Does the DCM561PB include a battery and charger?
For the DeWalt Denmark DCM561PB-QW listing, the answer is no. It is sold as a bare tool, with the battery and charger purchased separately. The Irish DCM561PBS-XJ page gives the same practical warning: batteries and charger are sold separately.

Before ordering, read the retailer’s “box contents” line rather than relying on “DCM561PB” alone. A kit and a bare-tool package can share the core DCM561 model name while having different suffixes and prices. If you do not already own an 18V XR battery and compatible charger, add their cost to the trimmer’s price; otherwise the tool cannot be used on arrival.

DeWalt’s figures are specifications, not a guarantee of how quickly the head will cut a particular patch of grass. Battery capacity, vegetation, line condition and speed selection all affect the result in actual work.
Cutting width and line: the details that vary by region
330 mm versus 32 cm
DeWalt’s manual and Denmark product page state a 330 mm cutting swath. That is 33 cm when rounded. CHOICE’s public listing for the DCM561PB shows a 32 cm cutting diameter instead. The one-centimetre difference may reflect a measurement or configuration difference, so quote the figure from the package and manual for the regional model you are buying rather than assuming every DCM561-branded listing is identical.
2 mm line and replacement choices
The Denmark page specifies 2 mm line, and the Irish page describes a bump-feed system with 2 mm twisted line. The Irish page also links to DeWalt’s DT20652-QZ line, described there as 2.5 mm by 68.6 m. Because those published diameters differ, do not assume that 2.5 mm line is approved for every DCM561PB or DCM561PBS package. Match the diameter and line style in your exact regional instructions before purchasing a replacement spool or bulk line.

Line diameter is not a cosmetic detail: using a size outside the specified range can affect feed operation, cutting load and the warranty position. Keep the model suffix, manual and accessory code together when checking compatibility.
Motor, trigger and speed settings
The DCM561 uses a variable-speed trigger and a high/low selector. DeWalt lists no-load ranges of 0–4,600 rpm and 0–6,000 rpm, allowing the operator to choose between the slower setting and the faster setting. The Denmark page presents the two-speed arrangement as a choice between more runtime and more performance; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured runtime comparison.
The manual states 400 W output, while the Denmark marketing page calls the brushless motor “400 MWO.” Those labels should not be treated as two separate laboratory power tests. They are the figures DeWalt publishes for this model, and the available material does not provide an independent dynamometer result.

A variable trigger is useful for matching speed to the job, but the specifications alone cannot tell you how the trimmer behaves in long, wet or dense grass. No publicly accessible independent test result establishes its cutting rate, stall resistance or edge quality under those conditions.

Weight, noise and vibration
The instruction manual gives 3.64 kg without a battery; DeWalt Denmark rounds that to 3.6 kg. Your working weight will be higher once an 18V XR pack is fitted, and the balance you feel depends on the capacity and physical size of that pack. Compare the bare-tool figure only with other bare-tool figures, and consider your own battery when judging fatigue.
The manual reports 76 dB(A) emission sound pressure and 90 dB(A) sound power. These are different standardized measurements, so the 90 dB(A) number should not be read as the sound level at your ear. Wear suitable hearing protection and follow local outdoor-equipment rules regardless of the printed rating.
Vibration emission is listed as below 2.5 m/s² under EN50636-2-91:2014. DeWalt explains that the value is measured using a standardized method for comparing tools and that actual vibration may differ with the application, accessories and maintenance. It is therefore not a promise that every user will experience the same vibration during trimming.
Battery life, charging and the unanswered runtime question
There is no reliable, publicly accessible minutes-per-charge result for the DCM561PB in the reviewed material. Do not plan a lawn size around a claimed runtime, and do not treat a battery’s amp-hour label as a guaranteed number of minutes. Cutting density, line length, trigger setting, speed range, temperature and battery condition all change energy use.

The manual includes the 18V 5.0 Ah DCB184 battery in its battery information and gives an approximately 90-minute charging time for a 5.0 Ah pack when used with the specified DCB105 or DCB115 charger. That is the time to charge the battery, not the operating time of the trimmer. CHOICE’s page displays a 75-minute charge-time field, but it does not expose the test configuration behind that figure. Use the charger and battery guidance supplied with your exact package.
For a bare-tool buyer, the practical calculation is total system cost: trimmer, one compatible 18V XR battery, charger and any replacement line. A second battery can reduce waiting between jobs, but the available sources do not establish how many minutes either pack will deliver in your grass.
What independent coverage actually confirms
CHOICE lists the DeWalt DCM561PB as a cordless medium-yard line trimmer. Its public page displays an Australian-page price of $513.00, a 32 cm cutting diameter, 2 mm line, 3.9 kg weight and a 75-minute charge-time field. The page also displays trimmer, deflector, battery, charger and manual in its listed items while simultaneously stating that battery and charger are bought separately. That internal conflict means you should not use the CHOICE contents line to identify the package you will receive.
CHOICE places its expert rating, performance, ease-of-use, battery-life-under-load, noise and year-tested fields behind membership. The public page names Adrian Lini and James Thomson as testers, but the accessible information does not attribute this particular test to either person. No independent numeric score or verified runtime is available from the visible page, so a star rating, minutes-per-charge claim or “best for” conclusion would be speculation.

Is the DCM561PB a good buy?
Reasons it can make sense
- You already own 18V XR batteries. A bare tool avoids buying another battery system, provided your existing packs and charger are compatible with the exact regional model.
- You want a mid-size swath. The stated 330 mm class covers more ground per pass than a small edging trimmer while remaining narrower than many full-size petrol machines.
- You prefer adjustable control. The high/low selector and variable trigger give you more control than a single fixed-speed switch, although the practical runtime benefit has not been independently measured.
- You want a brushless platform tool. Brushless is the motor design DeWalt specifies for the DCM561 line; it does not by itself predict runtime or cutting performance.
Reasons to be cautious
- The headline price can be misleading. A bare-tool price excludes the battery and charger, which can materially change the cost for a new user.
- Regional specifications are not perfectly uniform. Cutting width, line diameter and package contents differ between published pages and listings.
- Runtime is unverified. There is no trustworthy public test result that tells you how long a chosen battery will last in your conditions.
- Independent scoring is inaccessible. CHOICE’s public page does not reveal the performance or battery-life results needed for a benchmark-style verdict.
How to check a listing before you buy
- Read the complete model suffix. Confirm whether the listing is DCM561PB-QW, DCM561PBS-XJ or another regional code, then open the matching DeWalt page or manual.
- Confirm box contents. Look for an explicit battery model and charger model. “Tool only” means you must supply both separately.
- Confirm line requirements. Check whether your model specifies 2 mm line and whether it calls for a particular twisted-line style. Do not substitute the 2.5 mm DT20652-QZ line without confirmation for your variant.
- Check the cutting-width statement. Record whether the seller quotes 330 mm/33 cm or 32 cm and retain that page with your order details.
- Price the complete setup. Add a compatible 18V XR battery, charger and replacement line if you do not already have them.
- Decide how you will judge runtime. Since no verified figure is available, buy from a seller with a clear return policy and use your first job to establish your own battery pattern rather than relying on an unqualified online claim.
Using the published specifications to choose a battery
The DCM561 is specified for DeWalt’s 18V XR packs, and the manual’s battery table includes the 5.0 Ah DCB184. A larger-capacity pack generally stores more energy than a smaller one, but the sources supplied for this model do not quantify runtime differences or state a maximum pack size. Choose only batteries listed as compatible for your regional tool and charger, and account for the added mass when considering balance.
Charging time also depends on the charger. The manual’s approximately 90-minute figure applies to a 5.0 Ah pack with the specified DCB105/DCB115 chargers; it should not be generalized to every XR charger or capacity. The CHOICE page’s 75-minute field is a separate, page-specific value with no publicly visible test details.
What the DCM561 specifications cannot tell you

- How quickly it cuts long, wet or heavily overgrown grass.
- Whether the head stalls, overheats or feeds line consistently under sustained load.
- Operator comfort and balance with each battery size.
- An independent noise, ease-of-use or performance score.
Those are the tests to look for if you are comparing the DCM561 with another cordless trimmer. A fair comparison uses the same battery capacity, line diameter and vegetation conditions; comparing a bare tool with a kit or a laboratory charge time with operating runtime produces a misleading result.
Safety and maintenance decisions
Use the instructions supplied with your regional model for guard installation, line loading, battery fitting and maintenance. The manual’s vibration note is a reminder that accessories and maintenance affect measured exposure. Keep the cutting head, guard and line in the condition specified by DeWalt, and stop using the tool if a component is damaged rather than improvising a different line size or accessory.
Because the product uses a bump-feed head, line advance is part of normal operation. The correct replacement diameter and style are therefore more important than simply buying the longest or thickest line available. Keep a spare spool or approved bulk line on hand, but verify the model code before ordering.
Bottom-line buying advice
Buy the DCM561PB when you value a 330 mm-class brushless trimmer, adjustable speed and compatibility with batteries you already own.
