You can’t connect a Samsung Galaxy Watch directly to a Dexcom G7 sensor using Dexcom’s Direct to Watch feature: Dexcom currently supports that feature only on Apple Watch. A Galaxy Watch may be able to show readings in standard smartwatch mode, which copies data from the phone rather than receiving it from the sensor. In that mode, the phone must stay within 20 feet.
How Dexcom readings reach a smartwatch
There are two different connection paths. With Direct to Watch, the sensor sends readings to a supported watch. In standard smartwatch mode, the watch displays readings copied from the phone; the sensor does not communicate directly with the watch. Dexcom explains the distinction in its G7 smartwatch FAQ.

| Mode | Connection path | Phone nearby? | Dexcom’s stated watch support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct to Watch | Sensor to watch | No phone-to-watch relay is used for readings | Apple Watch only for G7 and G7 15 Day, according to Dexcom’s current FAQ |
| Standard smartwatch mode | Sensor to phone, then phone to watch | Yes. Dexcom says the phone must be within 20 feet | Compatibility depends on the phone and watch; Dexcom directs Android users to the watch manufacturer |
What this means for a Samsung Galaxy Watch
Dexcom’s published G7 compatibility guidance does not provide a Direct to Watch setup path for Samsung Galaxy Watch. The standard phone-mediated mode is the only Samsung-adjacent possibility described in the guidance, but the available information does not establish that a particular Galaxy Watch, Android phone, region, and software combination is compatible. Check the watch manufacturer’s compatibility information for your exact devices, and confirm setup questions with Dexcom.
Do not treat a third-party watch face, app, or unofficial bridge as proof of an approved or supported Dexcom connection. Dexcom’s official FAQ states: “Currently, the Dexcom G7 Direct to Watch feature is only compatible with Apple Watch.” The statement covers the G7 and G7 15 Day systems; it should not be generalized to every Dexcom product.

If you have a supported Apple Watch
Dexcom lists these requirements for G7 Direct to Watch: Apple Watch Series 6 or later with watchOS 10 or later, an iPhone running iOS 17, and G7 app version 2.2.1 or later. These are Dexcom’s stated requirements, not requirements for a Samsung setup. See the current Direct to Watch requirements.
- Open the G7 app on the iPhone and go to Connections > Direct to Watch.
- Follow the on-screen setup and accept the pairing request on the watch.
- If you are starting a replacement sensor, begin the process on the phone. Dexcom says a sensor can be paired with one smartwatch at a time.

Phone proximity and the standard-mode indicator
When the watch is displaying readings in standard smartwatch mode, keep the phone within 20 feet for G7 readings to reach it. Dexcom says a gray phone icon on the watch indicates standard mode. If the phone is out of range, the phone-to-watch relay is unavailable.

Use the meter when readings do not match how you feel
Dexcom advises using a blood glucose meter to make treatment decisions if CGM readings do not match symptoms or expectations. A watch display is a convenient way to view information, but do not rely on an unverified connection or workaround for medical decisions. For device-specific problems, contact Dexcom or the watch manufacturer.
