“Musk chip company” is not a formal corporate name. The phrase most likely refers to Tesla, Inc., the company Elon Musk leads, which designs its own AI inference chips for Full Self-Driving software. No separate, Musk-owned chip company appears in the sources that document this work.
Why the phrase points to Tesla
The wording is informal, so the reader has to infer the company. Two official Tesla sources describe in-house chip work, and the investor relations biography of Musk places him within Tesla’s leadership. Taken together, the most defensible reading is that “Musk chip company” means Tesla’s chip-design business.

What Tesla says about its chips
- Purpose: Tesla’s AI and Robotics page states that the company builds AI inference chips to run its Full Self-Driving software. Tesla, AI and Robotics
- Design tasks: The same page names floor-planning, timing and power analysis, and silicon validation as steps before mass production for Tesla vehicles. Tesla, AI and Robotics
- Corporate description: Tesla’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes “our own in-house, custom designed inference chips” used to accelerate neural networks. Tesla, FY2025 Form 10-K
These are company descriptions in Tesla’s own words. They establish that Tesla designs chips for its AI applications. They do not independently confirm chip performance, volumes, or how widely the chips are deployed.

Designing a chip and fabricating it are different activities. The 10-K also describes a collaboration with Samsung to manufacture advanced semiconductors for AI inference and training in the United States. Tesla’s in-house design work therefore should not be read as meaning every chip is produced in a Tesla-owned facility.

Where the evidence stops
- The sources identify Tesla as the company with this documented chip activity. They do not identify a standalone chip company owned by Musk.
- If a reader meant a different company, the phrase alone does not resolve that. The Tesla reading is the one the official sources support.
- Tesla’s descriptions of its chips are self-reported. Independent verification of their capabilities is not established in these sources.
