Delete your WhatsApp Status on Android
The deletion path is inside the status viewer rather than the general chat settings. Follow these steps for the specific photo, video, text, GIF or other update you no longer want displayed:

- Open WhatsApp on your Android phone.
- Open the Updates or status area and tap My status. The exact tab position can depend on the current WhatsApp layout, but the item is labeled My status.
- Display the status update you want to remove. If you have posted more than one update, move through your updates until the unwanted item is on screen.
- Tap More options, represented by three vertical dots.
- Tap Delete.
- Tap Delete again when WhatsApp asks you to confirm.
After the confirmation, that individual status is deleted through WhatsApp’s in-app control. WhatsApp describes statuses as updates that can be deleted and replaced, rather than edited in place: “You can’t edit statuses, but you can delete and share a new update.”

WhatsApp’s Android help instructions say that multiple statuses cannot be deleted at once. There is no single bulk-delete command in the documented flow. When several updates need to come down, repeat the complete sequence for each one:

- Return to My status after finishing the previous deletion.
- Open the next update.
- Use More options > Delete > Delete.
This matters when a status was posted as a series of separate photos or videos. Each item is treated as its own update, so removing one does not automatically remove the others.
Delete now or wait for the status to expire?
Status updates disappear from view after 24 hours, according to the WhatsApp Help Center. If the update is harmless and you do not need it removed immediately, simply leaving it posted allows that expiry to occur. If the content is wrong, private, or otherwise needs to come down sooner, use the deletion steps instead.

The 24-hour period is the normal status lifetime described by WhatsApp; it is not a command that deletes several updates together. A status that is already close to expiring may therefore disappear naturally while you are deciding what to do.

What if you mean someone else’s status?
My status controls updates you posted. It cannot remove an update posted by another contact. For someone else’s status, WhatsApp provides Hide, which moves that person’s update into the Hidden section of your status view.

Hiding is a viewing preference, not deletion. It does not erase the other person’s update, and it does not delete or alter your own status. The contact can still have their update available to other viewers, and hiding their status does not change that person’s ability to see your status.

Why a deleted status might still be seen
WhatsApp’s deletion instructions include a connection warning: a status may remain visible to a contact who is experiencing connection problems. In practical terms, removal in your app does not guarantee that every viewer’s phone has received the change at the same moment.
If you deleted an update and a contact says they can still see it, first verify that you completed the second Delete confirmation and that you removed the intended item. The documented caveat still applies even when the deletion path was followed correctly: the contact’s connection may delay the change reaching their device.

Checking that you selected the right update
Because deletion is per update, selection is the main point at which an unintended item could be removed. Before tapping More options, pause on the exact photo, video, text or other status you want to take down. If your status contains several items, do not assume that deleting the currently displayed item clears the whole sequence; WhatsApp says each status must be handled separately.
The final confirmation is also deliberate. The path has two distinct delete taps: the first opens the deletion command from More options, and the second confirms it. If you back out before the confirmation, you have not completed the documented deletion action.
Replacing a status after deletion
WhatsApp does not provide an edit command for a posted status. If a caption, image, video or other element is wrong, the supported pattern is to delete that update and then share a new update with the corrected content. This is different from editing a message in a chat: the existing status is removed, and the replacement is posted as a separate update.

When replacing one item in a multi-update sequence, delete only the incorrect item unless you also want the remaining updates removed. Since bulk deletion is not available, the other items stay in place until they are individually deleted or reach the 24-hour expiry.

Common situations and the correct action
You posted something by mistake
Open My status, display the mistaken update, and use More options > Delete > Delete. This is the case for which the documented deletion flow is intended.
You posted several items and only one is wrong
Open the wrong item rather than deleting every update. WhatsApp treats each status separately, so deleting that one leaves the other updates available.
You no longer need the status but there is no urgency
You can leave it posted until it disappears from view after 24 hours. This avoids an immediate action when the normal expiry is acceptable.
You are tired of seeing a contact’s status
Use Hide for that contact’s update. Do not open My status, because that area is for updates you posted yourself.

A contact reports seeing the status after deletion
Check that the deletion was confirmed, then account for WhatsApp’s stated connection caveat. A contact with connection problems may continue to see the update temporarily.
Privacy considerations before and after deletion
Deleting is the appropriate in-app action when your goal is to remove your own status before the normal 24-hour lifetime ends. It is not the same as retracting every copy a viewer may already have observed. Someone could have viewed the update before you deleted it, and WhatsApp specifically warns that connection conditions can affect when the removal is reflected for a contact.
For that reason, treat deletion as removal of the status from WhatsApp’s status flow, not as a guarantee that no person has seen or retained what was displayed. The Help Center’s connection warning is the documented qualification; avoid assuming that every viewer’s screen updates instantly.

When the labels do not appear as expected
The documented route depends on opening the update itself. If you cannot see Delete, return to My status and make sure an individual update is displayed before opening the three-dot More options menu. The delete command belongs to that viewing screen, not to another person’s status and not to the general status list.
If more than one update is present, move to the specific item you intend to remove and repeat the action there. This avoids applying the confirmation to the wrong item and reflects WhatsApp’s per-update deletion rule.
Bottom line
For an Android phone, the reliable path is My status > open the target update > More options > Delete > Delete. Repeat it for each update because WhatsApp does not offer bulk deletion. If you only mean to remove another contact’s status from your own view, choose Hide instead. Otherwise, waiting is an option because status updates disappear from view after 24 hours, while WhatsApp cautions that connection problems can delay what a contact sees after deletion.
