The company says each design is based on a bespoke metrology-lab scan made with imaging equipment originally developed for space exploration. That description is dbrand’s own marketing claim; the public product page does not publish the scanner, operating parameters, calibration data, or a laboratory report.
As of August 18, 2026, X-Ray is an established product category rather than a newly verified launch with a confirmed original launch date.
What dbrand’s X-Ray product actually is
The X-Ray design is a visual layer, not a functional imaging system. You can buy it in two practical forms:
- X-Ray Skin: a thin adhesive wrap showing a detailed representation of the phone’s internal layout.
- Grip Case with X-Ray skin: dbrand’s protective case carrying the same design.
dbrand offers Light and Dark treatments and currently advertises both colorways with an X-Ray order on its special-edition page: dbrand X-Ray. Neither option turns the rear panel transparent. The battery, cameras, coils, shielding and circuit board remain inside the phone; the artwork only depicts them.

How the scan-based artwork was made
dbrand says every phone received a bespoke scan in a metrology laboratory. It describes the imaging hardware as one-of-a-kind equipment originally developed for space exploration. The stated goal is unusually detailed visual reproduction of each phone’s internals.
“Ultra-high-resolution” should be read as promotional language here, not as a published spatial-resolution measurement. dbrand does not identify the instrument maker, scan energy, operating settings, calibration method or an independently reviewable scan report on the product page. The scan story explains the design’s source, but it is not evidence that the skin is a medical X-ray, industrial CT image or certified dimensional record.
X-Ray versus Teardown
dbrand’s older Teardown family is a separate design, not a renamed X-Ray product. Teardown was developed with Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything and uses a teardown-style presentation. Its product page says each skin is a “99% accurate representation” of the device’s internals. That number belongs to Teardown and should not be transferred to X-Ray.

Skin or case: choose the configuration carefully
The most consequential checkout mistake is selecting Skin only while expecting a phone case. On dbrand’s configuration pages, Skin only is a replacement adhesive design and does not include the Grip Case: Galaxy S24 Ultra X-Ray configuration.

These examples are not a complete compatibility list. Before paying, use dbrand’s model selector and verify the exact generation. Camera cutouts, button positions, back-panel dimensions and case fit can differ between apparently similar variants.
When captured, the iPhone 15 page showed a $59.90 subtotal for the Grip Case plus X-Ray skin, against a displayed $79.85 list price. The Galaxy S24 Ultra page showed the same $59.90 subtotal and $79.85 displayed list price. These are device-specific, date-sensitive prices observed on August 18, 2026—not a permanent X-Ray price or universal MSRP. Taxes, shipping, stock and promotions can change the total.

What the Grip Case adds
For the iPhone 15 configuration, dbrand describes a roughly 2 mm profile, MagSafe compatibility, clicky replacement buttons, textured grip surfaces, a raised camera-protection area and a customizable backplate that accepts dbrand skins. Those specifications apply to that listed configuration; do not assume every phone or case generation has identical dimensions or magnetic behavior.
dbrand also uses “military-grade” impact language on its page, but the cited material does not provide a test standard, drop height, certification number or laboratory report. Treat it as the company’s marketing description rather than independently documented rugged-case performance.
What the skin protects against
On the iPhone 13 skin page, dbrand describes a textured finish, scratch protection and removal without adhesive residue. That makes a skin a low-bulk cosmetic layer, not structural reinforcement. It does not substitute for a drop-rated case, raised screen protection or impact absorption.

A skin must match the exact phone model and align around cameras, buttons and corners. Dust, oil, curved edges and repeated removals can cause visible problems:

Follow the model-specific installation instructions linked from the relevant dbrand product page; the correct technique can vary by device. Applying the design does not require opening the phone, but no skin or case can guarantee acceptance of every warranty claim. Manufacturer warranty terms differ by brand and region, and careless adhesive removal can still create practical damage.
MagSafe compatibility is explicitly stated for the iPhone 15 Grip Case page. Do not generalize that claim to every Android model, case generation, charger or third-party magnetic accessory.
Who should buy an X-Ray skin or case?
Choose the skin
- You value the thinnest possible customization.
- Scratch resistance matters more than drop protection.
- You already have a compatible case.
- You want both Light and Dark artwork from one advertised X-Ray order.
Choose the Grip Case with X-Ray skin
- You want the design plus textured sides and raised camera protection.
- You need MagSafe where dbrand explicitly supports it.
- A case profile of about 2 mm on the iPhone 15 configuration is acceptable.
Choose Teardown instead
- You prefer the JerryRigEverything association.
- You want the established teardown-style look rather than X-Ray’s Light/Dark treatment.
- The separate Teardown accuracy claim is more relevant to your decision.
Skip both
- You need independently documented rugged drop testing.
- Your exact phone model is unsupported.
- You dislike adhesive products or change phones frequently.
- You require a genuinely transparent case that reveals the actual hardware.
Bottom line
dbrand’s X-Ray line is premium visual customization built around scan-derived artwork. Its appeal is the detail and illusion of seeing inside a phone—not functional X-ray technology. Verify the exact model, decide between Skin only and Grip Case plus skin, and treat the listed prices and protection language as configuration-specific claims that can change.
