It does not say Naruto is formally stripped of the Hokage title. The headline’s “shuts down” describes his absence from events, not an established change of office.
What happens to Naruto in Chapter 77?
In its recap of the story spanning manga Volumes 16–20, the NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE identifies the relevant chapter as Chapter 77, “Time Drawing Near.” Kawaki intends to eliminate the Otsutsuki, including Boruto, who carries Momoshiki within him. Naruto and Hinata oppose Kawaki’s plan to kill their son.

The recap says, “Kawaki seals them in an alternate dimension before they can interfere.” Kawaki then confronts Boruto; during their fight, Boruto loses his right eye. Kawaki flees as Leaf ninja pursue him.

Does this mean Naruto is no longer the Seventh Hokage?
Not on the evidence in that recap. It establishes that Naruto is physically removed from the immediate events in Konoha, but it does not describe a formal removal from office or name a replacement. Shueisha’s official series description identifies Naruto as the Seventh Hokage governing the Hidden Leaf at the series’ premise; that framing does not itself establish what happens to his position later in the story.

So “Naruto is sealed away” is supported for this plot point; “Naruto has officially lost the Hokage title” is not established by the cited Chapter 77 account. The distinction matters: being unable to act in the village during this conflict is not the same thing as a confirmed change in leadership.

A separate NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE character recap describes Kawaki as Naruto’s ward and recounts a later point when Naruto’s condition is unknown in that account. Kawaki senses the Hokage’s chakra through his prosthetic arm and uses space-time ninjutsu with Boruto’s help. This is a distinct plot account, not another description of the Chapter 77 sealing scene.
