The Dell C1422H is a compact 14-inch, 1080p USB-C monitor best suited to mobile office work—not gaming or a large second desktop. It offers crisp text and good bright-room visibility in RTINGS’ review, but its usefulness depends on a key compatibility check: your device’s USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode video and supply enough power. The monitor has no built-in battery.
What the Dell C1422H offers
Dell specifies a 14-inch IPS display with a 1920 × 1080 resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate. Its compact size adds a practical second workspace for documents, chat, or reference material, though it leaves less room for multitasking than a larger desktop display.

Dell’s 300 cd/m² figure is the manufacturer’s rating, not a guarantee of the result in every unit or measurement method. Tom’s Hardware reported measuring 241 nits in its review. These are different kinds of figures: one is Dell’s specification and the other is that outlet’s test result. Dell’s Singapore product listing provides the specifications and regional bundle details.
Will it work with your laptop or phone?
The C1422H has two USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.2 mode. A USB-C connector by itself does not guarantee video output: the host port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode. Dell also states that normal laptop or phone operation requires the host to provide video and at least 7.5 W of power.
#1 Best Overall
- Take dual-screen productivity everywhere with this ultrathin, ultralight portable monitor.
- Find your perfect setup with a continuous tilt stand that adjusts from 10 to 90 degrees. This monitor is also VESA-mount compatible.
- Quick access buttons easily control brightness, ensuring optimal picture quality indoors and outdoors.
- Keep your monitor safe with a sleeve that has a compartment for cable storage.
- Expand your view with a FHD+ 16:10 panel. Get consistent, vibrant colours across wide viewing angles thanks to In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Check video: Confirm that the device’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Consult the device maker’s specifications; do not rely only on the port’s shape.
- Check power: Dell’s stated 7.5 W host-output requirement may make a separate USB-C power adapter necessary for a low-power host.
- Check conversion carefully: If your device only has HDMI or DisplayPort, a generic adapter is not assured to work. Verify a conversion solution specifically for the device and monitor connection.
Dell’s support guide and C1422H user guide explain the connection and power requirements.
Can it charge a connected laptop?
The monitor supports power delivery up to 65 W. Dell says that connecting a 90 W or higher power adapter allows the monitor to deliver a maximum of 65 W to a connected device. That is a ceiling, not a promise that every laptop will receive the full power it needs to charge at its usual rate. Check your laptop’s charging requirement as well as the adapter rating before relying on pass-through charging.

- 16:9 widescreen resolution perfect for watching movies, playing video games and getting on with office work
- 14" screen size with 1920x1080 resolution provides a native display of a Full HD video sources without any degradation due to down-sampling technologies
- 300 Nit brightness gives an exceptional visible display for clear and consistent on-screen pictures
- Minimize blurring and smearing during motion and gaming sequences with a 6 ms response time to provide a clear picture
Because the C1422H has no internal battery, it needs power from the host or a suitable external USB-C power source. If the host cannot provide sufficient power—or you want to charge the laptop through the monitor—plan for an adapter and verify the power path against Dell’s guidance.

Office work and text
RTINGS’ review, published December 16, 2021, found excellent text clarity and good visibility in bright rooms, making the C1422H a reasonable fit for mobile productivity. That assessment is RTINGS’ finding, not a new hands-on test. Its 14-inch canvas is still small, so it works better as a companion display than as a spacious replacement for a desktop monitor.

Color expectations
The available Dell specifications establish the panel type and rated brightness, but they do not by themselves establish professional color accuracy. Tom’s Hardware and Notebookcheck published independent reviews and test results, but their measurements are specific to their review units and methods. If color-critical work is central to your purchase, consult those reviews’ detailed measurements rather than treating the product specification as proof of color accuracy.
Gaming and motion
RTINGS judged the monitor mediocre for gaming, citing blurry motion from slow response behavior and the absence of variable refresh rate (VRR) and other advanced gaming features. Its 60 Hz refresh rate is also an office-oriented specification, not a high-refresh gaming feature. Choose it for portability and productivity rather than fast-action play.

How portable is it, and what are the ergonomic limits?
Dell’s Singapore listing gives a weight of 590 g and includes a sleeve and USB-C cable in that regional offer. Dell describes tilt adjustment, but RTINGS found the ergonomics limited. The low listed weight and sleeve make it convenient to carry; the limited adjustment means it may take more effort to position comfortably on different desks. Bundle contents and warranty terms are market-specific: the Singapore listing gives a three-year warranty, which should not be assumed for other regions.
Who should buy the Dell C1422H?
- A good fit: Someone who needs a light, compact second screen for office tasks and has a USB-C host that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and adequate power output.
- Consider another type of monitor: Anyone who needs a large multitasking area, flexible stand adjustment, a built-in battery, or strong gaming motion performance.
- Check before buying: Anyone relying on a phone or low-power device, a non-USB-C video connection, or laptop charging through the monitor.
Current prices, stock, and retailer terms are not established here, so compare the live offer in your market against those needs. A lower price does not resolve a compatibility or power shortfall.
