Diablo 4’s 3.2.3 update (Build #73883) for all platforms, released October 14, 2026, stops a progression bug that could prevent a character from finishing the Season 15 questline and unlocking Prime Evil Powers. The fix protects new characters, but it does not repair characters whose quest progress was already blocked.
What caused the Season 15 questline blocker?
The problem involved a Splinter of a Prime Evil, a seasonal item tied to the Prime Evil Powers system. If a character obtained or used a Splinter before completing the Seasonal questline, the game could treat the progression out of order. Blizzard says that early use “prevented that character from being able to complete the questline and access Prime Evil Powers.”

Build 3.2.3 prevents that sequence from occurring on new characters. It is an all-platform change, so the protection applies regardless of whether you play on PC or console.

Does patch 3.2.3 repair a character that is already stuck?
No. The update does not roll back or rebuild an affected character’s quest state. Blizzard’s developer note is explicit: “This change prevents this bug from happening but does not reset quest progress on characters who are already bugged.”
#1 Best Overall
- Pre-order and receive:
- Light Bearer Mount in Diablo IV
- Only one code per customer
- Diablo IV is the next-gen action RPG experience with endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish Dungeons, and legendary loot.
- Embark on the campaign solo or with friends, meeting memorable characters through beautifully dark settings and a gripping story, or explore an expansive end game and shared world where players can meet in towns to trade, team up to battle World Bosses, or descend into PVP zones to test their skills against other players - no lobbies necessary - with cross-play and cross-progression on all available platforms.
That distinction matters if your character used a Splinter too early before October 14. Installing the patch alone will not make the Seasonal questline suddenly completable on that character.
How to unlock Prime Evil Powers on an affected account
Blizzard’s workaround is a partition-wide unlock rather than a restoration of the original character.
- Create a new character in the same partition. The partition must match the affected character: Normal or Hardcore, and Normal or SSF (solo self-found).
- Play the new character through the complete Season 15 questline. The seasonal campaign must be finished on that new character.
- Return to your other characters in that partition. Completing the questline unlocks Prime Evil Powers for all characters in the matching partition, including the character whose original quest state remains bugged.
For example, if the blocked character is Normal SSF, create another Normal SSF character and complete the seasonal questline there. A character in a different partition does not satisfy Blizzard’s stated workaround.

How the two Season 15 progression fixes differ
| Update | Trigger | Result | Player remedy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.2.2 Build #73764, September 29/30, 2026 | Entering the Worldstone Chamber portal too quickly | The Seasonal questline could fail to complete | The timing-related issue was fixed in that update; avoid the rapid portal-entry sequence on versions before the fix. |
| 3.2.3 Build #73883, October 14, 2026 | Using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before finishing the Seasonal questline | The character could be unable to complete the questline or access Prime Evil Powers | New characters are protected. Characters already affected must complete the questline on a new character in the same partition. |
These are separate failure modes. The earlier patch addressed the Worldstone Chamber timing problem; the October 14 patch addresses premature Splinter use.

The same update corrected Horadric Cube reroll failures for four affixes:
- Impairment Reduction
- Barrier Generation
- +Healing
- Critical Strike Damage
Blizzard’s complete 3.2.3 notes also list fixes across encounters, loot, class quests, the user interface, stability and performance. Those changes are separate from the Season 15 questline workaround.

Do Splinters of a Prime Evil stack now?
No. The October 14 update did not add Splinter stacking. Players continue to request that capability, but the current patch leaves it unchanged. The questline fix therefore should not be interpreted as a change to Splinter inventory behavior.

What players should do before starting or continuing Season 15
- Install Build 3.2.3 before progressing a new seasonal character.
- Finish the Seasonal questline before using any Splinter of a Prime Evil.
- If a character is already blocked, stop trying to force its original quest state; use a new character in the identical Normal/Hardcore and Normal/SSF partition.
- Do not expect Splinters to combine into stacks after updating.
The practical outcome is straightforward: the exploit path is closed for new characters, while existing affected characters retain their original blocked quest state but can gain Prime Evil Powers through the same-partition completion method.
