Its published minimum is modest—4 GB of RAM, 1 GB of storage, and OpenGL 2.0-capable graphics on Windows or Linux—but Steam currently labels its Steam Deck compatibility Unknown. That means Valve has not checked or certified the demo; you should not assume Deck controls, text size, frame rate, or stability will work without testing.
Deep Siren Demo requirements at a glance
The following are the minimum specifications shown on the Steam listing for the demo. They describe the operating systems and hardware the developer lists as a baseline, not a performance guarantee. The demo requires about 1 GB of free storage on every listed platform.

Operating system and processor
Windows users need a 64-bit operating system. The CPU floor is either a 2.5 GHz single-core processor or a 2 GHz dual-core processor. Clock speed alone does not tell you how a modern processor will perform, but a computer that comfortably meets these specifications should clear the listed CPU requirement.

Memory and graphics
The demo lists 4 GB of system RAM. Its graphics requirement is a 3D card compatible with OpenGL 2.0 and equipped with 1 GB of graphics memory. The same entry also calls for DirectX 9.0. The listing does not provide a recommended specification, target frame rate, resolution, or quality preset, so meeting the minimum cannot establish how high you can set visual options.
Storage and sound
Reserve at least 1 GB of free disk space for the demo. Leave additional room for Steam’s download and update process rather than filling a drive to the exact minimum. Audio is listed as a DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card with the latest drivers.
macOS requirements and limitations
The macOS entry requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer, an Intel 2 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 1 GB of available storage. Steam does not state a separate graphics API, graphics-memory target, or audio requirement for this entry. Because the listing specifies an Intel processor, do not treat the minimum as confirmation that every Apple-silicon configuration is supported natively. The evidence available for the demo does not establish native Apple-silicon support, translation-layer behavior, or expected performance.

Linux requirements
Supported distributions named by Steam
The Linux minimum names Ubuntu 14.04 and Mint 17 or later. Those versions are old, so a newer distribution may be the practical choice, but the listing does not promise compatibility with every current kernel, desktop environment, driver stack, or distribution. Your system still needs either a 2.5 GHz single-core or 2 GHz dual-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, OpenGL 2.0 graphics with 1 GB of graphics memory, and 1 GB of free storage.
Audio and graphics drivers
Linux audio must be OpenAL-compatible. Graphics support depends on a working OpenGL 2.0 driver; having a physically capable GPU is not enough if the installed driver exposes an incomplete or software-rendered implementation. If the demo launches with missing graphics, severe slowdown, or no sound, verify the vendor driver and OpenAL installation before assuming the game itself is broken.
Can Deep Siren run on Steam Deck?
Steam currently shows the demo’s exact status as “Steam Deck Compatibility — Unknown.” Valve defines that state as: “Unknown: We haven’t checked this game for compatibility yet.” In practical terms, there is no official Deck certification for this listing at the time covered here.

Unknown is not the same as Verified, Playable, Unsupported, or a developer guarantee. The status does not establish that the demo will install, start, recognize the built-in controls, display readable text, run at a stable frame rate, or behave correctly through SteamOS and Proton. It also does not prove that the demo fails; it means Valve has not supplied a compatibility result.
What Valve normally checks
Valve’s Verified guidance includes controller input, supported Steam Deck display resolutions, sensible default settings, and legible in-game text. Because this demo has not received that rating in the researched Steam listing, those criteria remain unconfirmed. A mouse-and-keyboard requirement, tiny interface text, launcher problem, video issue, or unstable frame pacing could all exist without appearing in the Unknown label.
How to test it responsibly
- Open the demo’s Steam store page on your Deck and check the compatibility badge immediately before installing. The status can change after a developer update or Valve review.
- Install only if you have enough free internal or removable storage. The listing calls for 1 GB, but retaining extra space helps Steam unpack and update the files.
- Launch from Game Mode first. Check whether the opening menus respond to the built-in controls and whether text is readable at the Deck’s display resolution.
- Play through several minutes of movement, the eye-closing puzzle mechanic, dialogue, audio, and any transition between scenes. A title that opens is not necessarily fully functional.
- If controls are incomplete, try a community or desktop control layout only as an experiment; that is not evidence of official support.
- Record what fails before changing settings. Note the Proton version, display mode, symptoms, and whether the issue occurs in Game Mode, Desktop Mode, or both.
These steps can tell you how the demo behaves on your particular Deck, but they cannot turn an Unknown listing into a Valve certification.

Demo requirements versus the planned full game
Do not use the full game’s specification as a substitute for the demo’s current minimum. The separate full-game listing plans a Q2 2027 release and lists 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of storage for Windows and SteamOS + Linux. The demo listing, by contrast, lists 1 GB of storage. The larger full-game storage figure may reflect additional content, but the available listing does not explain the difference.
| Edition | Release information | Windows minimum shown | SteamOS + Linux minimum shown | Storage shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Siren Demo | Released September 27, 2026 | 4 GB RAM; other requirements in the platform table above | 4 GB RAM; other requirements in the platform table above | 1 GB |
| Deep Siren full game | Planned Q2 2027 | 4 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM | 5 GB |
The full game’s future requirements can change before release. For a decision about downloading today, use the demo listing rather than projecting the full game’s 5 GB figure backward onto the demo.

Steam describes Deep Siren as a Lovecraftian World War II horror fairytale. The survivor of the U.S.S. Siren encounters a mermaid and enters an underwater supernatural-horror world. The demo combines hand-drawn presentation, puzzles, full voiceover, a soundtrack, cosmetic unlocks, and an eye-closing puzzle mechanic.

That context matters when judging the Unknown Deck status. A game can meet low PC specifications yet still need reliable controller navigation, readable subtitles, correct video playback, and responsive input for its puzzles. The published hardware minimums tell you whether your computer is in the supported range; they do not answer those user-experience questions.
Checking your PC before downloading
Windows checklist
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit in Settings or System Information.
- Check installed RAM and make sure at least 4 GB is available to the system.
- Identify the graphics adapter and verify that its driver exposes OpenGL 2.0 and has at least 1 GB of graphics memory.
- Confirm that at least 1 GB of disk space is free, preferably with extra room for Steam’s temporary files.
- Update the sound-card driver if Windows reports an outdated device.
Linux checklist
- Check that your distribution is Ubuntu 14.04, Mint 17, or a later release.
- Verify 4 GB of RAM, 1 GB of free storage, and a working OpenGL 2.0 graphics driver with 1 GB of graphics memory.
- Confirm that OpenAL is available to applications.
- Use the GPU vendor’s recommended Linux driver rather than relying on a fallback software renderer.
Mac checklist
- Confirm macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
- Check that the Mac has an Intel 2 GHz dual-core processor or better.
- Verify at least 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of free storage.
- Because the listing does not state Apple-silicon behavior or a separate graphics requirement, treat non-Intel configurations as an uncertainty rather than an established compatibility case.
Troubleshooting when the demo does not work
It will not launch
Recheck the operating-system requirement, update graphics and audio drivers, and verify the installation through Steam. On Linux or SteamOS, confirm that OpenGL is provided by the intended GPU driver and that OpenAL is installed. On Deck, try the default compatibility configuration before changing Proton versions so you can distinguish a configuration change from a game update.
The picture is missing or extremely slow
Check whether the system is using a software renderer or an integrated adapter with an incomplete driver. The listed OpenGL 2.0 requirement is a baseline API requirement, not a promise of good performance on every adapter that technically exposes it. Lowering resolution or effects may help if the demo offers those controls, but the listing does not state which graphics settings are available.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Controls or text are difficult on Deck
Return to the compatibility badge and treat the issue as an unverified Deck behavior. Test the desktop interface and any in-game control options, then report the exact symptom through the game’s Steam support channels. Do not describe a community layout or a temporary workaround as official controller support.
No sound
On Windows, install the latest driver for the DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound device. On Linux, check OpenAL and the selected output device. If other applications play sound normally but the demo does not, capture the game’s audio error and operating-system version when seeking help.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each platform
- Windows: A 64-bit system with the listed 4 GB RAM, OpenGL 2.0/1 GB graphics, DirectX 9.0, sound support, and 1 GB free storage meets the published minimum.
- macOS: Catalina or later, an Intel 2 GHz dual-core CPU, 4 GB RAM, and 1 GB storage meet the stated minimum; graphics and Apple-silicon behavior are not fully specified.
- Linux: Ubuntu 14.04 or Mint 17 and later are named, with OpenGL 2.0 graphics, OpenAL audio, 4 GB RAM, and 1 GB storage.
- Steam Deck: Compatibility is currently Unknown, so installation and playability remain unverified rather than guaranteed or ruled out.
