It is four perks that perform one clear job, cover the way that plan can fail, and fit the character’s power or team role. Survivors should begin with a priority such as information, chase time, generators, rescue, healing, stealth, or the endgame. Killers should begin with what their power already does well, then add a pressure plan and tools for its blind spots.
This guide explains what perks do, how progression and presets work, how to build each role’s four-slot loadout, and how to adjust a build when it fails. What a perk and a loadout mean
A perk is an equipable gameplay ability. Survivor perks can be used by Survivors, and Killer perks can be used by Killers. A loadout is the complete set of choices prepared for a trial: your four perk slots plus other pre-trial selections such as an item, add-ons, an offering, or their Killer equivalents. The loadout determines what your character can do repeatedly, what information you receive, and which mistakes you can recover from.
Because every match has different teammates, opponents, maps and objectives, there is no permanent universal list of the best Survivor perks or best Killer perks. A perk that is excellent for extending a chase can be irrelevant to a player whose main problem is finding generators. A slowdown perk can look strong on a Killer whose power already controls objectives, yet be less useful than tracking on a Killer who regularly loses the first chase.

Think of the four slots as a small system. One perk starts or maintains your main plan, another helps when that plan breaks, a third provides information or protection, and the final slot adapts to the lobby, map or team. This approach is more reliable than selecting four perks because each has a high reputation in isolation.
How perk progression and sharing work now
Teachable perks were removed from the Bloodweb. Instead, a character’s prestige level determines which tiers of that character’s perks become available on every other character in the same role.
| Character prestige | What other characters receive | Tier available |
|---|---|---|
| Prestige 1 | The character’s perks become available to all other characters in that role | Tier 1 |
| Prestige 2 | The same perks are shared at the next level | Tier 2 |
| Prestige 3 | The shared perks reach their highest standard tier | Tier 3 |
These prestige-unlock rules were introduced in Behaviour Interactive’s 2022 progression changes. The practical consequence is that you no longer need to hunt for a separate teachable node. If you want one character’s perk on the rest of your Survivor or Killer roster, invest in that character’s prestige levels, then select the unlocked perk from another character’s loadout when it is available.

Unlocking and equipping a perk
- Choose the role and character. Enter the Survivor or Killer character screen and select the character whose perks you want to unlock or use.
- Raise that character’s prestige. Spend the character’s progression resources until the next prestige level is reached. Prestige 1, 2 and 3 correspond to the shared Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 unlocks shown above.
- Open the loadout screen for the character you will play. Select an empty perk slot or replace an existing perk with one that is unlocked for that character.
- Confirm the full pre-trial loadout. Check all four perk slots, then review the item, add-ons and offering before queuing. Exact menu wording can change with patches, but the character-selection loadout panel is where these choices are made.
Licensed-character access and individual perk availability can change independently of the prestige rules. When a perk appears missing, first verify that you are on the correct role, the source character has reached the required prestige, and the perk is not temporarily altered by a current update.
Recent interface and balance changes that affect loadouts
Loadout planning is easier than it was when every trial required rebuilding the same four choices manually. Behaviour Interactive’s 2025 quality-of-life initiative added additional perk-loadout slots after A/B testing and allowed players to see their own perk loadouts in the lobby. Update 9.1.0 lists seven available Loadout and Cosmetic presets. Use separate presets for different jobs instead of treating one arrangement as your only build.

| Update 9.5.0 | All Survivor and Killer perk descriptions were revised with expanding tooltips, clearer status-effect labels and keybinding reminders. |
| Update 9.6.0 | Identical modifiers from powers, items, perks and offerings receive diminishing returns when they stack. |
The 9.6.0 rule changes how you evaluate duplicate effects. Four bonuses that appear to increase the same statistic may not deliver four full bonuses. A mixed build with different ways to create pressure can outperform a pile of near-identical modifiers, even when each individual modifier looks efficient.
How to build a Survivor loadout
Survivor builds are team decisions made from an individual’s four slots. Start by naming the job you want to perform for most of the trial. Then choose a perk that begins or sustains that job, add information or protection for its main failure state, and reserve the last slot for flexibility.
Step 1: choose one primary job
| Primary job | What the build tries to achieve | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Information | Find generators, teammates, the Killer or a safe route sooner. | Information does not automatically create speed; you still need to act on it. |
| Chase extension | Turn a first hit or a dangerous tile into more time before a down. | Value depends on encounter timing and your ability to use the extra window. |
| Objective speed | Keep generator progress moving and reduce idle time. | A pure objective setup can be fragile if the Killer forces repeated rescues or chases. |
| Rescue and healing | Return teammates to action and make saves safer. | Requires access to teammates and can lose value when the team is already separated. |
| Stealth | Avoid becoming the easiest target and preserve resources. | Stealth may contribute little if nobody repairs or rescues while you hide. |
| Endgame | Remain useful after the last generator or during the escape phase. | Conditional effects can occupy a slot for much of the trial. |
Pick the job that matches your current weakness, not the job that sounds strongest on a tier list. If you routinely fail because you cannot locate a safe objective, information is more valuable than another chase effect. If you find generators but lose every first chase, replace one objective perk with chase support.

Step 2: add a trigger that starts the plan
A build needs a dependable way to activate its main effect. Triggers can be tied to actions, proximity, injury, a hook or rescue event, a completed objective, or a particular phase of the trial. Read the current tooltip and ask three questions: What must happen? How often can it happen? Can I control the timing?
Prefer a trigger you can create during normal play. A perk that activates only after several teammates cooperate may be powerful when the team follows the plan but unreliable in solo queue. A perk that requires a very specific injury state may be excellent for a deliberate chase build and dead weight in a stealth-oriented loadout.
Step 3: cover the main failure state
Every primary job has a predictable way to fail. Information fails when the result is too vague or arrives too late. Chase builds fail when a hit does not become a down. Objective builds fail when the Killer interrupts progress. Rescue builds fail when the save is unsafe or the rescued player is immediately pressured. Stealth builds fail when the Killer finds you anyway. Endgame builds fail when the trial ends before their conditions are met.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use the second or third slot to address that failure state. For example, an objective-focused Survivor can add information that reveals when leaving a generator is necessary, while a chase-focused Survivor can add a protection or recovery effect that preserves value after a failed loop. The supporting perk should solve a problem the primary perk cannot solve, rather than repeating its effect.
Step 4: reserve one slot for the match
The fourth slot should remain adaptable. Use it for team support when playing with coordinated teammates, for personal survivability when playing alone, or for a counter to the environment you expect. If the first three perks already require the same trigger, choose a perk with an independent trigger so one interruption does not disable your entire loadout.
Survivor information builds
Information is useful only when it changes your next action. Pair a source of Killer or objective information with a perk that converts that knowledge into movement, repair time, a safer route or a timely rescue. Avoid filling every slot with different notifications that all answer the same question. One clear signal plus a way to capitalize on it is usually more useful than several overlapping alerts.
Survivor chase builds
Chase builds should extend the interval between first contact and a down. Choose one effect that helps you reach or use a strong route, then add a way to recover after the Killer breaks that route or gains a hit. Consider whether the trigger requires you to be injured, near a teammate or in a particular area; a chase build that depends on conditions you cannot reliably create will feel inconsistent even when its peak value is high.
Survivor objective builds
Objective builds work best when they reduce downtime rather than merely adding another generator bonus. Information can tell you when to rotate, protection can prevent a single interruption from ending the attempt, and a flexible slot can support a rescue without abandoning the team’s progress. Under update 9.6.0, do not assume that stacking several identical progression modifiers produces full additive value.

Survivor rescue and healing builds
Rescue and healing setups need a plan for both reaching the teammate and surviving the return trip. Include information or protection that helps you approach safely, then choose effects that keep the rescued player from becoming an immediate liability. These builds are team-dependent: if teammates refuse to stay near you or repeatedly leave hooks unprotected, the most efficient support perk can still have little practical impact.
Survivor stealth and endgame builds
Stealth is strongest when it preserves a resource for a later action, such as a generator rotation or rescue. Do not let hiding become the objective itself. Endgame builds should be chosen when you accept that their value may arrive late. Keep at least one earlier-triggering perk unless your team strategy deliberately prioritizes the final phase.
How to make a Killer build
Killer loadouts begin with the power, not with a generic list of strong perks. Identify what the power already accomplishes, then spend the four slots on pressure that is reliable for that power and on the blind spots that repeatedly cost you trials.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStep 1: describe the power’s natural advantage
Ask whether the power primarily improves tracking, chase control, mobility, injury pressure, hooking, area denial or snowballing. A power that already finds Survivors quickly may gain more from converting a first sighting into a down than from another tracking effect. A power that wins chases but loses time between targets may need map-wide information or movement support.
Step 2: select a pressure plan
| Pressure plan | What to measure | Typical risk |
|---|---|---|
| Tracking | Time from a generator event or hook to the next actionable Survivor location. | Information has little value if it does not lead to a chase or interruption. |
| Chase control | Time to first hit and time from first hit to down. | A fast chase does not matter if other Survivors complete objectives unchecked. |
| Generator slowdown | How often a regression or delay effect creates another chase window. | Repeated identical modifiers are affected by update 9.6.0 diminishing returns. |
| Hook progression | Whether each hook produces the next useful target or forces Survivors off objectives. | A hook-only plan can stall if Survivors are difficult to locate afterward. |
| Snowballing | How reliably one injured, downed or rescued Survivor creates a second pressure event. | Snowball effects can be weak when the first setup event never occurs. |
| Endgame | Control of the final objectives and escape routes after early pressure. | Endgame value is delayed and may not compensate for a lost early game. |
Step 3: add reliable information
Information should shorten the time between events. Choose effects that reveal where to go after a hook, generator interruption or failed chase, then ensure the Killer’s power can exploit that information. If the power has limited range or a long recovery, a broad signal may need a mobility or chase-control companion to become pressure.
Step 4: cover the power’s blind spot
Common blind spots include losing Survivors after a missed attack, poor map-wide reach, slow recovery, difficulty forcing a down at strong tiles, or weak pressure after a rescue. One or two slots should address the blind spot that appears most often in your matches. A variety of complementary effects is safer than four versions of the same bonus under the 9.6.0 stacking rule.
Killer tracking builds
Tracking builds are judged by information uptime and conversion. If a notification arrives while you are already in a chase, it may be less valuable than a trigger that appears immediately after the chase ends. Pair tracking with a way to move between targets or force them into a position where the power is strongest.

Chase-control builds should reduce the number of safe decisions available to a Survivor. Select effects that complement the power’s attack pattern rather than replacing it. Measure the time to first hit, the time to down and the recovery after a failed attempt. If the build is excellent only on one map layout, use the flexible slot for a more map-independent tool.

Killer generator-pressure builds
Generator pressure is useful when it creates additional chases, not when it merely delays the same objective while all four Survivors remain healthy and active. Track which generator events actually produce a target. If several perks trigger from the same kick or regression action, inspect their current tooltips and account for diminishing returns before dedicating the entire loadout to that pattern.
Killer snowball and endgame builds
Snowball builds require a reliable first advantage and a way to reach the next Survivor quickly. Endgame builds are a conscious trade: you accept less early value in exchange for stronger control later. If your matches regularly end before the endgame conditions occur, move at least one slot to an earlier pressure plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which perks work well together?
Perks work well together when their triggers and effects form a sequence. Build the sequence on paper before entering a trial:
- Trigger: identify the event you can create consistently.
- Information: determine what the trigger tells you and how long the information remains useful.
- Conversion: choose the action that turns that information into progress, a chase, a rescue or a down.
- Recovery: add a response for the most likely interruption or failed attempt.
Look for complementary timing rather than identical wording. An effect that reveals a target and another that improves movement toward that target have a natural relationship. Two effects that both activate after the same rare event may compete for the same narrow window. Check whether one perk disables another, whether both require you to be in the same location, and whether teammates must cooperate for the chain to begin.
Current diminishing returns also make variety part of synergy. When identical modifiers from powers, items, perks and offerings stack, update 9.6.0 applies diminishing returns. A build with one strong modifier, one information tool, one protection or recovery tool and one flexible counter can therefore be more dependable than four near-duplicates.
How to decide what belongs in your four slots
Use this decision framework after choosing a role:
- Primary job: What should this loadout accomplish in most trials?
- Reliable trigger: Can you activate the main effect without an unusual teammate action or rare map situation?
- Failure coverage: What event most often stops that plan, and which slot answers it?
- Information quality: Does the build tell you where to go or merely display a notification?
- Timing: Are all effects early-game, late-game or conditional, leaving a dead period?
- Independence: If one perk is disabled, can the other three still perform useful jobs?
- Stacking: Are repeated modifiers subject to the current diminishing-returns rules?
- Map and lobby fit: Does the build depend on a particular map shape, teammate cooperation or a specific mistake?
For Survivors, compare candidate builds by generator progress, chase extension, information quality, rescue and healing support, survivability and endgame reliability. For Killers, compare time to first chase, information uptime, chase conversion, generator pressure, hook progression, snowball potential and dependence on a particular map or Survivor error. These measures explain why two builds with similar reputations can perform differently for the same player.
Presets, lobby checks and match preparation
Use the available presets to save separate jobs instead of editing one loadout repeatedly. Update 9.1.0 lists seven Loadout and Cosmetic presets, so you can maintain distinct configurations for information, objective pressure, chase, rescue, or a map-specific plan. The 2025 quality-of-life changes also allowed players to see their own perk loadouts in the lobby, making a final check possible before the trial starts.
- Select the intended preset from the character’s loadout area.
- Read each current tooltip, including expanding details, status-effect labels and keybinding reminders added in update 9.5.0.
- Confirm role and character; Survivor and Killer perks are not interchangeable.
- Check the other pre-trial choices for conflicts with the perk plan.
- In the lobby, verify the displayed loadout before readying up.
Do not rely on an old screenshot or memory of an effect. Update 9.5.0 revised every Survivor and Killer perk description with simplified, consistent language, so the in-game tooltip is the authoritative explanation for the current wording.

Troubleshooting a loadout that feels weak
The build rarely activates
Record which trigger failed rather than replacing a random perk. If the trigger depends on a teammate, a particular phase or a rare injury state, replace it with an effect that activates during your normal route through the trial.
The build activates but changes nothing
Check the conversion step. Information must lead to movement, repair, rescue, healing, a chase or a down. If the effect does not change your next action, exchange it for a perk that protects the action your primary job requires.
Several perks feel redundant
Compare their triggers and modifiers. If they all affect the same statistic or event, update 9.6.0 diminishing returns may be reducing the payoff. Keep the most reliable version and use another slot for information, recovery or a counter.

The build works only with a coordinated team
Separate team-dependent value from personal value. In solo play, retain at least one perk that helps you locate objectives, survive a chase or recover without a precise teammate response. In a coordinated group, a support slot can be justified when the team consistently follows the required timing.
The build is strong late but loses early
Replace one delayed or conditional perk with an effect that functions during the first chase, first generator contest or first rescue. A late-game plan still needs enough early pressure to reach its activation conditions.
What changed in the perk meta
Behaviour Interactive’s 2022 perk-overhaul discussion described the work as an intentional attempt to shake things up. The article described a planned scope of nearly 40 perks, while noting that the exact number was still to be confirmed. It also reported qualitative internal-data and community-feedback findings: Killers often favored generator-regression perks, while Survivors often favored second-chance perks. Those observations explain historical preferences, not a current universal ranking.
Because the game is live service, balance changes can alter the value of a trigger, effect or stacking pattern without changing your preferred playstyle. Keep the job-based structure and update the individual perks after patch notes change their wording or rules.

The practical verdict
For a Survivor, choose one job, add a reliable trigger, cover the job’s main failure state and keep one slot flexible. For a Killer, start with the power’s natural advantage, select a pressure plan, add information that can be converted into action and cover the power’s blind spot. Use prestige levels to share perks, presets to save distinct plans, current tooltips to verify effects, and the 9.6.0 diminishing-returns rule to avoid assuming that repeated modifiers stack at full strength. That process answers what to put in four perk slots without pretending that one build is best for every map, team or opponent.
