What Dell’s $699.99 XPS 13 includes
Dell’s displayed US configuration pairs an Intel Core 5-320 processor with Windows 11 Home, 8GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD and Intel integrated graphics. Its 13.4-inch touchscreen has a 2.5K resolution of 2560 × 1600. Dell lists the configuration at $699.99; student pricing starts at $599. What makes it feel premium
The case is CNC-machined aluminum, and Dell describes the laptop as about 12.7mm thin and 2.2 pounds (approximately 1kg). That combination of low weight, metal construction and a high-resolution touch display is the substance of the XPS 13’s premium appeal—not workstation-class power. Dell calls it the thinnest and lightest XPS laptop it has made. Dell’s 2026 announcement.
The 2.5K touchscreen offers more detail than a basic Full HD panel, while touch input can be useful for navigation and quick interaction. Independent reviews also describe the design and display positively. The listed configuration’s integrated graphics and entry-level memory, however, make it better suited to everyday productivity than to intensive graphics work.

Battery life: useful, but test results differ
Battery figures are not directly interchangeable: manufacturers and review labs use different configurations, brightness levels, playback conditions and workloads. Dell claims up to 17 hours of Netflix streaming, but that figure is for a specified test configuration with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD—not the listed 8GB/256GB base model. Independent reviews report different video-playback results:

Taken together, the results suggest the XPS 13 can deliver strong endurance, but actual runtime depends on what you do with it. Treat the manufacturer’s maximum as a best-case claim, not a promise that your own workday will match it.

Is the base configuration enough?
For web browsing, schoolwork, office documents, video calls and travel, 8GB of memory and a 256GB drive can be sufficient—especially if you keep few large files locally and do not run many demanding apps at once. The trade-off is limited headroom. Heavy multitasking, large creative projects, or a sizeable local photo and video library can make the base specification feel restrictive sooner.
Before checkout, compare the price of 16GB or 32GB of memory and 512GB or 1TB of storage. Choose an upgraded configuration if your workload needs it; do not assume that a slim laptop’s components can be upgraded later unless Dell confirms that for the specific model.
