DeepSeek has upgraded its V4.1 Flash model to DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, according to an October 17, 2026 API changelog. DeepSeek says the revision completes tasks in less time, produces shorter outputs and improves results across coding, agent and multimodal tests. The web and app versions were updated as well; API users still select deepseek-flash, with the calling method and pricing unchanged.
What changed in the October 17 update
The change is an in-place upgrade rather than a new API product name. DeepSeek says V4.1 Flash is now served as DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. Existing API integrations should continue requesting deepseek-flash; DeepSeek says no calling-method or pricing change is required.

Users of DeepSeek’s web and mobile applications receive the updated model there too. The announcement does not provide a new consumer setting or a separate migration process, so the practical change for most users is automatic access to the revised model.

Why DeepSeek calls it faster and leaner
DeepSeek describes the revision as a performance–cost Pareto improvement over the earlier V4.1 Flash. Its stated goals are shorter task runtimes and fewer output tokens while maintaining or improving task quality. If those reductions hold in a particular workload, a job can finish sooner and consume fewer billed output tokens; the company does not publish a new price in this announcement.
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
“Faster” should therefore be read as a claim about end-to-end task runtime, not a guaranteed reduction in every prompt’s response latency. Actual speed depends on prompt size, tool calls, queueing, hardware, network conditions and the application harness.
How to access DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017
- Web or app: Open DeepSeek’s normal chat product. DeepSeek says those models were updated, so no model-name change is needed in the interface.
- API: Keep the model value set to
deepseek-flash. The October 17 changelog says this alias reaches the latest Flash model. - Deployment checks: Review your own latency, output-token counts, tool success rates and application costs after the upgrade. The announcement promises unchanged pricing, but workload-level spending still depends on how many tokens and calls your software generates.
Benchmark results reported by DeepSeek
The company supplied the following 2026 scores for the updated model. They are not independent evaluations, and several use specific tools, frameworks or pass criteria that affect comparability.
Rank #2
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
- PCIe 5.0

| Evaluation | Score | Condition reported by DeepSeek |
|---|---|---|
| HLE | 42.6 | Pure-text subset; 44.0 under a marked condition |
| Terminal-Bench 4.0 | 42.3 | Run with the Claude Code framework |
| DeepSWE v1.1 | 77.0 | Used Mini-SWE-V2 |
| ProgramBench | 29.1 | Condition not stated |
| NL2Repo-Bench | 68.2 | Condition not stated |
| Automation-Bench v1.0.6 | 60.5 | Condition not stated |
| Agents’ Last Exam | 35.4 | Condition not stated |
| Apex Bench v1.1 | 72.1 | Condition not stated |
| Chartography | 83.0 | With tools |
| BabyVision | 92.5 | With tools |
| ZeroBench-main | 51.0 | With tools; Pass@5 |
These figures indicate the areas DeepSeek chose to highlight, including software engineering, agents and visual tasks. They do not establish that the model is universally faster or better than another vendor’s system. A fair comparison requires the same benchmark version, prompts, tool permissions, harness, hardware and pass criteria. In particular, a score from a tool-enabled run should not be compared directly with a no-tool score.
The V4.1 Flash architecture behind the update
In its September 10, 2026 product announcement, DeepSeek described V4.1 Flash as the smallest model in its new architecture family, while still providing native visual understanding.

| Architecture detail | DeepSeek’s description | Practical significance |
|---|---|---|
| Total parameters | 552 billion in a mixture-of-experts (MoE) design | Total model capacity is much larger than the portion used for each token. |
| Active parameters for input | 8 billion | Only a subset of the MoE capacity is active during input processing. |
| Active parameters for output | 16 billion | Generation uses a larger active slice than input processing, according to DeepSeek. |
| Model structure | Causal encoder–decoder | The architecture separates input encoding and output generation. |
| KV-cache footprint | One-quarter of the previous generation’s HBM requirement | Could reduce high-bandwidth-memory pressure in long or concurrent sessions. |
| KV-cache storage | One-eighth of the previous generation’s SSD requirement | Could lower cache-storage demand for serving workloads. |
The parameter count alone is not a hardware specification. The active-parameter figures and smaller cache footprint describe how inference may be organized, but deployment speed and capacity still depend on the serving stack, precision, batch size, context length and concurrency.
What large-scale deployment may require
DeepSeek’s September announcement invited organizations planning a deployment with 2,000 GPUs plus a storage cluster to discuss the project. That statement describes a large-scale planning scenario, not a published minimum requirement for using the API or chat applications. It signals that organizations running the model themselves should budget for substantial accelerator, networking, storage and operations capacity and validate those requirements against their intended traffic.

How to interpret the “cheaper” claim
DeepSeek says shorter outputs and runtimes can let users complete work at lower cost and higher speed. The unchanged API pricing means the listed rate structure did not change in the October 17 notice; savings, if realized, come from using fewer output tokens or finishing work with fewer or shorter calls. Measure this separately for coding, tool-using agents and multimodal requests, because token use and tool behavior vary sharply by workload.

- Established by DeepSeek’s announcement: the model name is V4.1-Flash-1017, web and app models were updated, API callers use
deepseek-flash, and the announced calling method and pricing remain unchanged. - Reported but not independently verified: the benchmark scores, shorter runtimes and reduced output lengths.
- Still workload-dependent: actual latency, total spend, reliability of tool calls, context handling and the hardware needed for self-hosting.
For teams already using deepseek-flash, the update is designed to be operationally simple: continue using the same API alias, then verify the new behavior against your own acceptance tests rather than assuming every task will improve by the same amount.
