The Dell 14 Plus is a practical 14-inch Windows laptop for everyday work, with Intel and AMD configurations and a mix of screen options. It makes the most sense for students and productivity users who value capable performance and potentially good battery life over premium speakers, a standout display, or distinctive design. Because specifications vary by region and configuration, check the exact model before buying.
What the Dell 14 Plus is—and which model this review covers
Dell sells the 14 Plus as a mainstream clamshell laptop. It is distinct from the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 and the Dell Pro 14 Plus. Reviews identify Intel DB14250 and AMD DB14255 versions, but their findings do not apply equally to every configuration. Screen, processor, memory, storage, ports, and regional availability can differ.

Configuration choices: Intel or AMD, and which screen?
TechRadar’s 2025 review illustrates how much the family varies by market. Its US entry configuration used a Ryzen AI 5 340, Radeon 840M graphics, 16 GB LPDDR5X memory, a 512 GB SSD, and a non-touch FHD+ screen rated at 300 nits. Its UK entry configuration used a Core Ultra 7 256V, Intel Arc graphics, the same listed memory and storage capacities, and a non-touch 2.5K IPS panel rated at 300 nits. These are review-era listings, not current inventory promises.

TechRadar also listed a US/UK top configuration with a Core Ultra 9 288V, 32 GB memory, a 1 TB SSD, and a 2.5K 90-Hz panel; its Australian top option differed. The practical lesson is to compare the precise panel and processor, not just the family name. A higher screen resolution or refresh rate is a specification, not proof of better measured brightness or color performance.
The Intel review configuration described by TechRadar included USB-A, USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, and a combo audio jack. Tom’s Guide lists, for its described configuration, a 65 Wh battery, two USB-C ports (one Thunderbolt 4), one USB-A, HDMI 2.1, a 3.5 mm combo port, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. These details should be confirmed against the exact SKU; they are not a universal port or wireless specification for every regional model.
How well does it handle everyday work?
Everyday productivity is the strongest fit supported by the reviews. WIRED found its tested machine powerful enough for school, office tasks, and light content creation. Windows Central found its AMD review unit smooth for browsing, email, Office, and light photo editing, while identifying graphics-heavy work as a limitation.

That makes the 14 Plus a sensible candidate for documents, web apps, video calls, and routine multitasking, provided the chosen configuration has the memory and storage you need. Integrated graphics are not a reason to choose it for demanding gaming or other graphics-intensive workloads; the reviewed AMD system, in particular, was described as limited for graphics-heavy tasks.

Screen quality depends on the panel
Reviewers did not agree on the display, in part because they evaluated different configurations. WIRED measured a maximum brightness of 332 nits on its tested IPS screen and judged it solid. Laptop Mag described its reviewed screen as mediocre, while Windows Central criticized the FHD+ screen on its AMD model. Those assessments should not be collapsed into one verdict for every Dell 14 Plus.
If you often work outdoors, need dependable color for photo or design work, or are sensitive to a dim-looking screen, verify the precise panel listed for the SKU and look for measurements or an independent review of that same configuration. Do not assume an FHD+ entry panel and a 2.5K option will look alike simply because they are in the same laptop family.
Battery life: good results, but not one guaranteed number
Reviewers reported notably different runtimes under different test conditions and on different machines:
| Source and reviewed configuration | Reported result | Context |
| WIRED, Intel Core Ultra 7 256V unit, 2025 | Around 18 hours | WIRED reviewer Luke Larsen’s testing; the published description does not specify a more detailed test protocol. |
| TechRadar, 2025 | Nearly 13.5 hours | Web-surfing battery test. |
| Laptop Mag, 2025 | 13 hours 25 minutes | Publication’s tested configuration. |
| Windows Central, AMD DB14255 unit, 2025 | Around seven hours of screen-on use | Maximum-performance test settings. |
These figures are reviewer test outcomes, not a promise of how long any particular configuration will run. Workload, settings, and model differ, and the available descriptions do not make the tests directly comparable. Use them as evidence that some reviewed configurations delivered strong endurance, not as a guaranteed runtime for your purchase.

What feels less premium?
Audio is the most consistent weakness in the reviewed machines: WIRED criticized the speakers, Laptop Mag called them hollow, and Windows Central also found the bottom-firing speakers poor. WIRED also criticized the webcam. If you rely on the built-in speakers or camera for frequent calls, those are meaningful trade-offs to weigh against the laptop’s productivity strengths.
The title’s “basic looks” is best understood as a positioning point: this is a conventional clamshell rather than a design-led premium machine. Review judgments about tactile refinement and the touchpad vary, so there is not enough consistent evidence to call every unit poorly finished. Consider handling the exact model if touchpad feel or chassis refinement matters to you.
Is the Dell 14 Plus worth buying?
It can be a worthwhile everyday laptop if the exact configuration is competitively priced and its screen, ports, and memory fit your needs. The case for buying is practical rather than glamorous: reviewers found the reviewed systems capable for ordinary productivity, and several recorded good battery results. The reasons to look elsewhere are equally concrete: speakers were a recurring complaint, some reviewed screens drew criticism, and graphics-heavy use is not its strength.

- Consider it for school, office work, browsing, and light editing if you can verify a suitable configuration at a good current price.
- Compare alternatives if a high-quality screen, strong built-in audio, gaming performance, or especially polished design is a priority.
- Before checkout, confirm the exact processor, graphics, display, memory, storage, port selection, region, and live price. Review-era prices and listings are not reliable evidence of today’s offer.
