Cypress 11 made Component Testing generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue, and changed several component-mount APIs. Cypress also reported startup improvements of up to 84% in its results, while noting that actual performance varies by situation. For teams upgrading, the most important checks are repeated cy.mount() calls, removed mount options and APIs, and the changed Vue mount return value.

What changed in Cypress 11?

Cypress 11.0.0 was released on November 8, 2022. Its headline change was Component Testing moving out of beta and becoming generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue. The Cypress Team had described its Component Testing API as stable and said the beta tag was being removed.

Cypress also changed component-testing behavior and APIs, so the release was more than a performance update. The changes matter most to projects with existing component tests or framework-specific mount setup.

Component Testing became generally available

In Cypress 11, Component Testing was generally available for React, Next.js, Angular, and Vue. Cypress described the API as stable; the release announcement characterized mount API changes as groundwork for supported libraries and third-party integrations. See the Cypress Team’s November 4, 2022 announcement and the Cypress changelog.

Startup performance: what the 84% figure means

Cypress reported startup improvements of up to 84% in its results, attributing them to shipping a snapshot of the Cypress binary instead of source files. Cypress qualified the figure: results vary by situation. Treat it as a vendor-reported maximum, not a promised improvement for every project or an independently verified benchmark. Your actual startup time depends on your environment and workflow.

Component-testing changes to check when migrating

The Cypress 11 migration guide describes changes that can affect existing tests. Review the full Cypress migration guide for framework-specific details; the items below are the main compatibility checks.

Repeated cy.mount() calls replace the prior component

A subsequent cy.mount() call in the same test removes the previously mounted component. If a test needs multiple components to be present at once, mount them together as part of one component rather than expecting successive mount calls to accumulate them.

Mount options removed

Cypress 11 removed these stylesheet-related mount options:

  • cssFile and cssFiles
  • style and styles
  • stylesheet and stylesheets

Search your component-test setup and mount calls for these names, then update the setup according to the migration guide for your framework.

React APIs removed

The mountHook and unmount exports were removed from cypress/react. Find imports or calls that rely on either API and adapt them using the relevant instructions in the migration guide.

Vue mount return value changed

For Vue, the mount return value changed from the VueWrapper alone to an object containing wrapper and component. Update code that directly used the old return value, and consult the guide for the precise changes required by your Vue test setup.

How to plan an upgrade

  1. Identify the exact version. Distinguish the initial Cypress 11.0.0 release from later 11.x updates before investigating a behavior or failure.
  2. Inventory component tests. Check whether the project uses Cypress Component Testing with React, Next.js, Angular, or Vue.
  3. Search for affected patterns. Look for repeated mounts in one test, the removed stylesheet options, React imports of mountHook or unmount, and Vue code that assumes the former mount return value.
  4. Update and run tests in context. Apply the framework-specific migration guidance and run the component tests that use the affected setup. Pay particular attention to tests that expect multiple mounted components to coexist.
  5. Check the target release’s changelog. The 11.x line includes fixes after 11.0.0; do not assume the initial release and later updates have identical behavior.

Cypress 11.x was not just the 11.0.0 release

The changelog records Cypress 11.0.1 on November 9, 11.1.0 on November 14, and 11.2.0 on November 22, 2022. Examples of follow-up changes include fixes for migration workflow failures in TypeScript projects and a cypress run crash with the JUnit reporter in 11.1.0. In 11.2.0, “Run All Specs” returned behind the experimentalRunAllSpecs flag. Check the changelog entry for the specific 11.x version you use rather than treating these as features of 11.0.0.

What this release overview can—and cannot—establish

Cypress 11 is a historical release. The release notes and migration guide establish what changed in that version, but they do not establish whether Cypress 11 remains supported or is suitable for a new project in 2026. For a current support or adoption decision, verify Cypress’s current lifecycle and version guidance rather than relying on 2022 release notes.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need website screenshots rather than component-test migration, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its API accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. AI agents can use its MCP tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Example cURL request (replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
