Pat Freiermuth is the safer general fantasy choice over Darnell Washington based on the Steelers’ listed tight-end order and receiving production through four games. Washington has nearly matched Freiermuth’s yardage on fewer catches, making him a possible upside alternative, but the available numbers do not establish a larger role or a dependable target increase.
How the two tight ends compare
| Measure | Pat Freiermuth | Darnell Washington |
|---|---|---|
| Steelers depth-chart listing | First at tight end | Second at tight end |
| 2026 through four games: receptions | 14 | 9 |
| 2026 through four games: receiving yards | 125 | 119 |
| 2026 through four games: receiving touchdowns | 2 | 1 |
| 2026 yards per catch | 8.93 | 13.22 |
| 2025 season: receptions | 41 | 31 |
| 2025 season: receiving yards | 486 | 364 |
| 2025 season: receiving touchdowns | 4 | 1 |
The current-season figures are from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ official depth chart and official player statistics pages, and cover four games. The 2025 totals are from those player pages as well.

Why Freiermuth is the safer pick
Freiermuth leads the team’s listed tight-end order and has more receptions and touchdowns in the current four-game sample. His 2025 receiving totals also exceed Washington’s in catches, yards and touchdowns. Those are stronger indicators of established receiving production, though a depth-chart listing does not guarantee weekly snaps, targets or fantasy points.

When Washington could make sense
Washington has 119 yards on nine catches, only six yards behind Freiermuth’s 125 on 14. His current 13.22 yards per catch is higher than Freiermuth’s 8.93, but averages across four games are volatile. The comparison supports considering Washington as a less-established upside option; it does not prove that his targets or route usage will grow.

Make the choice for your league and lineup
- Choose Freiermuth when you want the more established receiving profile supported by the listed order, more catches and touchdowns this season, and higher prior-year totals.
- Consider Washington when you are willing to take on more uncertainty and value the near-equal current yardage despite fewer receptions.
- Before a weekly start decision, check current player availability and your league’s scoring settings. The Steelers’ statistics are receiving totals, not fantasy-point totals, and the cited figures do not provide league-specific projections or matchup guidance.
