Buy Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition if you are starting from scratch and want the complete released experience. It combines the base game with the paid Phantom Liberty expansion, released updates and free downloadable content. If you already own the base game on a compatible platform, buying Phantom Liberty separately is usually the logical route, because the expansion requires the base game.
Your platform matters more than any advertised bundle name. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions cannot run Phantom Liberty and stopped receiving new content after Patch 1.6. Current options include PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and qualifying Apple-silicon Macs. Prices, discounts and physical stock change by country and storefront, so check the exact listing for your platform before paying.

There is no universally cheapest edition. A sale can make a separate base game and expansion cheaper than a bundle, or make the bundle the better value. Treat the table as a buying decision, not a permanent price ranking.
What the Ultimate Edition actually includes
For PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, CD PROJEKT RED describes the Ultimate Edition as the original Cyberpunk 2077 game plus Phantom Liberty, the spy-thriller expansion set in Dogtown. The package also includes every update released at the time of the Ultimate Edition announcement, including Update 2.0, and all free downloadable content released by then.

Phantom Liberty adds its own story, district, quests, items and Relic skill tree. It is a paid expansion rather than a replacement edition of the main game. You can play the original campaign without it, and owning the expansion does not remove or replace the base campaign.
CD PROJEKT RED has described Phantom Liberty as the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. That makes Ultimate Edition the all-in-one purchase for the released paid content, but it does not mean the game will receive no future patches or platform-specific maintenance.
Buying the base game and Phantom Liberty separately
When separate purchases make sense
Separate buying is primarily for two groups. First, an existing owner may already have the base game and need only the expansion. Second, a new player may want to start with the core campaign and postpone the additional cost until deciding whether the game suits them.
The official buy information states that Cyberpunk 2077 is required to play Phantom Liberty. An expansion-only listing is therefore not a substitute for the base game. Before checkout, make sure the product page identifies the same platform family and account ecosystem as your copy of the base game.
What to compare at checkout
- Whether you already own the base game digitally or on disc.
- Whether the expansion listing is for your exact platform, rather than a PC, PS5, Xbox Series or Switch 2 version you cannot use.
- Whether a store offers an owner upgrade, bundle discount or complete-edition promotion.
- Whether a disc-based base game still needs the disc inserted when launching on your console.
Current prices were not established as a fixed worldwide figure. Regional taxes, sales, promotional periods and physical inventory can change the result from one storefront to another, so use the total shown in your own currency.

Details by platform and format
PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
The original Ultimate Edition announcement covered digital availability worldwide and physical sales in selected markets. “Worldwide” digital availability does not guarantee the same currency, age-rating presentation, language pack or discount in every country. Physical copies can disappear from local stock even when the digital version remains available.
On console, check whether the listing says Ultimate Edition rather than only the base game or only Phantom Liberty. On PC, check that the store account you use is the one that will retain both entitlements. A bundle may appear as one purchase while installing the base game and expansion as separate components.
Nintendo Switch 2
The Switch 2 release packages the base game and Phantom Liberty in one Ultimate Edition. The publisher documents two formats: a physical 64 GB game card and a digital Nintendo eShop edition. Switch 2-specific controls include motion, gyroscope, touch and mouse options.
Those controls are features of the Switch 2 release, not reasons to buy a different edition on another platform. If you are comparing a used card with a digital listing, confirm that the card is the Ultimate Edition and that any included content is not represented by a separate download code that has already been redeemed.
Mac
CD PROJEKT RED’s July 2025 announcement lists the Mac Ultimate Edition with the base game, Phantom Liberty and updates through Update 2.3. The stated minimum platform conditions are an Apple-silicon Mac, at least 16 GB of unified memory and macOS 15.5 or later.

Existing owners on the Mac App Store, GOG, Steam and Epic Games Store may be able to download the Mac version at no additional charge on qualifying hardware, according to that release notice. Storefront entitlement policies can change, so sign in to the account that owns the game and check the current Mac download or compatibility message before buying it again.

These older-console versions are the main reason not to treat every box labelled “Cyberpunk 2077” as equivalent. CD PROJEKT RED says new content updates and improvements for PS4 and Xbox One ended after Patch 1.6. Phantom Liberty was not developed for those platforms.
If you want Dogtown, the Relic skill tree, the expansion story and the later feature set, choose PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 or a qualifying Mac instead. Buying the PS4 or Xbox One base game does not create an entitlement to the expansion on an unsupported console.
Physical or digital: how to choose
Choose physical when ownership and resale matter
- A disc or game card can be useful when you share games within a household or prefer a shelf copy.
- Physical availability outside Switch 2 was announced only for selected markets, so local stock is not guaranteed.
- Console patches and any required downloads can still apply to a physical copy.
- For a used copy, verify that the product is the complete edition and that no one-time bonus or download code is missing.
Choose digital when convenience and immediate access matter
- Digital purchases avoid waiting for shipping and are tied to the platform account that bought them.
- Digital storefront prices can change quickly during seasonal or publisher sales.
- Check the product description carefully: a store may show the base game, an expansion-only product and Ultimate Edition as separate buttons.
- Confirm your console or Mac has enough storage before starting the download.
How to buy the right product without a costly mistake
- Identify the hardware first. Write down whether you will play on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 or a qualifying Mac. If your only hardware is PS4 or Xbox One, decide whether you are satisfied with the older base-game feature set.
- Check what you already own. Look in your library for the base game, not just a trial, subscription entitlement or disc you no longer have access to.
- Open the platform’s official listing. Read the product title and contents instead of relying on a search thumbnail. Confirm whether it says Ultimate Edition, base game or Phantom Liberty.
- Match the edition to the platform. An expansion purchased for one platform family may not be usable on another. Do not assume that owning a console copy grants a PC or Mac copy.
- Compare the complete total. For a new player, compare Ultimate Edition with the combined price of the base game and expansion. For an existing owner, compare the expansion price with any owner upgrade or bundle offer.
- Check format and requirements. For Switch 2, choose the 64 GB card or eShop version you actually want. For Mac, verify Apple silicon, 16 GB unified memory and macOS 15.5 or later.
- Review the final confirmation screen. Make sure the platform, region, edition and included content are correct before payment; this is where a similarly named expansion-only listing is easiest to catch.
Common buying mistakes and their fixes
Mistake: treating “Ultimate” as a graphics upgrade
Ultimate Edition is primarily a content bundle. It combines the base game and Phantom Liberty and packages released updates and free DLC; it is not a separate visual-quality tier that automatically upgrades unsupported hardware.
Mistake: buying Phantom Liberty without the base game
The expansion requires Cyberpunk 2077. If you own nothing, buy Ultimate Edition or buy both products. If you already own the base game, the expansion-only purchase is the relevant comparison.

Mistake: assuming PS4 or Xbox One will receive the expansion later
They will not run Phantom Liberty. The support cutoff after Patch 1.6 is a platform limitation, not a setting that can be fixed by reinstalling or downloading a larger update.
Mistake: assuming every physical box is stocked everywhere
Physical sales for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S were announced for selected markets, while Switch 2 has a documented 64 GB card option. Check the seller’s region, language information, edition name and stock status rather than assuming a global release means local availability.
Mistake: buying Mac software before checking the Mac itself
The announced Mac requirements are specific: Apple silicon, at least 16 GB unified memory and macOS 15.5 or later. An Intel Mac or a machine below the memory requirement should not be treated as compatible merely because it can run other Mac games.
Which edition should you buy in each real-world scenario?
“I have never played Cyberpunk 2077 and want everything.”
Choose Ultimate Edition on your supported platform. It removes the need to coordinate two purchases and supplies the base campaign, Phantom Liberty, released updates and free DLC in one package.

Buy Phantom Liberty separately if your platform supports it. Confirm that your existing copy is on PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, or move to a supported Switch 2 or Mac release if that is where you intend to play. Compare the expansion price with any current upgrade offer.

“I want to test the core game before paying for extra content.”
Start with the base game when its current local price is meaningfully lower and you are comfortable making a later expansion purchase. Remember that this is a staged purchase, not a way to play Phantom Liberty without buying it.
“I only have a PS4 or Xbox One.”
You can play the older base-game release, but it cannot provide the complete current feature set or the expansion. If Phantom Liberty is important, budget for supported hardware rather than buying an incompatible add-on.
“I want the most portable version.”
Switch 2 Ultimate Edition is the documented all-in-one portable option, with a 64 GB physical game card or digital eShop release and console-specific motion, gyroscope, touch and mouse controls.

Check the current entitlement rules in the Mac App Store, GOG, Steam or Epic Games Store account that owns your copy. The July 2025 notice says qualifying existing owners may download the Mac version at no additional charge, but the Mac must meet the stated Apple-silicon, memory and operating-system requirements.
Final buying checklist
- Is your platform PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 or a qualifying Mac?
- Do you already own the base game on that same platform ecosystem?
- Does the product page clearly say Ultimate Edition or clearly identify Phantom Liberty?
- Have you compared the current local total rather than relying on an old price or a search result?
- If buying physical, is the copy in stock in your region and is it the complete edition?
- If buying on Mac, does your machine have Apple silicon, at least 16 GB unified memory and macOS 15.5 or later?
For most new players, the answer remains straightforward: buy Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on a supported platform. Existing base-game owners should price the separate Phantom Liberty expansion, and anyone on PS4 or Xbox One should understand that the expansion and post-1.6 content are unavailable there.
