Delhi Traffic Police scheduled special traffic arrangements around Rajghat and Vijay Ghat from 5 am to 11 am on Friday, October 2, 2026. The one-morning advisory covered Gandhi Jayanti at Rajghat and the 122nd birth anniversary commemoration of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat. It has expired and should not be used as live route guidance.
What the October 2 advisory covered
In a report published October 1, 2026, Hindustan Times quoted the Delhi Traffic Police advisory as saying: “In view of the programmes scheduled at Rajghat on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and at Vijay Ghat to commemorate the 122nd Birth Anniversary of Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on 02.10.2026, special traffic arrangements will remain in place from 0500 hrs to 1100 hrs.” The arrangements therefore applied to the morning of October 2, not to subsequent days. Daily Jagran’s report on October 2 listed the following as possible disruption areas. These details are from secondary reporting; the full primary traffic notice and map were not available for direct comparison, so the list should not be read as confirmation that every road was fully closed.
- Ring Road between Rajghat and Salimgarh Y-Point/ISBT Kashmere Gate
- Nishad Raj Marg and Raja Ram Kohli Marg
- Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg
- The stretch between Shantivan Chowk and IP Flyover
- Asaf Ali Road
- The Guru Nanak Chowk–Ranjit Singh Flyover stretch
- The Rajghat DTC Depot–Ring Road Bypass stretch
The same report named traffic control points at ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot, IP Flyover, Salimgarh Y-Point, Salimgarh Bypass Cut, the ISBT Kashmere Gate loop on Raja Ram Kohli Marg, under Salimgarh Flyover, Subhash Marg T-Point, and Sunheri Masjid Cut on Nishad Raj Marg. Alternate routes reported for the advisory
Daily Jagran suggested these alternatives for specific journeys during the event period. They were reported route options, not guarantees of access or faster travel; police directions and signs at the time took precedence.
- Kashmere Gate to West or Central Delhi: Boulevard Road and Rani Jhansi Flyover toward DBG Road or Panchkuian Road.
- East or South Delhi to Central Delhi: Mathura Road, Ashram Chowk, or the Barapullah corridor.
- Some West or Central Delhi trips to New Delhi Railway Station: JL Nehru Marg via Minto Road or DDU Marg.
What motorists were advised to do
Hindustan Times quoted the Delhi Traffic Police advisory: “Motorists are requested to remain patient, follow traffic rules and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed in the area. Please follow diversion signs and traffic directions to avoid congestion.” Hindustan Times

The October 2 arrangements were limited to a past date, so do not rely on the reported diversions for a current trip.
