The three-item DLC Bundle stops before Return to Castlevania. Rise of the Giant is free, while the physical Prisoner’s Edition is a collector set with only The Bad Seed access among the paid expansions.
Dead Cells editions at a glance
The most important distinction is between the digital bundles and the collector-focused physical release. Digital stores separate the free expansion from four paid expansions, while the physical Prisoner’s Edition combines a boxed game, one DLC entitlement and memorabilia rather than every expansion.

Which Dead Cells DLC exists, and which is free?
Rise of the Giant is free
Nintendo’s catalogue labels Rise of the Giant as a “Free download.” It is separate from the paid DLC Bundle, so seeing a three-item paid bundle does not mean the free expansion is missing from the game. The catalogue’s free designation is the relevant distinction: there is no additional purchase price shown for this expansion in that listing.

The four paid expansions
The paid catalogue consists of The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea, and Return to Castlevania. Nintendo’s current US list prices show $4.99 for each of the first three and $9.99 for Return to Castlevania. Those are list prices for the US Nintendo listing, not a guarantee of the price on another storefront or in another country.
Buying the four expansions individually at those listed prices would total $24.96 before tax. That arithmetic is useful for judging a discount, but it does not establish the price of a Steam bundle or any temporary sale. Prices and promotions should be checked on the store page at checkout.
What each paid expansion adds
The Bad Seed
The Bad Seed is an alternate route beginning early in a run and includes an alternate first-boss path. The bosses reference identifies Mama Tick as its alternate first boss. It is therefore aimed at players who want a different opening route rather than a late-game conclusion. It is one of the three items in the standard DLC Bundle and the only paid expansion listed with the Prisoner’s Edition.
Fatal Falls
Fatal Falls supplies an alternate mid-game route. The bosses reference identifies The Scarecrow as its alternate second boss. Its placement makes it a route-expansion purchase for players who have the base game and want another way through the middle of a run. It is included in the three-item DLC Bundle, the five-item Medley of Pain Bundle and the Medley bundle with soundtracks.
The Queen and the Sea
Released for PC and consoles on January 6, 2022, The Queen and the Sea is the late-game expansion. It adds three areas—Infested Shipwreck, Lighthouse and The Crown—along with new enemies, a boss, outfits, gear and an alternate ending. The three-area structure matters when choosing a bundle: this is not merely a cosmetic add-on, but a late-run branch with its own conclusion.
It is included in the DLC Bundle, Medley of Pain Bundle and Medley of Pain Bundle + OST. It is not listed in the contents of the Prisoner’s Edition.

Return to Castlevania

The bosses reference identifies Death, Dracula and Dracula Final Form among its major boss encounters. It is the expansion most often missed by buyers who stop at the three-item DLC Bundle.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The presence of this expansion is the dividing line between the DLC Bundle and the complete Medley package: the former has the first three paid expansions, while the latter adds Return to Castlevania and includes the base game.
Does the DLC Bundle include Return to Castlevania?
No. Steam itemizes the DLC Bundle as exactly three items: Dead Cells: The Bad Seed, Dead Cells: Fatal Falls and Dead Cells: The Queen and the Sea. Return to Castlevania is not part of that product.
If you already own the base game and purchase the DLC Bundle, you receive those three listed expansions. Add Return to Castlevania separately if you want every paid expansion. If you are starting without the base game, the itemized three-DLC package should not be treated as a complete game purchase; the Steam listing for the Medley bundle is the one that explicitly includes Dead Cells itself.
What is in the complete digital bundle?
Medley of Pain Bundle
Steam lists five items in the Medley of Pain Bundle:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Dead Cells
- The Bad Seed
- Fatal Falls
- The Queen and the Sea
- Return to Castlevania
That list makes it the complete paid-DLC digital package described here. It is the straightforward choice for a new digital buyer who wants the base game and all four paid expansions in one purchase. Regional pricing and discounts vary, so the bundle’s live store total—not a price from another territory—should be used for a current cost comparison.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Medley of Pain Bundle + OST
The soundtrack version contains the same five game and DLC items, then adds three digital soundtrack products:
- Dead Cells Soundtrack
- Demake Soundtrack
- Return to Castlevania Soundtrack
These soundtrack entries are extras, not additional playable content. Choose this version only when you want the music releases as well as the complete game and DLC. If your priority is gameplay, the five-item Medley bundle already contains the relevant game content.
What comes in the Prisoner’s Edition?
The official description presents the Prisoner’s Edition as a collector-oriented physical set built around the Action Game of the Year package. It is not a complete-DLC edition. Its listed contents are:
- A 22 cm (8.5 in) Prisoner figurine
- An embossed collector’s tin
- Three enamel pins
- Four metallic stickers
- An exclusive art card
- A numbered certificate
- A two-track orange seven-inch vinyl record
- A physical copy of Action Game of the Year
- A bonus artbook
- A keyring
- Access to The Bad Seed DLC
The set’s physical appeal is clear, but its DLC entitlement is limited. The contents list does not include Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea or Return to Castlevania. A collector who buys this edition and later wants every paid expansion must budget for those missing releases separately.
Physical editions and platform details
The official products page lists the Action Game of the Year Edition as a physical Nintendo Switch release from 2019 and also presents physical platform editions and soundtrack products. That date describes the listed physical release; it should not be read as the release date of every later expansion.
The digital bundle information comes from Steam, while the list prices and free-download label cited above come from Nintendo’s catalogue. These listings describe different storefronts and regions. A Nintendo price cannot be assumed to be the Steam price, and a physical package’s contents cannot be inferred from a digital bundle name.

The Queen and the Sea’s January 6, 2022 release is documented for PC and consoles. Return to Castlevania’s 2023 catalogue date likewise identifies it as a later release than the 2019 physical Action Game of the Year edition, which explains why the older collector set does not list it.
Which edition should you buy?
You already own the base game
Choose the three-item DLC Bundle if your target is The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls and The Queen and the Sea. This is the package Steam itemizes for those three expansions. Add Return to Castlevania separately when you decide you want the crossover content as well.
If you already own one or more of those expansions, check the store’s ownership-aware price and item list before buying a bundle. The key check is whether the transaction would duplicate content you already have; the bundle name alone does not tell you which items your account still needs.
You are buying digitally for the first time
Select the Medley of Pain Bundle when the goal is the base game plus all four paid expansions. Its five-item list is explicit, so it avoids the common mistake of buying the three-item DLC Bundle and then discovering that Return to Castlevania is separate.
Choose Medley of Pain Bundle + OST instead when the three listed soundtracks matter to you. The extra soundtrack items do not change the playable content.
You want a boxed collector set
The Prisoner’s Edition is the appropriate fit for the figurine, tin, pins, stickers, art card, certificate, vinyl, artbook and keyring. Treat its DLC as a bonus entitlement to The Bad Seed, not as a substitute for the complete digital collection. Plan separate purchases for the three paid expansions absent from its contents list.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
You want only the core experience first
Start with the base game if you want to sample the original game before committing to expansions. The paid DLC is sold separately, and Rise of the Giant is identified by Nintendo as a free download. This path keeps the initial purchase limited while leaving the paid routes available later.
How to compare the real cost
Use the following order when checking a listing:
- Confirm whether the product includes the base game. The Medley of Pain Bundle does; the three-item DLC Bundle is itemized as DLC only.
- Read the individual item list rather than relying on the word “complete.” Verify that all four paid expansions appear by name.
- Check the storefront and country. The $4.99, $9.99 and $11.99 figures cited here are current US Nintendo list prices, while Steam’s regional pricing can differ.
- Account for content you already own. A bundle can be convenient, but its value depends on how many listed items are new to your account.
- Separate gameplay from extras. Soundtracks and physical memorabilia add ownership value but do not add playable biomes, bosses or endings.
For a US Nintendo reference point, the first three paid expansions are each listed at $4.99, Return to Castlevania at $9.99, and the three-item DLC Bundle at $11.99. These figures can change and do not establish the price of a physical collector set or a Steam promotion.
Common buying mistakes
Mistaking free DLC for paid bundle content
Rise of the Giant is free in Nintendo’s catalogue. It is not one of the three paid items in the DLC Bundle and does not need to be added to a paid bundle for the catalogue to be complete.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAssuming “DLC Bundle” means all DLC
The three-item label is literal: it contains The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls and The Queen and the Sea. Because Return to Castlevania arrived later, it is outside that package.
Assuming the collector edition is the final edition
The Prisoner’s Edition is a physical collector set with The Bad Seed access. Its listed contents do not include the later paid expansions. The figurine and vinyl are not indicators that every digital release is on the cartridge or in the box.
Counting soundtracks as game expansions
The OST bundle adds three soundtrack products to the same five game and DLC items. It increases the number of digital products in the package, not the number of playable expansions.
A practical purchase checklist
- Need everything playable? Confirm that the listing names Dead Cells and all four paid expansions.
- Already own the game? Confirm whether the three-item DLC Bundle covers exactly the first three paid expansions you want.
- Want the Castlevania crossover? Look specifically for Return to Castlevania; it is absent from the DLC Bundle.
- Want the late-game alternate ending? Make sure The Queen and the Sea appears in the purchase. Its areas are Infested Shipwreck, Lighthouse and The Crown.
- Want physical memorabilia? Check that the listing is the Prisoner’s Edition and verify the box contents and stock before ordering.
- Want music? Choose the Medley of Pain Bundle + OST only if the three soundtrack items are worth the additional cost.
- Comparing prices? Match country, storefront, platform and date; list prices and discounts are not universal.
Bottom line for each buyer
There is one clear answer for each common buying situation. Existing owners who want the first three paid expansions should choose the DLC Bundle and add Return to Castlevania separately if needed. New digital buyers wanting the complete paid-DLC game should choose the five-item Medley of Pain Bundle. Buyers who also want digital music should select its OST version. Collectors should choose the Prisoner’s Edition for its physical memorabilia, while remembering that it includes only The Bad Seed among the paid expansions and therefore is not the all-DLC edition.
