news archive lists these as separate events.

Why the companies and the fund are easy to confuse

Sprints is the investment firm managing the fund. Revolut and Vinted are businesses it has backed. The relationship matters: a fundraise adds capital to an investment vehicle, while a company’s own fundraising adds capital to that company. Neither event should be attributed to the other just because an investor’s name and portfolio companies appear in the same headline.

Sprints’ current portfolio page lists both Revolut and Vinted. It describes Revolut as a finance app and Vinted as a second-hand marketplace. The same page lists Back Market, a refurbished-technology marketplace, and Chrono24, a luxury-watch marketplace, among the portfolio companies. Those portfolio listings identify investments; they do not establish the size or date of a Sprints fund close. See Sprints’ current portfolio descriptions.

The 2022 City A.M. report says Fund IV had already backed Vinted and Back Market. It also names Revolut among Sprints’ prior investments. These details explain why the firms appear together in coverage of the investor, but they do not mean Revolut or Vinted raised Fund IV.

Other transactions belong to different timelines

Sprints’ archive helps separate events that could otherwise be mistaken for one large fundraise. It records Sprints’ investments in Vinted in August 2019 and in Vinted’s Series F in April 2021. It also lists Revolut’s own $800 million raise in May 2021. These are company investment or fundraising events, not evidence of a €725 million Sprints fund.

The archive’s April 2026 entry says Vinted completed a secondary share transaction at an €8 billion valuation. A secondary transaction concerns shares changing hands; its stated valuation is not a fund’s capital raised. The entry is years later than Fund IV’s 2022 close and describes a different kind of event.

What can—and cannot—be concluded

The sourced record supports a €525 million close for Sprints Capital Fund IV against a €450 million target in 2022, plus a separate €150 million hard cap for the firm’s debut fund in 2018. It does not substantiate €725 million. That is a limit of the cited evidence, not proof that no separate fund or later announcement could ever account for that number.

Henrik Persson, Sprints Capital’s managing partner, told City A.M.: “We have been investing in growth companies for the last decade.” The quotation describes the firm’s investment history; it does not confirm a fund amount. Until a direct announcement or reliable report ties €725 million to a named Sprints fund and a date, that amount should not be presented as an established fundraise.
