Did RTX 50 Series Prices Rise 66% in 12 Months? What the Data Shows

The claim that RTX 50 Series prices rose 66% in 12 months, with the RTX 5090 up 132%, is not verified by the available price comparisons. Published snapshots show substantial increases, but they measure different dates, regions and kinds of prices—and none establishes those exact figures on a like-for-like basis.

What the 12-month price tracker found

PC Gamer compared the lowest prices it recorded on August 14, 2025, with the lowest prices it recorded on August 14, 2026. Its figures show increases across all eight listed desktop configurations, but not a 66% family-wide average or a 132% increase for the RTX 5090.

RTX 50 model Lowest price, Aug. 14, 2025 Lowest price, Aug. 14, 2026 Change
RTX 5050 $250 $299 +19.6%
RTX 5060 $300 $359 +19.7%
RTX 5060 Ti 8GB $368 $420 +14.1%
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB $430 $650 +51.2%
RTX 5070 $550 $755 +37.3%
RTX 5070 Ti $780 $1,030 +32.1%
RTX 5080 $1,100 $1,290 +17.3%
RTX 5090 $2,400 $4,400 +83.3%

These are PC Gamer’s recorded low-end prices, not average prices paid or a measure of every retailer listing. The percentages describe individual model configurations; they are not a weighted or unweighted RTX 50 Series average. PC Gamer’s one-year price tracker therefore supports a steep increase for the RTX 5090, but its measured increase is 83.3%, not 132%.

Why other reports show different increases

GPU price reports can differ without contradicting each other: a retailer’s lowest listing, a sampled street price, a comparison against MSRP and an average across regions answer different questions. The table below keeps the reported measures separate.

Source and snapshot Reported result What it measures
TechSpot, February 2026 RTX 5090 US price rose from $2,500 in November 2025 to $3,500 in February 2026; RTX 50 family prices averaged a 19% increase over those three months. A three-month price comparison, with regional differences noted by the publisher. TechSpot’s February 2026 snapshot.
TechSpot, August 2026 RTX 5090 at $4,900 in the US, 145% above US MSRP; 136% above MSRP across ten surveyed regions. The US figure was $3,500 in February 2026. A cross-region August snapshot and comparison with MSRP, not a year-over-year low-price tracker. TechSpot’s August 2026 comparison.
Tom’s Hardware, September 2026 US RTX 5090 listings around $5,000; roughly 60% average increase for the Blackwell family versus MSRP. A separate retail snapshot and publisher estimate, not the PC Gamer low-price series. Tom’s Hardware’s September 2026 report.

How far prices are above NVIDIA’s launch prices

NVIDIA announced US launch prices of $1,999 for the RTX 5090 and $999 for the RTX 5080 in January 2025. Those are launch prices, not current retailer quotes. Comparing them with later street prices can show how far listings sit above launch MSRP, but that is a different calculation from a year-over-year change in the lowest available price. NVIDIA’s January 2025 announcement gives the launch figures.

What the 66% and 132% headline numbers establish

The exact method and underlying data behind the 66% family figure and 132% RTX 5090 figure are not identified in the comparisons above. A meaningful price-rise claim needs to specify the date range, geography, RTX model and memory configuration, and whether it uses a minimum, listing, sampled street price or MSRP comparison. Without those details and the underlying dataset, the two headline percentages cannot be checked against the cited snapshots.

  • Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads

The available evidence does establish that RTX 50 prices rose sharply in multiple snapshots and that the increase varied considerably by model. It does not establish one universal family-wide rate: even PC Gamer’s same-date, same-method comparison ranges from 14.1% for the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB to 83.3% for the RTX 5090.
