There is no defensible single “best” dedicated host for every buyer. The right choice depends on your workload, required memory and storage, customer location, network design, management responsibility, support response, contract term, and the complete price after setup fees, tax, licenses, backups, and bandwidth conditions. This comparison covers OVHcloud, Hetzner, IONOS, Liquid Web, and Leaseweb as a practical shortlist, but the exact five-provider lineup and target geography were not fixed by the available evidence.
Use the workload matrix and verification checklist below to reduce the shortlist, then price the same hardware and service assumptions in the provider’s live order system. Published entry prices and workload labels are useful starting points, not proof of equivalent performance or value.

What a dedicated server gives you
A dedicated server is a physical machine reserved for one customer. IONOS describes the installed resources as exclusive to that user, while Leaseweb describes its dedicated servers as physical and single-tenant. You avoid the noisy-neighbor contention possible on shared or virtualized plans and can choose the operating system, storage layout, network design, and software stack within the host’s rules.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Dedicated” does not mean every service is managed for you. A host may operate the chassis, power, upstream network, and replacement process while you patch the operating system, secure applications, configure databases, and restore backups. Managed tiers can shift some of those duties back to the provider, usually at a higher recurring price. Contract definitions also differ: an uptime percentage may apply to a network, a power feed, or a specific service component rather than to your complete application.

Workload names are provider descriptions, not independent benchmark results. OVHcloud labels its Game range for gaming and streaming and its Scale range for complex, high-resilience infrastructure. Leaseweb lists general-purpose, high-performance, bandwidth, gaming, storage, and GPU ranges. Treat those labels as ways to find candidate configurations, then inspect the exact CPU, memory, drives, ports, traffic policy, and support scope.
Quick workload matrix
| Primary requirement | Providers or ranges to investigate first | What must be verified before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Game server or live streaming | OVHcloud Game; Leaseweb gaming range; IONOS game-server use case | Single-core performance, player-region latency, DDoS mitigation scope, public port speed, traffic terms, and console access |
| GPU or parallel compute | Leaseweb GPU range; Hetzner GPU catalog; IONOS plans that permit the required virtualization model | Exact GPU model and quantity, VRAM, PCIe layout, driver support, hourly or monthly billing, and regional inventory |
| Large datasets or storage | Leaseweb storage range; OVHcloud High Grade for hot-swap requirements | Drive type, usable capacity after redundancy, IOPS, replacement procedure, backup architecture, and rebuild time |
| High-bandwidth delivery | Leaseweb bandwidth range; OVHcloud Scale or High Grade | Port speed, traffic or fair-use wording, private-network capacity, DDoS limits, and egress pricing |
| High-resilience infrastructure | OVHcloud Scale or High Grade; Liquid Web managed tiers | SLA definition, power and network redundancy, maintenance notice, hardware replacement, and whether applications are covered |
| Teams that need operational help | Liquid Web managed tiers; IONOS with your own administration plan; Leaseweb support after plan confirmation | Who patches the OS, handles incidents, restores backups, and responds outside business hours |
This matrix narrows the search; it does not rank providers. No neutral, controlled benchmark comparing these five hosts was established, so claims about fastest CPUs, lowest latency, or superior application performance would be unsupported.
Provider-by-provider fit
OVHcloud: clearly separated ranges and published network targets
OVHcloud publishes four relevant bare-metal families on its US product page. The figures below are provider-published specifications and SLA labels, not independent measurements. Starting prices were observed on an undated page crawled in October 2026 and can change with inventory, region, and configuration.
Recommended Free Tools
| Range | Provider-described workload | Maximum memory stated | Published SLA | Public bandwidth | Private bandwidth | Notable features | Starting price shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Advance | Small and medium businesses | Up to 1 TB | 99.95% | 1–5 Gbps | 1–6 Gbps | General business configurations | $98/month |
| Game | Video games and streaming platforms | Up to 256 GB | 99.5% | 1 Gbps | Not stated | Anti-DDoS Game | $79/month |
| Scale | Complex, high-resilience infrastructure | Up to 1.5 TB | 99.99% | 1–10 Gbps | Not stated | Dual power supplies | $689/month |
| High Grade | Critical loads | Up to 2 TB | 99.99% | 1–10 Gbps | Not stated | Hot-swap disks | $1,263/month |
OVHcloud also advertises, in its own words, “Unlimited traffic on all our servers.” That is vendor marketing language, not a guarantee that every plan has unlimited port capacity or unrestricted use. Check the exact SKU’s port speed, traffic policy, abuse rules, and any fair-use or private-network conditions.
The range availability page shows that inventory and certification options vary by region. A configuration visible in one data center may be unavailable in another, and certifications can be subject to local availability. Choose the customer-facing region first, then confirm the exact server and network profile.
Hetzner: a candidate that requires live-catalog verification
The official material available for this comparison confirms dedicated root servers and current GPU-server announcements, but it did not expose enough current plan detail to compare Hetzner fairly with the other four providers. Current locations, setup fees, memory, traffic terms, support scope, and workload specifications must be checked in the live dedicated-server catalog for your country.
A provider-authored comparison by Server Room reported Hetzner about $117/month — Server Room, September 2026, with 64 GB of RAM and setup fees that vary substantially. That is a dated lead, not a confirmed current quote or a like-for-like value conclusion. The comparison warns that entry machines differ in size and that prices change. Do not carry the figure into a budget without reproducing the same region, term, storage, traffic, and support assumptions.

IONOS: broad use cases and recovery access
IONOS positions its dedicated servers for web servers, email-marketing platforms, game servers, video streaming, forums and communities, and online-store development. It states that Linux can be administered over encrypted SSH and Windows over RDP. A KVM VNC console provides a path into the machine when a network or firewall change blocks normal remote access, which is useful during recovery.

IONOS says virtualization is possible on plans using Intel Scalable and AMD EPYC processors, but also says Hyper-V cannot currently be used with those dedicated plans under Microsoft licensing terms. Verify the exact processor model, permitted hypervisors, and current licensing restriction before designing a virtual-machine host.
IONOS explicitly states that 100% DDoS protection is not currently possible. Treat its mitigation as a risk-reduction feature, not an absolute security promise. Ask what attack sizes and protocols are covered, what traffic is scrubbed, how alerts are delivered, and what escalation path exists during an attack.
Liquid Web: management choice is the main differentiator
Liquid Web describes single-tenant hardware, hardware customization, Linux or Windows options, and managed or self-managed tiers. That model is relevant when your team wants dedicated resources but does not want to own every operating-system, patching, and incident-response task.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe provider’s 2026 guide presents a “100% network” uptime claim and compares management and uptime values for several providers. Those are vendor-published representations, not independent evidence of application uptime or a controlled reliability test. Read the contract definition, exclusions, maintenance terms, and remedy before treating any percentage as a service guarantee.
For a managed deployment, obtain a written scope covering OS updates, firewall changes, malware response, backups, database support, monitoring, emergency work, and response targets. For a self-managed deployment, budget engineering time for those tasks even if the hardware is fully supported.
Leaseweb: configurable categories and operational controls
Leaseweb describes its servers as physical and single-tenant and offers general-purpose, high-performance, bandwidth, gaming, storage, and GPU categories. Buyers can customize RAM, disks, and bandwidth, and monthly contracts are available. This can suit a workload that does not fit a fixed entry configuration, but customization makes headline prices especially difficult to compare.
The Customer Portal and API support operational actions such as reboots, operating-system reloads, rescue mode, IP management, and private networking. Those controls can shorten recovery time when you have a documented runbook. Leaseweb describes 24/7 technical support, but confirm the exact response target, escalation level, and whether staff assist with the operating system or only the platform and network.
Leaseweb says GPU servers target parallel and intensive workloads. Its monitoring add-on is enabled for dedicated-server customers in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Verify regional inventory and the precise monitoring terms for your proposed configuration.

How to compare configurations without fooling yourself
1. Match the compute profile
Identify whether the application is limited by per-core speed, total core count, memory capacity, GPU acceleration, or storage I/O. A game simulation may need strong single-thread performance and predictable latency; a rendering or machine-learning queue may need many cores or a specific GPU; an in-memory database may be constrained by RAM before CPU. Compare the exact processor generation, core and thread count, clock behavior, memory channels, and upgrade path rather than a family name such as “high performance.”
2. Compare storage by behavior, not just terabytes
Record drive type (NVMe SSD, SATA SSD, or HDD), usable capacity after RAID or other redundancy, expected read/write pattern, endurance, and replacement terms. Read-heavy indexes, write-heavy logs, and bulk archives need different layouts. OVHcloud highlights hot-swap disks on High Grade. Leaseweb names a storage-server category and NVMe options. Neither label tells you the usable IOPS or rebuild time for your chosen SKU, so request those details or design your own measurement plan after deployment.
3. Separate public, private, and traffic capacity
Public port speed affects client traffic; private bandwidth affects replication, clustering, and backup transfers. Ask whether the quoted speed is guaranteed, shared, burstable, or limited by a traffic policy. OVHcloud publishes different public and private bandwidth ranges by product family, and availability differs by region. A statement about unlimited traffic does not make a 1 Gbps port equivalent to a 10 Gbps port, nor does it remove congestion or abuse controls.
4. Put the users near the data center
Select a region based on customer latency, data-residency obligations, peering, and recovery geography. Do not assume a provider offers the same inventory or certifications everywhere. If you need a second site, price replication bandwidth and a standby server rather than relying on a single machine’s SLA.
5. Define management and response boundaries
Write down who owns each task: initial hardening, OS and kernel patches, application updates, firewall rules, backups, restore tests, certificate renewal, monitoring, and incident communications. Liquid Web exposes managed and self-managed tiers. Leaseweb provides technical support and operational controls, but the exact assistance level is plan-specific. A 24/7 support desk is not automatically 24/7 application administration.
6. Read the resilience language
Compare the SLA percentage, measurement interval, exclusions, scheduled-maintenance rules, power feeds, network paths, hardware-replacement process, and credit limits. OVHcloud publishes 99.95% for Advance, 99.5% for Game, and 99.99% for both Scale and High Grade. Those are range labels from OVHcloud; consult the contract to determine what component is measured. Liquid Web’s guide highlights a network uptime guarantee, which should not be rewritten as guaranteed application availability.
Pricing: normalize the whole bill
Entry prices are not apples-to-apples because providers start with different CPUs, memory sizes, storage, traffic allowances, locations, and support levels. A September 2026 comparison by Server Room says its rivals’ published list prices were checked in that month, before VAT where applicable, and warns that machines differ in size. Server Room sells dedicated servers, so treat its figures as commercially interested, dated reference points rather than neutral market rankings.

Gaming and streaming
Start with CPU responsiveness, memory headroom for concurrent sessions, regional latency, and DDoS mitigation. OVHcloud’s Game range is explicitly positioned for games and streaming and publishes a 99.5% SLA, up to 256 GB memory, Anti-DDoS Game, and 1 Gbps public bandwidth. Leaseweb has a gaming category, while IONOS lists game servers among its use cases. Ask each provider for the exact processor, player-location routing, attack mitigation limits, and traffic terms. A provider label does not establish frame-rate consistency or tick-rate performance.
GPU and parallel workloads
Specify the software framework, GPU model, VRAM, number of cards, interconnect, driver version, and whether workloads run continuously or in bursts. Leaseweb lists GPU servers for parallel and intensive workloads, and Hetzner’s official homepage includes current GPU-server announcements, but current plan details must be verified in the live catalogs. Confirm PCIe topology, cooling, remote-console access, storage throughput, and whether the provider permits your virtualization or passthrough design.
Storage and data-heavy services
Choose redundancy and recovery objectives before capacity. A storage server with many disks may be cheaper per terabyte but slower to rebuild; NVMe may deliver low latency at higher cost. Leaseweb’s storage category and NVMe options, and OVHcloud High Grade’s hot-swap emphasis, are starting points. Obtain usable capacity, RAID controller or software-RAID details, drive replacement SLA, and a backup plan independent of the primary chassis.
High-bandwidth delivery
Measure sustained and peak egress, concurrent connections, protocol mix, and geographic distribution. OVHcloud Scale and High Grade publish 1–10 Gbps public bandwidth ranges; Advance publishes 1–5 Gbps; Game publishes 1 Gbps. Leaseweb offers a bandwidth category. Verify port commitment, traffic inclusion, fair-use language, DDoS handling, private-network capacity, and whether a second port or redundant path is available.
Managed, compliance-sensitive, or small-team deployments
Liquid Web’s managed tiers are aimed at customers who want provider involvement around demanding or compliance-sensitive workloads, while IONOS supplies SSH, RDP, and KVM VNC access for administration and recovery. Compare the written responsibility matrix, logging and access controls, patch windows, backup retention, and incident-response commitments. A compliance claim attached to a data center or certification may vary by region and must be confirmed for the exact server.
Ordering and migration checklist
- Document the workload. Record CPU utilization, peak memory, storage I/O, traffic, latency targets, operating system, licenses, and growth over the next 12–24 months.
- Choose the region and recovery design. Select the primary data center, a backup location if required, and the replication bandwidth between them.
- Request like-for-like quotes. Include the same RAM, drives, RAID, port, traffic, support, backups, term, and tax assumptions.
- Read the service definitions. Confirm what the SLA measures, what maintenance is excluded, how hardware replacement works, and what support can change on your behalf.
- Test access before cutover. Validate SSH or RDP, KVM or rescue access, reverse DNS, firewall behavior, IPv6, private networking, monitoring, and alert delivery.
- Harden the operating system. Disable unused services, enforce key-based or strong authentication, restrict management ports, patch the OS, and separate administrative accounts.
- Build and test backups. Keep at least one copy outside the server, encrypt it, set retention, and perform a restore of the database and application—not merely a file listing.
- Load-test safely. Use a staging environment or an agreed window, define success metrics, and monitor CPU, memory, disk latency, packet loss, and application errors. Do not treat a short synthetic test as a neutral cross-provider benchmark.
- Cut over with rollback. Lower DNS TTL in advance, synchronize data, switch traffic, monitor logs and latency, and keep the old system available until the rollback window closes.
Common failure modes and fixes
- Comparing entry prices that contain different hardware. Rebuild the quote with identical memory, storage, traffic, region, and support assumptions.
- Assuming a provider manages the application. Obtain a task-by-task responsibility matrix; purchase a managed tier or retain an administrator for uncovered work.
- Confusing network SLA with application uptime. Read the measured component and exclusions, then add application monitoring and a recovery plan.
- Choosing a region before checking inventory. Verify the exact SKU, certification, IP availability, and private-network options in the required location.
- Relying on “unlimited” traffic language. Confirm port speed, fair-use rules, abuse controls, and whether traffic is truly unmetered for that plan.
- Using DDoS protection as a complete security strategy. Combine mitigation with firewalls, rate limits, patched software, upstream redundancy, and an incident runbook; IONOS notes that 100% DDoS protection is not currently possible.
- Virtualizing without checking licensing. Verify the processor, hypervisor support, nested-virtualization or passthrough requirements, and Microsoft licensing conditions before purchase.
- Skipping recovery access. Confirm KVM, rescue mode, OS reload, and remote reboot procedures while the server is healthy, then document credentials and escalation contacts.
Bottom line
Choose by workload and operating responsibility, not by a universal ranking. OVHcloud offers the clearest published range distinctions and bandwidth/SLA figures; Leaseweb is worth investigating when you need configurable storage, GPU, gaming, or bandwidth profiles and portal/API controls; IONOS emphasizes broad use cases and recovery access; Liquid Web is most relevant when managed versus self-managed service is the central decision; and Hetzner remains a candidate whose current configuration and price must be verified directly. Confirm every SKU, region, SLA, support boundary, and total cost before committing, because the available evidence does not support an objective “best overall” winner.
