Its 120 Hz, 2560 × 1600 display and reported battery life are appealing, but the review also flags loud cooling, exhaust directed toward mousing hands, and limited wired connectivity. These findings apply to HotHardware’s specific 2023 test unit—not every laptop sold as an Inspiron 16 Plus.
Which Inspiron 16 Plus does this review cover?
This is HotHardware’s performance page for the Inspiron 16 Plus 7630, reviewed by Ben Funk and published November 22, 2023. The test configuration had an Intel Core i7-13700H, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 rated up to 60 W, 16 GB of DDR5-4800 memory, a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and an 86 Wh battery. HotHardware describes two upgradeable SO-DIMM slots and an official 32 GB memory maximum for this configuration. Those details should not be assumed for a different generation or configuration. HotHardware’s review and benchmark results are specific to that unit.

Dell’s current product page includes later Inspiron 16 Plus and Dell 16 Plus listings with different processors, graphics, displays, and memory options. A shared family name does not establish that a listing matches the 7630 reviewed here. Dell’s product page is useful for checking current configurations, but live pricing and availability should be verified when buying.

How did it perform in HotHardware’s tests?
HotHardware installed Windows and Dell updates, then current Nvidia GeForce drivers before testing. It ran each benchmark at least three times and reported the median. The review used Optimized and Ultra Performance modes; its high-power and gaming results include Ultra Performance. Treat the findings as results from that test setup and the review’s November 2023 publication period, not as a current, standardized comparison with every laptop.

Everyday and CPU performance
The review reports particularly high BrowserBench Speedometer results, while CPU performance was generally in line with expectations for the hardware. Its narrative supports a favorable productivity-performance impression, but it does not provide transcribed chart scores for additional precise comparisons.
Graphics and gaming
HotHardware characterized the 60 W RTX 4060’s results as solid. Ultra Performance mode improved performance in some games, with a corresponding increase in fan noise. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the review reports roughly a 10% improvement at 1080p in Ultra Performance mode. At the laptop’s 2560 × 1600 resolution in that mode, it reports 68 fps and a 54 fps minimum. Those are results for the reviewed test unit and settings, not a guarantee for every game or configuration.

What are the day-to-day tradeoffs?
Screen and battery
HotHardware identifies the 16-inch 2560 × 1600, 120 Hz screen and battery life among the laptop’s strengths. The material available here does not establish a specific battery-runtime figure or a comparable test condition, so a precise number would overstate what the review supports.
Cooling and comfort
The review’s main comfort concern is loud cooling, particularly when performance mode raises fan activity. It also notes that side exhaust blows toward the area where a user’s mousing hand may sit. That placement and noise are worth considering if you often game or run demanding workloads beside the laptop.

Ports and desk setup
The described selection includes one Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, HDMI 2.1, USB-A, and microSD. If your peripherals need more wired connections, a compatible USB-C hub or Thunderbolt dock could be useful, but HotHardware did not test a particular accessory. Check the exact port configuration on the specific 7630 listing before purchase.
Is the Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 a good fit?
Based on HotHardware’s review, the 7630 is a reasonable candidate for someone seeking a large, high-resolution screen, strong productivity performance, and gaming capability from a 60 W RTX 4060. The decision depends on whether its noise under load and port selection suit your work space and accessories. Because this is a 2023 review of one configuration, use it to understand that unit’s tradeoffs rather than to infer performance or value for a newer model. For a fair alternative comparison, check the precise GPU power limit, display resolution and refresh rate, workload and game results, cooling noise, battery test conditions, ports, configuration, and current price.
