Dell announced on December 9, 2024, that it was shipping the first PowerEdge XE9712 systems equipped with NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 to CoreWeave. The announcement marked an infrastructure shipment—not the start of general availability for CoreWeave’s cloud service. Dell described the systems as liquid-cooled, integrated IR7000 racks intended for large-scale AI training and inference.
What Dell and CoreWeave announced
Dell said it was extending its strategic relationship with CoreWeave and shipping the first XE9712 systems with NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 for CoreWeave’s cloud platform. The installation was described as Dell Integrated Rack IR7000 infrastructure, with liquid cooling and Dell Professional Services supporting design and deployment. Dell identified large language model (LLM) training and real-time inference at scale as intended workloads. Dell’s announcement did not publish independent performance results from the specific CoreWeave deployment.

Dell COO and vice chairman Jeff Clarke said the racks equipped CoreWeave enterprise customers with speed and scalability for AI projects. That is Dell’s characterization of the system, not an independently measured result.
What is in a GB200 NVL72 rack?
NVIDIA describes GB200 NVL72 as a rack-scale, liquid-cooled system combining 36 Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs. The company lists 130 TB/s of NVLink communication bandwidth and 13.4 TB of GPU HBM3E memory for the configuration. These are NVIDIA-published specifications, not measurements of CoreWeave’s installation. NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL72 product page was consulted on September 30, 2026.

- Dell PowerEdge R730xd 24B SFF 2U Server
- 2x Intel Xeon E5-2690 v4 2.6Ghz 14-Core (28-cores Total)
- 128GB DDR4 RAM – 4x 1.2TB 10K SAS 2.5” 12Gb/s
- Dell H730P mini 2GB 12Gb/s RAID
- 2x 750W PSU - 2x 10Gb SFP+ 2x 1Gb (RJ45) NIC
The rack-scale NVLink domain connects the GPUs within the system. For communication across systems, Dell’s announcement placed the infrastructure in a larger cluster context using NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand. Those are distinct layers: NVLink operates within the rack-scale system, while InfiniBand supports networking between systems.
What workloads is the system for?
Dell positioned the shipment for demanding AI workloads, particularly training large language models and running real-time inference. The configuration combines many GPUs in a tightly connected rack, while the surrounding network can connect systems into larger clusters. That makes it infrastructure for cloud and enterprise-scale computing, rather than a standalone server or consumer product.

NVIDIA advertises up to 30× faster real-time inference for trillion-parameter LLMs and up to 4× faster LLM training compared with H100-based systems. These are NVIDIA’s stated figures, tied to its specified comparison conditions; NVIDIA notes projected performance can change. They are not independent tests of CoreWeave’s installation. NVIDIA’s product page provides the performance claims.
Shipment, customer access, and cloud availability are different milestones
The timeline matters because the first Dell shipment in 2024 should not be confused with later announcements about customer access to CoreWeave’s cloud service.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The announcement establishes that Dell said it shipped the first XE9712 systems with GB200 NVL72 to CoreWeave and describes the intended rack design and workloads. It does not establish independent performance, energy savings, or pricing for that specific installation. The later CoreWeave announcements concern customer access and cloud availability, not proof of results from the original shipment.
