What is Deep Siren?
Deep Siren is described officially as “a Lovecraftian World War II horror fairytale.” You play Alexander Calder, the lone survivor of the U.S.S. Siren. After drifting at sea, Calder encounters a mermaid and is drawn into a supernatural world beneath the waves. Survival means dealing with hostile creatures, exploring an alien environment, solving difficult puzzles and uncovering secrets while his grip on reality deteriorates.

Dionous Games’ own game page still uses the broader year “2026,” but Steam’s listing provides the more specific current schedule for the demo and the Q2 2027 plan for the full release. The developer also published a Windows demo file measuring 684 MB on itch.io on September 13, 2026 at 12:53 UTC. Those dates describe platform publication timestamps; they do not establish that the Steam and itch.io builds are identical.

The researched official pages do not confirm that the demo is part of a named Steam Next Fest. The demo’s Steam release is confirmed independently, so readers should treat any Next Fest connection as unverified until the developer or Steam announces one.
What kind of horror game is it?
Psychological and supernatural horror
Deep Siren uses two overlapping forms of horror. Supernatural threats include the mermaid, creatures and an alien technology-filled environment. Psychological horror comes from Calder’s uncertain perception: the game repeatedly asks whether a scene is genuine, distorted by his failing sanity or hiding something the player has not yet understood.

Underwater exploration and puzzles
The ocean setting is more than visual decoration. Players explore submerged locations, navigate an unfamiliar world and solve puzzles that can block progress. Official descriptions emphasize challenging puzzles and discovery rather than combat statistics or open-world systems.
A hand-drawn pulp presentation
Artwork is hand-drawn and comic-book-like, with influences from pulpy science fiction and classic creature features. That presentation gives the game a stylized identity instead of pursuing photorealistic underwater horror. Full voiceover, immersive sound and an original movie-quality soundtrack are intended to carry the story and atmosphere.

How does the eye-closing sanity mechanic work?
The eye-closing system is Deep Siren’s signature perception puzzle. At key moments, the player closes Calder’s eyes to compare what can be seen with eyes shut against the apparent scene in front of them. The contrast helps determine whether an object, threat or event is real, altered by Calder’s condition or concealing another clue.
It is not presented as a conventional health meter that can be replenished with an item. Instead, the mechanic turns perception into an interaction: deciding when to look, when to shut Calder’s eyes and how to interpret the difference. Because the official material does not publish a complete ruleset, it is safest to regard the demo as the first hands-on explanation of how often the system appears and how much it changes puzzle-solving.

What does the demo include?
Dionous Games says the demo provides a focused slice of Alexander’s story. It covers:
- The wreck of the U.S.S. Siren.
- Alexander’s first fateful encounter beneath the waves.
- A glimpse of the horrors waiting deeper underwater.
The studio says it built this slice to show the direction of the full game and gather player reactions. Feedback is specifically invited on what grabs players, what unsettles them and where they become stuck. That makes the demo both an introduction and a development checkpoint, not a claim that the complete campaign is represented.

- Select the free demo option and install the Windows build.
- Play through the wreck, the first underwater encounter and the available puzzle sequence.

No sales, player-count, review-score or performance statistics have been independently published in the official material available for this announcement. What to expect from the full release
If the current plan holds, the Q2 2027 game will expand the story introduced by the demo: Calder’s survival, the mysteries beneath the sea and the conflict between observable reality and his unstable perception. The confirmed pillars are exploration, puzzles, supernatural danger, psychological uncertainty and a strongly illustrated presentation. Details such as final price, additional platforms, campaign length and system requirements have not been established by the cited official pages.
