Daiichikosho says personal information stored on a computer belonging to its service provider may have leaked after malware was found on the machine. The company’s 8 October 2026 notice estimated that about 8.724 million records could be involved, but said it had not confirmed external disclosure or related misuse; its investigation was continuing.
What happened?
The incident involved one employee computer at Nippon Columbia Group (NCG), a service provider handling work commissioned by Daiichikosho. NCG reported that malware infected the computer between 1 and 2 October 2026. It isolated the machine from the network on 2 October, then investigated the possible scope and reported the matter to Daiichikosho on 5 October.

The computer had temporarily stored personal information connected with that work. Daiichikosho said it could not rule out that the information had leaked. The company published its notice on 8 October and said the cause and scope remained under investigation. NCG reset passwords, according to the notice.

How many records may be involved?
Daiichikosho estimated about 8.724 million records in total: approximately 8.631 million customer records after deducting duplicates, plus about 93,000 employee records. These are approximate records, not a stated count of unique people. The company’s published category figures and duplicate adjustment are:

The company listed about 515,000 duplicate customer records deducted in arriving at the customer total. Because the category figures are approximate and the company explicitly applies a duplicate adjustment, they should not be added as though every entry represented a separate person.

What information may have been exposed?
For customers, the potentially involved fields are registered name, sex, date of birth, email address, and telephone number. Daiichikosho said passwords were not included. It also said that the information alone cannot be used to spend customer points and that no point misuse had been identified when the notice was published.

Those are the company’s status statements as of its 8 October notice, not a final finding about what happened on the provider’s computer.

Did Big Echo have a data breach, and what should customers do?
Big Echo-related records appear in Daiichikosho’s estimate, but the notice describes a possible leak, not confirmed theft. If your information was among the records, the listed contact details could help someone craft a convincing impersonation or phishing attempt. Be alert for suspicious email, SMS, and calls.
- Do not open unfamiliar links or attachments, even if a message appears to relate to a karaoke membership or account.
- Do not provide passwords or credit-card information to someone who contacts you. Daiichikosho says it will not ask customers for either through these channels.
- Use a contact method you independently verify if you are unsure whether a message or caller is legitimate.
The company’s notice said it had not confirmed misuse related to the incident. That dated statement does not guarantee that no misuse will occur or that the investigation is complete.

In its 9 October 2026 update, Daiichikosho listed a toll-free customer inquiry line at 0120-732-079, open 10:00–17:00 on weekdays, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. It also listed [email protected]. Contact details and hours can change, so check the company’s update before calling or emailing.
