There is no verified evidence that Kalshi’s 15-minute gold markets overtook Ether. The available August 2026 report compares gold with Bitcoin, not Ether, and says gold’s daily volume high was just under $8 million while 15-minute Bitcoin volume was rarely below $100 million. The report documents a rapid start for gold, silver and oil markets—but does not provide a like-for-like gold-versus-Ether dataset.
What the reported figures show
Kalshi introduced 15-minute up-or-down markets on gold, silver and oil around the end of July 2026, according to Gaming America’s August 18 report. The publication described the markets as among Kalshi’s most popular outside sports and crypto.

Its figures cover all three commodities together from July 31 through August 14—not gold alone:

Gaming America also reported that each commodity exceeded $1 million in volume every weekday from August 5 through its reporting period, and that more than 550,000 trades took place across the 15-minute commodity markets on August 14. These are reported market figures, not an audited comparison with Ether.

Why the Ether comparison is unproven
The report’s crypto benchmark is Bitcoin. It says Kalshi’s 15-minute Bitcoin markets rarely recorded less than $100 million in daily volume, while the gold market’s highest daily volume through August 14 was just under $8 million. Those figures suggest gold was still much smaller than Bitcoin in the comparison period; they say nothing conclusive about Ether.
A sound claim that gold surpassed Ether would need matched figures for the same dates, 15-minute contract interval, activity measure and aggregation method. For example, daily traded volume in one gold market cannot be fairly compared with cumulative volume across several Ether markets, or with trade count or open interest. The material available here does not provide that pairwise series or define a measurement window for an Ether comparison.

What “volume” can—and cannot—tell you
Short settlement windows may let participants trade repeatedly as successive contracts open. Gaming America suggested that repeat trading and bots could help explain activity, while noting it had not found traders willing to discuss their activity at length. That is reporting and interpretation, not audited participant data or proof of what drove the volume.

Kalshi’s own September 8 post says its commodities category reached more than $400 million in trading volume after seven months and exceeded crypto markets at the same point in their lifecycles. That is a company-reported, broad category comparison—not a gold-versus-Ether result for 15-minute markets.

How Kalshi describes its commodity contracts
Kalshi’s April 15 announcement framed its commodities expansion as access beyond traditional futures and listed gold and silver among its markets. These are event contracts with binary outcomes; the company’s description of product access is not independent evidence that a contract functions as an effective hedge.
For users checking activity on the platform, Kalshi Pro’s 15-minute markets guide, updated September 28, describes live charts, the order book, market indexes and comparison views. Those interface features can help inspect markets, but they do not resolve the missing historical Ether comparison.

What would settle the claim
A defensible ranking needs a published dataset that matches gold and Ether on every relevant axis:

- 15-minute contracts only for both assets;
- the same activity measure, such as traded notional volume, rather than mixing volume, trade count and open interest;
- the same aggregation basis—per market, per day or cumulative; and
- a named data source and a clear account of whether the figures are independently audited.
Until those matched figures are available, “gold overtook Ether” should be treated as unverified, not as an established result.
