The report of his October 6, 2026, Bloomberg TV interview gives no baseline, calculation, or definition of “risk.” Anthropic’s separate reports describe vulnerabilities found through defensive work with Mythos and its partners; those findings are not counts of attacks and do not verify Dimon’s multiplier.
What did Jamie Dimon say about Mythos and cyber risk?
In a report published October 7, 2026, The Business Times attributed the warning to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon in a Bloomberg TV interview the previous day. It quoted him saying AI risks “went up 10-fold after Mythos” and that “AI created vulnerabilities that we didn’t know about.” Dimon also called the downside from agents and Mythos a “legitimate concern” and said JPMorgan was working to fix the problem.

The quoted multiplier is Dimon’s reported view. The article does not say whether “risk” means more vulnerabilities, a higher chance of a successful attack, expected financial losses, JPMorgan’s own exposure, or a broader threat assessment. It supplies no supporting data series or methodology, and an underlying interview transcript is not available in the cited coverage. The figure should therefore not be presented as an established tenfold rise in cyberattacks or damage.

What can Mythos do, according to Anthropic?
Anthropic describes Claude Mythos Preview as an unreleased, general-purpose model with advanced coding abilities that can identify and exploit software vulnerabilities. On April 7, 2026, the company announced Project Glasswing, an effort to put those capabilities to defensive use on critical software. Anthropic said the model had identified thousands of high-severity flaws across major operating systems and browsers; that is the company’s account of its model and program, not an independent measurement of changing cyber risk. Anthropic’s Project Glasswing announcement also includes a statement from JPMorganChase about the value of financial institutions working together on cybersecurity.
#1 Best Overall
Anthropic has described defensive uses including vulnerability scanning, writing patches, penetration testing, threat detection, and pre-release checks. The same ability to find and exploit flaws can be dual-use: defenders may use it to locate and fix weaknesses, while similar capabilities could aid attackers. A model’s technical capability alone does not establish how many real-world attacks occur or how much damage results.
How should Anthropic’s vulnerability figures be interpreted?
Anthropic has reported several sets of findings from distinct periods and activities. They indicate vulnerabilities identified through defensive work, not attacks observed or losses incurred. The figures should not be added together or treated as a common rate of change.
| Reported figure | Scope and period | What it does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|
| More than 10,000 high- or critical-severity vulnerabilities | Initial Project Glasswing partner findings, reported by Anthropic on May 22, 2026. Anthropic’s update. | Early partner findings in important software; not a count of attacks or proof of a tenfold increase in risk. |
| At least 129,000 verified software vulnerabilities | Glasswing partner findings from April through July 2026, reported by Anthropic on October 6. The company said the total likely undercounted results because it relied on survey data from only a subset of partners. Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Program announcement. | A vendor-reported count of verified vulnerabilities found by participating partners, not observed attacks or losses. |
| 5,500 verified software vulnerabilities | Anthropic’s own open-source scanning from April through October 2026, as reported on October 6. Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Program announcement. | A separate scanning effort and period; not directly comparable to the partner total or an attack count. |
| More than 33,000 rated high or critical | Severity classifications among the findings reported by Anthropic on October 6. Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Program announcement. | A severity subset of reported findings, not a measure of successful exploitation or resulting harm. |
These numbers help explain why the technology has drawn attention: AI-assisted discovery can surface many weaknesses for defenders to address. But a vulnerability count is different from the number of flaws attackers exploit, the frequency of successful intrusions, or the resulting financial and operational damage. Anthropic’s reports do not provide an independent test of Dimon’s “10-fold” assessment.

Anthropic does not describe Mythos as generally available to the public. Its current Mythos model page says Mythos 5.1 is available only to vetted organizations through trusted access programs. In its October 6 announcement, Anthropic describes three access tiers for qualifying security teams, with advanced capabilities and reduced blocking classifiers tied to the scope of cyber work. It says generally available models retain conservative cybersecurity safeguards and that it will continue refining tier-based classifiers. These are Anthropic’s descriptions of its access and safeguards.
Rank #3
Restricted access and safeguards matter because a powerful vulnerability-finding model can support both patching and exploitation. They are relevant to judging potential exposure, but they do not by themselves quantify actual incident rates or establish the basis for Dimon’s multiplier.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What evidence would establish whether cyber risk rose tenfold?
A defensible comparison would first define the risk being measured and establish a baseline and time period. It would then need comparable evidence—for example, verified changes in exploitable vulnerabilities, successful intrusions, or expected losses—rather than treating those different outcomes as interchangeable. The cited report of Dimon’s remarks and Anthropic’s program updates do not provide that kind of measurement.
Rank #4
The most accurate reading is narrower: Dimon reportedly warned that Mythos and AI had sharply increased cyber concerns; Anthropic says Mythos can find and exploit software flaws and reports substantial defensive vulnerability discoveries under Glasswing. Whether those developments produced a tenfold increase in real-world cyber risk remains unquantified by the available sources.
