That layout gives the appliance more flexibility than a grill that only closes. It also means the setup, plate choice and cooking method change with the position you select. The manufacturer describes the open position as suitable for meat and fish and says the whole surface is available. De’Longhi advertises capacity for up to six people; that is a manufacturer claim rather than a measured serving count.

The product information does not establish independent temperature accuracy, heat distribution, heat-up time or long-term plate durability.
How BBQ mode works
Opening the grill flat
In BBQ mode, the upper cooking section folds back so both plates sit open. Food is arranged across the two surfaces instead of being compressed between them. This is the position intended for pieces with different thicknesses or for cooking several items side by side.
De’Longhi’s instruction manual states: “The grill/barbecue position can be used to grill cuts of meat with different thicknesses, each with the preferred level of cooking.” The same manual says food needs to be turned during cooking in this position. Because the plates are open, the appliance does not cook both sides simultaneously as a closed contact grill would.
What the open surface is suited to
The product description names meat and fish as suitable foods for the open grill. Use the BBQ position when you need to see the food while it cooks, turn pieces individually or place items of different thicknesses on the surface. The manual’s wording supports that intended use; it does not provide independent evidence of browning quality, cooking speed or temperature uniformity.

What changes compared with contact mode
A closed contact grill applies the upper plate to the food. In the open position, you control turning yourself and can leave thinner and thicker pieces on the surface for different lengths of time. The open layout also uses the full plate area, while the contact position can be more compact for a single portion. The documentation does not state separate upper- and lower-plate temperature controls, so do not assume that each side can be set independently.
Plates: the CGH1112DP-specific setup
One grill plate and one griddle plate
The CGH1112DP does not come with two identical grill plates. Its configuration is one grill plate plus one griddle plate. That distinction is important when reading a general MultiGrill manual: instructions can cover several variants, while this model has its own plate combination.
Which plate goes on the bottom?
The manual’s cooking table identifies the plate required for each food or function. Its note for the CGH1112DP says that the plate named in the table should be fitted on the lower part and the other plate on the upper part. In practice, consult the table for the specific food before installing the plates; do not rely on a generic assumption that the ridged or smooth surface always belongs underneath.

- Fit the plate named there to the lower housing.
- Fit the other supplied plate to the upper housing.
- Confirm that both plates are seated before switching on the grill.
- Choose contact, open BBQ or oven-grill position as required.
The available evidence does not establish that the plates are interchangeable with every other MultiGrill variant. If you need a replacement, verify the exact CGH1112DP model number and the part description rather than ordering a visually similar plate.

Controls, probe and sear function
LED display and digital timer
The product page lists an LED display and digital timer. These features provide a way to set or monitor the cooking cycle, but the available specifications do not document every button sequence, timer range or alert behavior. Follow the model-specific manual for the exact control steps.
Integrated meat probe
The CGH1112DP includes an integrated meat probe. De’Longhi says the probe’s reading appears on the LED display, allowing you to monitor the food temperature while cooking. The documentation supplied for this review does not independently verify probe accuracy, response time or the range of temperatures it can display. Treat the displayed value as the appliance’s reading and follow the manual’s food-safety instructions for deciding when food is done.
Sear function
De’Longhi states that the plate can reach up to 265°C when the sear function is used. This is a manufacturer-published maximum claim, not a laboratory measurement independently confirmed here. “Up to” describes the stated ceiling under the manufacturer’s conditions; it does not mean every part of the plate will reach 265°C or that the appliance will hold that temperature throughout a cook.
The sear setting is therefore best understood as a high-heat option in the control system. Preheat and sear instructions, timing and compatible foods should come from the CGH1112DP manual rather than from the headline temperature alone.

The dimensions and electrical figures are not universal for every market or regional variant. Check the rating label, plug format and local product listing before purchase, especially if you are importing the appliance.
Using the grill in BBQ position
Before cooking
- Set the appliance on a stable, heat-resistant surface with enough clearance for the upper section to open fully.
- Install the grill and griddle plates according to the CGH1112DP cooking table.
- Make sure the removable grease collector is in place before adding food.
- Open the appliance flat and select the BBQ setting or temperature procedure specified by the manual.
- Allow the appliance to preheat according to the instructions rather than judging readiness from the advertised 265°C maximum.
During cooking
- Arrange food so it stays within the plate boundaries and does not obstruct the hinge or controls.

Because the evidence does not include an independent test, there is no defensible claim about how evenly the two open plates heat, how quickly they recover after food is added or how much smoke a particular food will produce. The product information identifies both the plates and grease collector as removable. Removing those parts is the basic route to cleaning residue after an open-grill session. Let the appliance cool and use the cleaning method specified in the CGH1112DP manual. The available documentation does not establish dishwasher compatibility, a coating warranty or a recommended detergent, so avoid assuming that any of those are included.

Open BBQ cooking can expose more of the plate surface to drips and splashes than closed contact cooking. Position the collector correctly, monitor the fill level during a long cook and clean residue before the next use in accordance with the manual. These are operating precautions, not independent test findings about the appliance’s grease capacity.

- the complete model identifier, including CGH1112DP;
- whether the part is a grill plate, griddle plate or probe;
- the electrical and regional market version of the appliance;
- the seller’s stated compatibility list;
- return terms if the listing does not explicitly name CGH1112DP.
A replacement that fits another MultiGrill model may not have the same surface or attachment geometry. Treat compatibility as something to verify, not infer from the MultiGrill name alone.

Its strongest documented differentiators are the flat-opening design, the mixed grill-and-griddle plate set, the integrated probe and the sear function with a stated temperature of up to 265°C.
It is less suitable if you specifically require two identical grill surfaces, independently verified temperature performance, independently measured serving capacity or published comparative test results. The documentation tells you how De’Longhi intends the appliance to work, including the need to turn food in BBQ mode; it does not prove how evenly, quickly or durably it performs in a kitchen. Make the purchase decision using the exact model, regional electrical rating, plate arrangement and the level of independent testing you require.
