Its manufacturer pages and independent listings support it as a convenience machine for people who already use Original capsules and want milk drinks without manual frothing. They do not, however, show how well it brews, because the independent test scores that would answer that question are not publicly visible. This article covers what is verifiable: the market-specific model details, the capsule format, the drink menu, the milk-system upkeep, and what the independent sources do and do not reveal.
Which version you are looking at
The machine is sold under two regional model codes. De’Longhi’s UK site lists it as the Gran Latissima Nespresso coffee machine in black, model EN640.B. De’Longhi’s US site lists it as the Nespresso Gran Lattissima in black, model EN640B. The two pages are not a single global specification sheet, and several figures differ. The table below separates them. Milk and water capacities match once converted between litres and US fluid ounces, but capsule capacity, voltage, warm-up time and listed weight do not.

Treat the heat-up figures as manufacturer values for each region, not measured results. Prices and stock labels change without notice, so check the current price before buying.
Capsules: Nespresso Original only
This is an Original-system machine. De’Longhi’s UK page identifies Nespresso Original pods and says the range offers more than 30 blends. CHOICE also classifies the EN640.B as a Nespresso Original capsule machine. It does not accept Vertuo pods, so buy Original capsules only. The UK manufacturer page says seven Nespresso pods are included in that regional package. Packaging varies by market, so check the box contents on your own listing.

Drinks and controls
The touch panel has no display. The manufacturer’s pages list three espresso-style selections and several milk drinks:
- Coffee: Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo
- Milk drinks: Caffè Latte, Cappuccino, Flat White, Latte Macchiato
- Milk-only: hot milk and milk foam
The US page advertises nine one-touch recipes, and the list above contains nine named options. The UK page’s descriptive copy refers to six recipes in one passage while its bullet list refers to nine, so the manufacturer’s count is not consistent across its own pages. Check the recipe count against the instructions for your region before relying on it.
De’Longhi also lists a 19-bar pump and automatic milk-foam settings. These are manufacturer specifications. They describe the hardware, not how the coffee tastes or how close it comes to a café shot.

Milk system and cleaning
The convenience of one-touch milk drinks depends on a milk container that has to be cleaned. The manufacturer documentation covers this in three places, and they should be read together.
Automatic milk-carafe cleaning
The UK page states that the milk jug has an automatic cleaning system. The US feature list also includes an automatic clean system. Neither page states how long the cycle takes or how often it should run. Use the instructions for use for the cycle steps.
Dishwasher-safe parts and storage
The UK listing says the milk-carafe components are dishwasher-safe and that the detachable milk container can be stored in the refrigerator between uses. Check whether the same applies to your regional model before assuming it does.

Cleaning and descaling alerts
The US product page lists a cleaning and descaling alarm. The manual for your market sets out the descaling procedure, any required solution and the expected interval. The manufacturer’s EN640.B support centre links to the instructions for use and product fiche for each model. This article does not name a compatible descaler because the manufacturer documentation reviewed here does not specify one.
What independent sources show and do not show
Two independent listings were reviewed. Neither gives a usable performance score for this model.
CHOICE (Australia)
CHOICE lists the EN640.B at AUD 599. It records a two-year warranty, Italian country of origin and thermoblock heating. Its expert rating, taste test, ease-of-use score, milk-frothing score, coffee-temperature consistency and measured heat-up results are available only to members. The listing does not show those results, so no conclusion about brewing or frothing can be drawn from it.

Consumer NZ (New Zealand)
Consumer NZ’s EN640 page was updated in June 2026 and lists the model at NZD 799. Its overall score and results for coffee making, ease of use, reliability and satisfaction are not visible in the retrieved page. It is neither a positive nor a negative verdict.
Who this machine suits
The evidence supports a narrower recommendation than a general verdict on quality.
- A good fit if you already buy Nespresso Original capsules, want milk drinks at the touch of a button, and accept regular cleaning of a milk carafe.
- A poor fit if you need Vertuo capsules, want a display and programmable settings, or want to avoid cleaning a milk container.
- Undetermined if your main question is coffee quality or frothing performance. The accessible sources do not answer that.
When comparing this machine with alternatives, use the same axes: capsule format, degree of automation, milk-system cleaning, drink menu, footprint and tank capacity, and regional price and warranty. The sources reviewed do not provide a model-to-model score comparison, so no ranking against a named rival is supported here.
The Bottom Line
The De’Longhi Nespresso Gran Lattissima EN640.B is a capsule machine for Original-system users who want one-touch milk drinks and can keep a milk carafe clean. Confirm the regional model code and specifications before buying, because the UK and US listings differ. Brewing quality and frothing performance cannot be judged from the sources available, so decide on fit and ownership costs rather than on a test score.
