Did Michael Saylor Hint Strategy Is Buying Bitcoin Again? What Its October 5 Filing Shows

Yes—Michael Saylor’s “More orange than ever” post hinted at renewed Bitcoin activity, but the post did not confirm a trade or disclose its size. Strategy’s October 5, 2026 Form 8-K provides the transaction details: no Bitcoin purchases from September 28–30, followed by 334 BTC acquired from October 1–4 for $28.7 million. The same filing reports STRC repurchases in both periods.

What Saylor’s post did—and did not—confirm

The Block reported that Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted “More orange than ever” alongside the company’s Bitcoin acquisition tracker on the Sunday before the October 5 filing. The post was a signal, not a transaction record: it did not establish how much Bitcoin Strategy had bought or whether a purchase had been completed. Strategy’s subsequent Form 8-K is the primary source for the disclosed trades. The Block’s report on Saylor’s post provides that context; the October 5 SEC filing provides the quantities and dates.

What Strategy bought back and acquired

The filing separates the final three days of September from October 1–4. That distinction matters: the September 28–30 activity was a preferred-stock repurchase, not a Bitcoin purchase. The 334 BTC purchase came in the following reporting period.

Period Bitcoin acquired STRC repurchased Reported funding detail
September 28–30, 2026 None 1,033,168 shares for $102.6 million $80.4 million from USD Cash and $22.2 million from interest earned on cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments
October 1–4, 2026 334 BTC for $28.7 million; average $85,838.80 per BTC, including fees and expenses 740,634 shares for $73.7 million The filing says the purchases in this period used USD Cash; it reports $13.0 million of USD Cash used for Bitcoin and $154.1 million for STRC repurchases

These are company-reported historical transactions, not a prediction of the next purchase. Strategy’s Form 8-K also reports 848,000 BTC held as of October 4, with an aggregate purchase price of $63.97 billion and an average purchase price of $75,440.70 per BTC.

What STRC is

STRC is Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, as identified in the filing. It is a preferred security, not a bond or a guaranteed deposit product. A repurchase means the company bought back shares of this preferred stock; it is separate from buying Bitcoin and does not itself indicate a change to the company’s Bitcoin holdings.

Where the buyback money came from

Strategy distinguishes between two pools of dollars. In its October 5 filing, the company describes the USD Reserve as “intended to support the payment of dividends on Strategy’s preferred stock and interest on its outstanding indebtedness.” It says USD Cash is maintained for “broader general Bitcoin Treasury Company purposes,” which can include Bitcoin purchases, adding to the reserve, and capital management.

  • For October 1–4, the filing reports $154.1 million of USD Cash used for STRC repurchases and $13.0 million for Bitcoin purchases.
  • From September 28 through October 4, Strategy reported using $142.5 million of the USD Reserve for preferred dividends and debt interest.
  • As of October 4, the filing reported a $4.88 billion USD Reserve and $833.4 million in USD Cash. It reported $547.2 million of preferred-stock repurchase capacity remaining at that date. The $1.0 billion MSTR common-stock repurchase authorization remained unused.

The company’s June 29, 2026 capital allocation framework announcement described a board-approved reserve policy and programs covering preferred-security repurchases, common-stock repurchases, and Bitcoin monetization. Those policies and authorizations explain the capital-allocation framework; they do not guarantee that Strategy will make future purchases or repurchases.

How this fits the preceding September activity

The October 5 filing is not the whole month’s buying history. Earlier disclosures show Bitcoin purchases and STRC repurchases in the preceding weeks, but their funding and dates differ from the September 28–October 4 figures.

What the filing can tell investors

The disclosure establishes what Strategy reported doing through October 4, 2026; it does not establish what the company will buy next or what future transactions will mean for the price of its securities. Strategy’s June framework release warns that results can vary with Bitcoin prices and volatility, trading prices and liquidity of its securities, credit spreads and interest rates, capital-market and liquidity conditions, funds available for dividends, and legal restrictions on repurchases or Bitcoin monetization. The company also cautions that STRC may not trade within its targeted range or at any particular price.
