Lost Rites Spellseal Doors open with the Empowered Godsbane Blade, which you receive by progressing the main story through the quest A New Godsway. Some ruins contain optional Spellseal Doors. If a door opens an item menu and nothing in your inventory is accepted, there is no hidden key in the cave to find. The door is gated by story progress, so return to it after you have the blade.
Why the Spellseal Door won’t open
Lost Rites doors are a progression gate, not a local puzzle. Interacting with one brings up an item menu, and if none of your items qualify, searching the ruin for a missing key will not help. The step-by-step route below follows a VGC guide by Dave Aubrey, published October 8, 2026, which describes this behavior and the fix.

How to unlock Spellseal Doors in Lost Rites
- Start Lost Rites. At the Stardrop Inn, speak with Captain Brant and select the dialogue option “About the uncovered ruins…” to receive the quest.
- Mark the challenge areas. Open your inventory and use the Proving Ground Compass. It marks the newly added challenge areas on the map, so you can plan which ruins to visit.
- Test the door once. Interact with a Spellseal Door in a ruin. If the item menu opens and no item is eligible, note the door and move on rather than searching the cave.
- Advance the main story. Follow the Vermund and Battahl main quests through A New Godsway. That quest rewards the Empowered Godsbane Blade, which the guide says opens Spellseal Doors, including the Dark Arisen additions.
- Go back to the doors that stopped you. Revisit every door you skipped earlier and interact with it again while carrying the blade.
Reading the door’s item menu
- Menu opens, nothing selectable: the door is waiting on story progress. Continue the main quests rather than backtracking through the ruin.
- Menu offers the Empowered Godsbane Blade: you have the item, so select it to open the door.
- No menu at all: the door may be a different interaction. Check that you have started Lost Rites before retrying.
About Lost Rites and the Dark Arisen expansion
The PlayStation Store listing describes Lost Rites as 12 dungeon challenges, and identifies Dark Arisen as a PS5 expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2. The expansion cannot be played without the base game, so readers who do not own Dragon’s Dogma 2 need that first. The listing gives October 9, 2026 as the release date; confirm the current date and availability on the PlayStation Store product page before purchase. Unlocking the doors does not require buying a separate item or accessory.

What the sources do not cover
Neither the guide nor the store listing says which Spellseal Doors hold which rewards, so this article does not list them door by door. The guide also does not include an official developer statement on the door mechanic, and the instructions above reflect its description of in-game behavior.
