Daily Red: How to Play the Free Daily Pokémon Battle Challenge

Daily Red is a daily Pokémon battle, not a Pokémon guessing game. Everyone receives the same team of six level-100 Pokémon, chooses a lead, and tries to defeat Red. Like Wordle, it offers one counted challenge per day, a streak and a shareable result. The browser version at daily-red.com is free, requires no account or installation, and runs on its own battle engine based on Pokémon Showdown’s simulator and Generation 3 rules.

What is Daily Red?

Each day, daily-red.com assigns every player the same randomly selected team of six level-100 Pokémon from Generations 1–3. You use that team to battle Red, whose fixed roster is Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Pikachu always leads.

The Wordle comparison describes the shared daily puzzle, streak tracking and result sharing. There are no hidden words or Pokémon names to guess: you win by making sound battle decisions.

The site describes itself as an unofficial fan project and says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures Inc., GAME FREAK inc. or The Pokémon Company.

How to play the daily-red.com version

  1. Open the game. Visit daily-red.com in a browser. No download, account or paid product is required.
  2. Inspect the day’s team. The six Pokémon shown on the page are shared by all players for that date.
  3. Choose your lead. Select which of your six Pokémon enters first against Red’s opening Pikachu.
  4. Choose a move or switch. Select an available move, or change Pokémon. Switching consumes a turn, so do it when the defensive or type advantage justifies the lost action.
  5. Finish the official battle. You have one counted attempt per day. If you leave in the middle of it, the daily-red.com page says the battle waits rather than giving you a fresh counted attempt.
  6. Practice after the result. Once the official battle is over, unlimited practice runs are available and do not change your streak.
  7. Return after the reset. A new team unlocks at midnight in your local time zone. Progress is saved in the browser on that device, with no account-based cloud save.

Matchup tactics that matter

Lead a Ground type into Pikachu

Ground-type Pokémon take no damage from Electric moves, making one a strong answer to Red’s lead. Check the rest of your assigned team before committing: preserving that Ground type for a later emergency may be more valuable than gaining an early advantage.

Use Rock attacks on Charizard

Charizard is both Fire- and Flying-type, so Rock attacks exploit both weaknesses. The game specifically points to Rock Slide as a four-times-effective option when the move and attacker’s statistics support it.

Attack Snorlax physically

Daily Red’s strategy notes identify Snorlax’s Defense as lower than its Special Defense and recommend Fighting moves because they are super effective. Physical attacks are therefore generally preferable to special attacks in this matchup.

Answer Espeon with Dark, Ghost or Bug

Those three types are the recommended ways to pressure Espeon. Consider accuracy, power and whether the attacking Pokémon can survive Espeon’s response rather than selecting a type advantage blindly.

Remember the Generation 3 ruleset

The game says it uses Generation 3 battle rules. In those rules, whether a move is physical or special is determined by its type, unlike later games that classify moves individually. A move that behaves as expected in a modern Pokémon title may therefore use a different damage category here.

Daily Red rules at a glance

Rule daily-red.com
Team Six random level-100 Pokémon from Generations 1–3, shared by all players that day
Opponent Red; Pikachu leads, followed by Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise
Counted attempts One official battle per day
Practice Unlimited after the official battle; practice does not affect the streak
Reset Midnight in your local time zone
Saving Progress is stored locally in the browser on that device
Cost and setup Free; no account and no installation

Do not confuse the two Daily Red websites

dailyredgame.org uses the same Daily Red name but is a separate implementation. Its battle controls differ, and it says a recorded attempt can resume after you leave or refresh. The daily-red.com version instead says an interrupted daily battle waits and separately offers unlimited practice after the official run. Follow the instructions and rules shown on the exact domain you opened; do not combine the two sites’ behavior.

A 12 October 2026 report from Held Games said the original amoi-builds project was withdrawn or archived and distinguished it from other hosted versions. That report concerns the original project, not proof that daily-red.com is unavailable. Availability can change, so treat the site status as time-sensitive.

Common problems and practical fixes

The game did not keep my progress

Daily Red stores progress in the browser on the current device. Clearing site data, using private browsing, changing browsers or moving to another device can remove or hide that local save. Avoid clearing the site’s storage until the streak no longer matters to you.

I used my daily attempt too soon

The official run is limited to one counted battle. Use the practice mode after that run to test leads and move choices, but remember that practice cannot restore or replace the day’s official result.

The next team has not appeared

The reset is tied to local midnight. Check the device’s time zone and reload after the local date changes. A different time zone can make the unlock appear earlier or later than expected.

I expected modern Pokémon mechanics

Review the Generation 3 qualification before choosing a move. Physical/special behavior and other mechanics may differ from current main-series games.

The Bottom Line

For a free, no-installation daily challenge, start at daily-red.com: study the shared six-Pokémon team, lead carefully against Pikachu, exploit type matchups, and save experimentation for the unlimited practice runs. Check the domain before playing because dailyredgame.org follows different attempt and resume rules.
