Deadlock reached a reported all-time peak of 236,730 concurrent players on October 6, 2026—the day Baba the Pigeon Lady became available. The timing links the milestone to her release, but it does not show that Baba alone caused the record.
What happened in Deadlock on October 6?
Valve’s October 6 update added Baba, whom it describes as “New York’s notorious pigeon lady.” The update announced, “Baba and her pigeons are available now!” (Deadlock update notes.)

The character’s theme carries into her combat kit: the update describes Threadsap, a living bench, tea, and pigeons among her tools. Those details make her a substantial character addition, not simply a cosmetic release. (Deadlock update notes.)

SteamDB reported an all-time peak of 236,730 concurrent players on October 6, 2026. That is a third-party tracker’s count of players online at the same time, not a measure of unique players, registered accounts, or game owners. (SteamDB charts.)

Was Baba’s release the reason for the record?
The sources establish that Baba’s release and the player peak occurred on the same date, but they do not isolate the effect of her arrival. Deadlock’s player activity was already rising: GamesRadar reported that the game surpassed 228,000 concurrent players on September 30, after an earlier major update brought gameplay changes and six new characters. (GamesRadar.)
That earlier high is important context. Baba may have helped draw attention, but the October 6 peak could also reflect the wider update cycle, other new content, publicity, or ordinary fluctuations in player activity. The available figures do not establish which factor mattered most.
