Deus X Capital says it will close by January 31, 2027, as investors move its assets and portfolio companies into two more focused vehicles: Darius Cubed Ventures, centered on AI, and 95, focused on markets and fintech. The company says portfolio businesses will continue without disruption, but has not detailed how each asset will be transferred.

When will Deus X Capital close?

Deus X Capital says it will close by January 31, 2027. “After a tremendous run, Deus X Capital will be closing down by 31st January 2027,” CEO Tim Grant said in the company’s official statement. CoinDesk reported that the firm had ceased operations and would formally unwind on that date.

The announcement describes a planned closure and restructuring, not a shutdown of every company in Deus X’s portfolio. The legal form of the wind-down and the timing and mechanics of individual asset transfers have not been specified.

What happens to the portfolio companies?

Deus X says assets and portfolio companies will be returned to investors as those investors shift activity into Darius Cubed Ventures and 95. The company says its portfolio businesses will continue without disruption and that investors will support their continued growth. That is Deus X’s forward-looking assurance; the available reporting does not independently confirm the future operating status of each business.

The company has not published a complete list of portfolio-company transfers or explained how each asset will be allocated. As a result, the announcement establishes the broad direction of the restructuring, but not what will happen to every individual investment.

How the new investment vehicles differ

Vehicle Stated focus People and related roles
Darius Cubed Ventures AI Shane Morton is establishing the venture, according to CoinDesk. Tim Grant says he has been appointed CEO of TensorX, an AI-focused venture in its portfolio.
95 Markets and fintech Owen and Jason Morton are setting up the vehicle, according to CoinDesk. Deus X CIO Stuart Connolly will structure and manage its portfolio, the company says.

Grant also says he will become chairman of TradeLocker, a Deus X portfolio company. Connolly is expected to remain at Deus X until the business is fully transitioned; the company says he will also take on the portfolio role at 95.

What was Deus X Capital, and what figures did it report?

CoinDesk reported that Deus X debuted in October 2023 with $1 billion in existing investments and capital available for deployment. The firm’s activity included private equity, venture capital and hedge fund allocations across digital assets, blockchain, fintech and institutional capital markets.

Deus X said it generated annualized returns of 36.5% since inception, according to CoinDesk, but declined to disclose total capital. The return figure is the firm’s reported figure; the available reporting does not establish independent audit or verification.

One example of its institutional digital-asset activity was Cor Prime. In a 2024 announcement, Deus X said Cor Prime planned to offer institutional principal and prime lending in digital assets, subject to regulatory approval, with up to $100 million of risk capital committed. The announcement described a planned commercial launch in 2025; it does not establish Cor Prime’s current operating or regulatory status.

Why is Deus X Capital shutting down?

The company frames the move as investors pursuing separate strategies through more focused vehicles, rather than as the end of all activity associated with its investments. Grant told CoinDesk, referring to the AI direction of his next venture: “We want to be a prominent player in AI in Europe.” The company’s announcement does not give a more detailed reason for closing Deus X Capital or explain the decision-making behind each investor’s strategy.
