HotHardware’s February 20, 2026 review finds the Dell XPS 14 (DA14260) to be a quiet, well-controlled premium ultraportable rather than a radical redesign. Its 70 Wh battery and disciplined cooling are the highlights. The 1920×1200 LCD configuration is the sensible choice for endurance and value, while the 2880×1800 Tandem OLED model offers stronger contrast and HDR presentation at a higher historical price and with less favorable efficiency. Missing USB-A ports and disappointing Gen 4 storage in the tested systems are the main cautions.
What HotHardware tested
David Altavilla’s HotHardware review, published February 20, 2026, covers Dell’s XPS 14 model DA14260 with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (“Panther Lake”) processors. The review describes two tested systems rather than one universal specification.

The review page describes a broader range from Core Ultra 5 325 through Core Ultra X9 388H, with 16 GB to 64 GB of memory. Dolby Vision is listed for both panel types; the OLED also carries DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Availability of particular combinations can vary by market, so check the exact processor, memory, storage and display on the listing you are considering.

Dell uses two larger, thinner fans, upgraded heat pipes and layered graphite thermal material. Side intakes feed the system and hot air exits at the rear. In light use, HotHardware found the laptop effectively silent. Under sustained CPU and GPU work, fan speed rose smoothly rather than abruptly; noise stayed below 40 dB on the reviewed Core Ultra X7 machine.

During a continuous 3DMark Speedway loop, the publication measured the warmest bottom area at about 100°F and the hottest top edge at about 96°F. Those are observations from HotHardware’s test environment, not guaranteed temperatures for every DA14260, room or workload. Surface temperature and fan behavior can change with ambient temperature, power mode and the specific processor.
Battery life: what “all day” means here
The XPS 14 carries a 70 Wh battery. HotHardware says its 2K LCD system lasted beyond a standard workday in the publication’s mixed, light-use description, but the review page does not provide a legible exact LCD runtime that can be quoted responsibly.

The Tandem OLED system lasted more than 19 hours in HotHardware’s controlled PCMark Video Playback test. That is a repeatable comparison point for that configuration and method, not a promise of 19 hours of web browsing, compiling, gaming or high-brightness creative work. Brightness, refresh behavior, wireless activity and application load all affect real runtime. The OLED’s adaptive range starts at 20 Hz, while the LCD can range from 1 to 120 Hz, which helps explain why panel choice matters as much as processor choice when endurance is the priority.
LCD or OLED?
Choose the 1920×1200 LCD when efficiency comes first
- The LCD review system exceeded a normal workday in HotHardware’s mixed light-use account.
- Its 500-nit, non-touch panel and 1–120 Hz range suit documents, browsers and general productivity.
- The $1,449 tested price was substantially below the OLED system’s $2,199.99 review-era price.
Choose Tandem OLED for image quality
- The 2880×1800 touch display provides deeper contrast and more compelling HDR and media presentation.
- HotHardware lists Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR True Black 500 for the OLED panel.
- You pay more and should treat the controlled battery result as configuration-specific rather than a general runtime guarantee.
Ports, design and everyday hardware
The chassis is approximately three pounds and about 15 mm thick. Connectivity consists of three Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery, a headphone jack and no USB-A port. Anyone using older flash drives, wired mice or other USB-A equipment will need a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter or dock; HotHardware did not test or endorse a particular accessory.

HotHardware praised the construction, speakers, keyboard, trackpad, graphics capability and AI performance of its review units. These observations apply to the tested configurations, and the exact feel or performance can vary with the processor, memory, display and storage option.
Storage caveat
The two reviewed machines used PCIe Gen 4 drives, and HotHardware criticized their storage performance. Higher-end DA14260 configurations are described as offering PCIe Gen 5 storage, so the criticism should not be generalized to every model. Verify the drive generation and capacity in the specific configuration; the XPS 14 family name alone does not identify them.

Prices and buying guidance
HotHardware reported a $1,349 starting price, $1,449 for the tested LCD/16 GB system and $2,199.99 for the tested OLED configuration. These are February 2026 review-era figures, not September 2026 quotes or guarantees of current availability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Start with the panel: pick LCD for endurance and value, OLED for contrast, HDR and creative or media work.
- Check the processor and memory: DA14260 spans Core Ultra 5 through Core Ultra X9 and 16 GB through 64 GB, so performance and longevity differ materially.
- Confirm storage: identify whether the listing uses Gen 4 or Gen 5 PCIe storage and do not assume the tested Gen 4 behavior applies to Gen 5 models.
- Budget for connectivity: plan for a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter if your peripherals still use USB-A.
- Compare the current offer: use the review prices only as historical context and verify the exact display, CPU, RAM, SSD and warranty in your region.
How this review fits other assessments
Notebookcheck’s XPS 14 (2026) review collection similarly records praise for the aluminum construction, portability, OLED panel and battery life, while noting price, limited ports and keyboard or touchpad quirks among recurring concerns. That page aggregates separate reviews rather than presenting one controlled comparison, so it is best read as evidence that experiences are not identical across configurations and reviewers.

Verdict
HotHardware awarded the XPS 14 Editor’s Choice and describes it as a balanced, quiet and efficient premium laptop. The review’s conclusion is that “The new Dell XPS 14 (DAA14260) is less about dramatic reinvention and more about disciplined refinement.” The misspelling “DAA14260” is preserved here exactly as printed in the quotation; Dell’s model designation elsewhere is DA14260.
That refinement is most convincing in the cooling and battery behavior. The LCD model is the practical recommendation for office-heavy buyers who value runtime and price. The OLED model is the better visual tool when contrast and HDR justify its premium. Neither should be purchased without checking the exact configuration: USB-A is absent, reviewed Gen 4 SSD performance was weak, and the quoted prices are historical.
