No. Google had not confirmed that the September 2026 spam update was in its final phase or complete on October 6. Its Search Status Dashboard still listed the update as active in the October 6 view. The October 4–6 “final phase” description was an industry reporter’s interpretation of ranking volatility, not an official Google milestone.
What Google officially said about the rollout
Google’s Search Status Dashboard recorded the September 2026 spam update as starting on September 24, 2026, at 09:15 US/Pacific. Google said it applies globally and to all languages, and that rollout may take up to two weeks. That was an estimate of the rollout period—not a promise that it would finish by October 6. What the October 6 status showed
The dashboard’s October 6 view still showed the incident as active, with September 24 listed as its last update. The retrieved ranking history also records the September 24 start but does not provide a completed duration for this update. Neither record confirms a finish date. Why October 4–6 was called a final phase
Search Engine Roundtable reported ranking volatility from October 4 through October 6. Its author, Barry Schwartz, wrote that he believed this was the final phase and that the update “should be done any day now.” That was his assessment of observed movement, not a statement from Google. How to verify whether the update is finished
- Check the Google Search Status Dashboard for the September 2026 spam update incident.
- Look for an explicit status change or completion notice. An announced estimate of “up to two weeks” is not itself confirmation of completion.
- Use third-party volatility reports as observations of search movement, not as proof of Google’s rollout status.
