Verdict: The DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001 is a 1.7-litre, boil-only electric kettle with a detachable 360-degree base, washable anti-scale filter and documented automatic safety cutoffs. It makes the most sense if you want a design-led everyday kettle and your mains supply is 220–240 V. It is a poor fit if you need selectable brewing temperatures, independently verified boil-speed or noise figures, or a model confirmed for a different voltage market. The available evidence establishes the kettle’s specifications and safety design, but not hands-on performance results by this writer.
What the DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001 is
The KBD2001 is DeLonghi’s Ballerina kettle family in a 1.7-litre format. The official product page identifies the black version as KBD2001.BK; the 2025 instruction manual also lists Laguna Green (KBD2001.GR) and White (KBD2001.W) variants. All three are described within the same KBD2001–KBD3001 manual family, so check the suffix printed on the retailer listing and appliance before assuming that a specification applies to your exact regional version.

This is a conventional boil-only kettle. You fill it, switch it on and let its control stop heating when the water boils. DeLonghi lists no temperature presets, display or keep-warm function. That keeps operation simple, but it rules out setting a lower temperature for green tea, coffee brewing or infant formula.

Its marketing copy says: “With 1.7l capacity, a detachable base for cordless use and a washable removable filter, this stylish kettle is a joy to use and a pleasure to admire.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment of appearance, handling or durability.

DeLonghi’s official specifications are available on the Ballerina Furnace Black KBD2001.BK product page and in the KBD2001–KBD3001 instruction manual.
Capacity and minimum fill: two figures you should not confuse
The product page describes the minimum fill as “just one cup,” while the manual calls the kettle’s full capacity six cups. Those are cup-based descriptions, and cup sizes differ by country. For a litre-based reference, the visible Australian CHOICE listing gives a 0.3-litre minimum and 1.7-litre maximum. Treat 0.3 L as the CHOICE specification for that listing, not as a universal measurement for every regional package.
Use the level markings on the actual kettle rather than estimating from a mug. Fill above the marked minimum so the heating control is covered, and never exceed the maximum line. Boiling more water than you need wastes time and electricity; boiling too little can activate the kettle outside the manufacturer’s intended operating range.

The lever is the sole user control identified by DeLonghi. The detachable swivel base carries the electrical connection, so the kettle itself can be lifted and poured without a trailing cord. The manual also lists cord storage in the base and non-slip feet. These are convenience features documented by the manufacturer, not results from a separate handling test.
The concealed flat element means there is no exposed metal coil inside the water chamber. It does not make hard-water deposits disappear: mineral scale can still accumulate on the vessel floor and filter, which is why the appliance includes a washable anti-scale filter and maintenance instructions.
Documented safety protections
The manual names three automatic protections:
- Boil shutoff: the kettle switches off when the water begins to boil.
- Thermal cutoff: a separate protection is provided against excessive temperature.
- Lift-off shutoff: the kettle automatically stops when its body is lifted from the base.
These are design features described in DeLonghi’s documentation. They should not be presented as an independent safety-test result. Keep the base and connector dry, use the kettle on a stable surface, and follow the fill limits and cleaning instructions in the manual.
Electrical compatibility is a purchase requirement
The cited black model is rated for 220–240 V at 50–60 Hz. A 2,000 W appliance at that voltage is not automatically suitable for a 100–120 V outlet. Do not rely on a plug adapter to solve a voltage mismatch: an adapter changes the plug shape, not the appliance’s operating voltage. Before ordering, check the model suffix, the rating plate on the listing or box, your local mains voltage and the retailer’s warranty terms.

Even within the same colour family, suffixes can vary by market. The manual’s KBD2001.BK, KBD2001.GR and KBD2001.W names are useful identifiers, but they are not proof that every country sells every colour or electrical configuration.
What independent review evidence is actually available
CHOICE has a review entry for the DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001. In the publicly visible Australian page snapshot, it lists an A$119 price, 1.7-litre capacity, 0.3-litre minimum level, 2,000 W power and 1.24 kg weight. The price is not a live quotation and should be checked before purchase.
CHOICE’s performance-test scores and brand-satisfaction score are member-only in that snapshot. Because those results are not visible, they cannot support a claim that this kettle boils faster, runs quieter, lasts longer or outperforms another model. No named independent statistic for speed, energy efficiency, noise, longevity or comparative quality is established here. The numbers in the specification table are technical ratings or a displayed listing value, not measured outcomes.
You can consult the CHOICE DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001 page if you have access, but verify the publication date and whether its price and test data still apply to the version sold in your market.

What using it involves
- Identify the rating: confirm the suffix and 220–240 V rating before filling the kettle.
- Remove the kettle from the base: fill through the lid or opening while keeping the electrical base away from water.
- Choose the amount: use the water gauge, staying above the minimum and below the maximum mark.
- Return it to the base: place the body on the 360-degree swivel base and ensure it sits securely.
- Start heating: operate the lever control. The documented boil shutoff is intended to stop heating when the water boils.
- Lift and pour: the manual’s lift-off protection is designed to shut the kettle off when the body is removed from its base.
- After use: unplug or switch off at the outlet when appropriate, empty leftover water and allow the appliance to cool before cleaning.
The manual is the authority for the complete operating sequence and warnings. DeLonghi provides an official KBD2001 support centre for instructions and product support.
Cleaning, scale and the filter
Hard-water deposits affect kettles differently by location. The KBD2001 includes a removable, washable anti-scale filter, and the manual documents cleaning that supplied filter. Remove it only as described in the manual, rinse or wash it according to those instructions, and refit it securely before pouring.
The available documentation does not identify a replacement-filter part number. Do not assume that a generic filter or an accessory sold for another Ballerina model is compatible. If the supplied filter is damaged or missing, ask DeLonghi support for the correct part for your exact suffix and region.

Descaling frequency depends on water hardness and use. The sources establish that the appliance has a concealed element and a washable filter, but they do not provide a laboratory-based interval or a measured effect of scale on boil time. Follow the manual’s approved cleaning method rather than substituting an unverified chemical or procedure.

What the 2,000 W rating does—and does not—tell you
Two thousand watts describes the electrical input specified by DeLonghi for the 220–240 V model. It is useful when checking circuit compatibility and comparing headline specifications, but it is not a promise of a particular boiling time. The amount of water, its starting temperature, the voltage delivered by your outlet, altitude and scale condition can all affect the result. A full 1.7-litre boil will necessarily require more energy than the 0.3-litre minimum listed by CHOICE.
Do not convert the wattage directly into an efficiency score. The published figures do not include a measured energy-per-litre test, standby consumption or heat-loss result. If energy use is a deciding factor, compare independently measured tests performed under the same conditions rather than choosing solely by the largest wattage number.
Practical capacity planning
The six-cup description in DeLonghi’s 2025 manual and the 1.7-litre specification describe the upper capacity, while “one cup” on the product page describes the manufacturer’s minimum-use concept. Because cups vary, the gauge is the more dependable day-to-day reference. For one drink, fill only to the level required and keep above the marked minimum; for several servings, stay below the maximum line.
A larger capacity is useful for multiple mugs or cooking tasks, but it also means a heavier vessel when full. The visible CHOICE listing’s 1.24 kg figure should be checked to determine whether it is kettle-only or includes the base. Neither the manufacturer page nor the visible listing establishes a filled weight, pouring force or handle comfort, so those are points to assess in a shop or through a retailer’s return policy.
First-use and purchase checklist
- Match the exact suffix—KBD2001.BK, KBD2001.GR or KBD2001.W—to the listing, box and rating plate.
- Confirm 220–240 V and 50–60 Hz against your household supply before paying.
- Check that the detachable base, filter and instruction material are included.
- Inspect the water-level markings and maximum line before the first fill.
- Read the 2025 KBD2001–KBD3001 manual for the approved cleaning and safety procedure.
- Record the seller, purchase date and warranty terms in case support is needed.
- Check the current return policy, especially if buying an imported colour or a listing that omits the suffix.
This checklist does not replace the manual. It is intended to catch the most common purchase errors: wrong voltage, mixed regional listings and missing accessories.
Who should consider the KBD2001?
It suits buyers who want
- A full-size household kettle rather than a travel model.
- Simple boil-only operation with a physical lever.
- A cordless pouring experience from a detachable swivel base.
- A removable filter that can be washed instead of a permanently fixed screen.
- Documented automatic shutoff, thermal cutoff and lift-off protection.
- A design-led plastic kettle and a choice of the listed Ballerina colours, where available.
Look elsewhere if you need
- Selectable temperatures for different drinks.
- A keep-warm mode, timer, display or app control.
- Evidence-based comparisons of boil speed, noise or energy use before buying.
- A confirmed model for a 100–120 V electrical market.
- A readily identifiable replacement-filter part number.
How to compare it with another kettle
No competing model is established in the available material, so a fair comparison should use the same practical checkpoints rather than an unsupported winner claim.

Price, stock and regional buying checks
The A$119 figure shown on the CHOICE Australia snapshot is historical or otherwise not live; it should not be treated as the current retail price. Retail listings, colours, warranty terms and availability can change. Before paying, check the seller’s current price, delivery region, return policy, warranty coverage and the model code printed on the product page.
For a listing search, use the exact anchor DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001 and then verify whether the result is KBD2001.BK, KBD2001.GR or KBD2001.W. A listing that omits the suffix may combine photographs or specifications from different markets. Confirm the rating plate and included documentation before opening the package.
Support, warranty and replacement parts
DeLonghi’s KBD2001 support centre provides access to instructions and product support, but the cited pages do not establish a universal warranty length or a current replacement-filter part number. Those details can vary by country and seller. Obtain the warranty terms in writing and keep proof of purchase, especially when the product is imported.
If the filter is lost, cracked or no longer fits, contact DeLonghi with the complete suffix and rating information. A filter advertised for another Ballerina model should not be assumed compatible. Likewise, do not treat a generic descaler or plug adapter as an approved accessory without checking the manual and local support guidance.
Strengths and limitations in plain terms
| Strengths supported by the documentation | Limitations or unknowns |
|---|---|
| Large 1.7-litre stated capacity | No temperature selection or keep-warm mode |
| 2,000 W rating for 220–240 V markets | No independent boil-time, noise or energy result available here |
| Detachable 360-degree swivel base | Exact regional electrical version must be checked |
| Removable, washable anti-scale filter | Replacement-filter part number is not established |
| Water gauge, cord storage and non-slip feet | Long-term durability and handling have not been independently assessed |
| Three safety protections described in the manual | Documentation is not the same as an independent safety certification test |
Final buying advice
Buy the DeLonghi Ballerina KBD2001 when its priorities match yours: a 1.7-litre everyday kettle, straightforward lever operation, cordless lifting, washable filtration and a 220–240 V supply. Treat the product page and manual as the reliable sources for its advertised features, and treat the CHOICE price as a stale snapshot unless you verify it live.
Do not buy it expecting adjustable temperatures, a keep-warm function or proven superiority in speed, quietness or lifespan. Those outcomes are not established by the available public evidence. The sensible decision is therefore conditional: it is a plausible fit for simple boiling in a compatible electrical market, but buyers who require measured performance or advanced controls should choose a model whose specifications and independent test data explicitly provide them.
Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage does the KBD2001 use?
The cited KBD2001 models are rated at 220–240 V and 50–60 Hz. Check the exact suffix and rating plate for your country; a plug adapter cannot correct a voltage mismatch.
How much water does it hold?
The stated maximum capacity is 1.7 litres. DeLonghi’s product page says the minimum is about one cup, the 2025 manual describes six cups at capacity, and CHOICE’s visible Australian listing gives a 0.3-litre minimum.
Does it switch off automatically?
The 2025 DeLonghi manual documents automatic shutoff when water boils, thermal cutoff protection and shutoff when the kettle is lifted from its base. These are documented design features, not independent test results.
Is the base cordless?
The 360-degree swivel base is detachable, allowing the kettle body to be lifted and poured without a trailing cord.
Can the anti-scale filter be washed?
Yes. DeLonghi describes the filter as removable and washable. The supplied manual should be followed for removal, cleaning and refitting.
