SpecialEffect’s One Special Day 2026 included both Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers, but the campaign was not a donation for simply opening or freely playing either game. The charity said UK spending on selected mobile games on Friday, 2 October 2026, would support its work. That date has passed.
How One Special Day 2026 worked
SpecialEffect’s official One Special Day 2026 campaign page named Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers among the participating games. It described the fundraising mechanism as UK spending on selected mobile games on Friday, 2 October 2026, and encouraged supporters to spend “on and in” games including Subway Surfers. The page also named Supercell and SYBO among its mobile partners.

That wording matters: the campaign was a specific, dated spending appeal, not an ongoing promise that routine play generates a donation. The page does not say that free play alone counted, nor does it publish a donation percentage, per-game rate, minimum purchase or detailed exclusions. It therefore does not establish how much any particular purchase raised.

- Both games were listed: Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers appeared on the official 2026 list.
- The stated condition was spending: the campaign referred to UK spending on selected games on 2 October 2026.
- It was time-limited: the campaign date was Friday, 2 October 2026, which has passed.
- Free play is not established as a donation: the official description does not say that merely playing, without spending, raised money.
- No rate is published on the campaign page: it does not specify what share of a qualifying purchase went to SpecialEffect.
So the headline claim is only accurate with those qualifications: playing the games was not, by itself, shown to trigger a donation. The official appeal linked support to spending on selected games in the UK on the campaign day.

What SpecialEffect does
SpecialEffect supports people with physical disabilities who have difficulty playing particular video games. Its FAQ explains that the charity can assess an individual’s needs and, if it identifies a workable setup, loan customized equipment for a period. SpecialEffect says its advice, support visits and equipment loans are provided without charge; it does not sell equipment or fund people’s purchases.
This is the charity’s broader purpose, not a promise that a particular One Special Day purchase paid for a specific person’s device. In a statement on the campaign page, SpecialEffect COO Tom Donegan said partner contributions would help the charity share gaming with people with physical disabilities. The page refers to “thousands of people” but does not provide a more precise count or a methodology for that phrase.

How to support SpecialEffect now
Although the 2026 One Special Day date has passed, supporters can use separate fundraising routes. SpecialEffect’s stream team page invites people to organize a gaming stream, marathon or other event and raise donations through its Tiltify and JustGiving campaigns. The charity provides fundraising resources and advises streamers to plan a safe, comfortable setup.
Its fundraising guidance also describes options such as gaming streams, esports events, board-game marathons, GameBlast and industry partnerships. These are distinct from the expired One Special Day spending appeal; the guidance does not mean that ordinary purchases in either game currently produce a donation.

What to check if another game campaign is announced
For a future One Special Day or publisher campaign, use the charity’s official campaign information to confirm the date, participating titles, eligible countries and what kind of spending qualifies. Do not assume that a prior-year list or spending arrangement carries over. If the page does not state a donation rate or purchase exclusions, those details remain unconfirmed.
