Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection on Switch 2 Review

Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection is a generous, replayable action RPG package on Nintendo Switch 2, but its always-online requirement puts a real limit on portable play. Nintendo Life’s Mitch Vogel gave the North American version a Great 8/10 on September 25, 2026, praising its loot, progression and bundled expansions while noting occasional performance hiccups and an open world that feels underused. That is Nintendo Life’s review, not an independent hands-on assessment.

What’s included in the Age of Hatred Collection?

The collection bundles the Diablo IV base game with both expansions, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. Nintendo describes it as the complete Age of Hatred story across multiple campaigns, making this a substantial entry point for someone who has not played Diablo IV.

Blizzard positions the collection as best for new players. If you already own the base game or either expansion, check your entitlements before buying: the collection includes the base game, and Blizzard says both expansions require it. Buying a bundle that repeats content you own may not be the best value.

Nintendo’s US announcement listed a regular price of $69.99 when the collection became available on September 16, 2026. That is the announced US price, not a guarantee of current retailer pricing. Nintendo UK lists a September 15 release and a 69.4 GB download; those are UK listing details and may vary by region.

Diablo IV | Age of Hatred Collection | Nintendo Switch 2 [Code in a Box]
  • COMPLETE DIABLO IV COLLECTION – Includes the Diablo IV base game plus the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions in one action RPG bundle for Nintendo Switch 2.
  • SWEEPING DARK FANTASY CAMPAIGN – Unlikely heroes arise, ancient foes stir, and no soul is safe as Mephisto, the Prime Evil of Hatred, spreads his corruption across Sanctuary.
  • 8 PLAYABLE CLASSES – Master eight distinct Diablo IV classes, including the all-new Paladin and Warlock, and build the hero you want to play.
  • EXPLORE NAHANTU – Take up the Spiritborn class and become the apex predator of the jungles of Nahantu in the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
  • JOURNEY TO THE ISLES OF SKOVOS – Adventure to the never-before-seen region of Skovos in the Lord of Hatred expansion.

How does Diablo 4 play on Switch 2?

The core appeal is the familiar action-RPG loop: fight through groups of enemies, collect loot, improve your character and experiment with different classes and builds. Vogel praised that progression loop and the amount of content across the base game and expansions, describing the result as enjoyable and addictive. The collection’s breadth gives players plenty to work through and replay.

Vogel also found the open world underused, a caveat for anyone expecting exploration to be as compelling as combat and character progression. His review notes occasional performance hiccups, so the Switch 2 version is not presented as flawless even though he rated it positively overall.

Which graphics mode should you choose?

Blizzard lists two display modes. Quality prioritizes resolution at a 30 fps target; Performance lowers the resolution target to 1080p and targets 40 fps. In docked Performance mode, Blizzard says a compatible display capable of 120 Hz or higher is required.

Mode Handheld target Docked target Trade-off
Quality 30 fps at 1080p 30 fps at 1440p Higher docked resolution; Nintendo Life’s reviewer found this mode less consistent at holding its target in his testing.
Performance 40 fps at 1080p 40 fps at 1080p; compatible 120 Hz-or-higher display required Lower resolution target. Vogel preferred this mode, but observed that enemy animations could look simplified when many enemies filled the screen.

These are Blizzard’s listed targets, not a guarantee that every scene or session will hold the stated frame rate. The consistency and animation observations are Vogel’s review findings, not a blanket claim about every patch or play session. For a more responsive feel, Performance is the reviewer’s preferred option; Quality offers a higher docked resolution target.

Can you play Diablo 4 offline on Switch 2?

No. Nintendo UK’s listing says persistent internet access and a Battle.net account are required. Nintendo Life reports that losing the connection sends players back to the home screen. Handheld mode is supported, but playing away from dependable Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity can interrupt a session. As Vogel put it, “Those with spotty connections will want to keep this in mind, as the internet requirement does limit the contexts in which you can play it on a portable console.”

What Switch 2 features and player options are listed?

Nintendo UK lists handheld, tabletop and TV modes, with one-to-two players on a single system and online play for up to four. The product is listed as a digital download. That listing does not establish whether every third-party retail offer is a cartridge or physical game card, so check the exact format before purchasing from a retailer.

Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ also distinguishes the game’s online requirements from Nintendo Switch Online: the FAQ says Nintendo Switch Online is not required for the game’s online play. The Battle.net account and persistent internet requirement still apply.

Is Diablo IV worth it on Switch 2?

For a newcomer who wants the base game and both expansions in one portable-capable package, Nintendo Life’s positive review points to a lot of loot-driven progression and replayability. Its Great 8/10 verdict belongs to Vogel’s North American-version review, published September 25, 2026.

The main buying decision is whether your intended use fits the online requirement. If you want to play on commutes or in places with unreliable service, being sent back to the home screen after a disconnection undermines the convenience of a handheld system. Existing Diablo IV owners should also compare the collection’s inclusions with the entitlements on their account before paying for duplicate content.
