What Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode does
CD PROJEKT RED describes Photo Mode simply: “Photo Mode lets you take screenshots in Cyberpunk 2077.” It is the game’s own capture workflow, separate from a screenshot made by an operating-system or platform overlay. That distinction matters when you are looking for files later: a Photo Mode image and a Steam, Xbox Game Bar, GeForce Experience, or console-share capture may be stored in different places.

Photo Mode is included with the game on supported platforms. CD PROJEKT RED says Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition contains the base game and Phantom Liberty and is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The capture instructions below apply to the game’s Photo Mode rather than to a particular edition’s marketing features.

How to open Photo Mode on each platform
Use the platform shortcut below while playing. These are the default entry commands documented by CD PROJEKT RED Technical Support.

If a shortcut does nothing, first make sure the game has focus and that you are using the active input device. A keyboard command will not respond when a controller is taking input, and a controller combination can be missed if one stick is pressed before the other. Check the game’s control settings and try again before assuming that the feature is unavailable.
Understanding the Photo Mode camera controls
There is no single universal key table that remains correct for every platform, controller, keyboard layout, and game patch. Once Photo Mode opens, read the control legend shown in the overlay: it reflects the active device and the current bindings for camera movement, camera height, rotation, lens or field-of-view adjustments, and menu navigation.

GOG’s support documentation says keyboard and mouse controls are almost fully remappable, with menu shortcuts as the exception. That means you can tailor most camera actions to a preferred keyboard layout or mouse setup, but you should not assume that every menu command can be reassigned. Open the game’s control settings, inspect the Photo Mode entries, and confirm the resulting assignments in the in-game overlay.
PlayStation and Xbox controllers
On consoles, use the labels displayed by Photo Mode rather than a keyboard-oriented guide. The same physical button can have a different role depending on the active menu, and a patch or input configuration can change what the legend presents. The reliable workflow is to enter Photo Mode, keep the legend visible while composing the shot, and test each axis with a small movement before making a final capture.

Why an online key chart can be wrong
A chart copied from another version may describe an older patch, a different language layout, or a remapped profile. It may also confuse the command that opens Photo Mode with the camera controls inside it. Treat the documented entry shortcut as the starting point, then trust the live overlay for the rest.

To open it, press Windows key plus E to launch File Explorer, click the address bar, paste the path exactly, and press Enter. The %UserProfile% variable resolves to the signed-in Windows account, so you do not need to replace it with your name. If the folder is not visible, take a new Photo Mode capture first and then check again; a folder may not appear until the game has written its first image.
PlayStation 5
Console captures are handled through the PlayStation capture system. Open Settings → Storage → System Storage → Capture Gallery → Cyberpunk 2077. This is the console gallery workflow, not a Windows-style game directory.
Xbox Series X|S
On Xbox, press the Xbox button → Capture & share → Recent captures. The Recent captures view is where the system exposes the image for review and sharing.

Do not mix Photo Mode files with platform screenshots
A screenshot made with Steam, Xbox Game Bar, GeForce Experience, or a console share button can use a different folder or library. If you cannot find an image in the Cyberpunk 2077 Pictures folder or the console gallery path above, identify how it was captured. The game’s own Photo Mode output is the file associated with the locations described here.

How to make a higher-quality Cyberpunk 2077 screenshot
Image quality is a balance between the output resolution you want and the time your hardware needs to render the scene. Begin with the highest resolution your system can produce reliably, then inspect the saved image at 100 percent zoom. A picture that looks sharp when fitted to a small preview can reveal noise, softness, or aliasing at native size.
- Set a realistic output target. Choose the highest display or capture resolution your PC or console can render without instability. A larger target is useful only if the hardware can complete the frame consistently.
- Raise texture quality as performance allows. Higher texture settings preserve surface detail, but available graphics memory and the target resolution determine whether the setting is practical.
- Use high lighting settings when the scene benefits from them. Lighting quality often changes the appearance of faces, reflective materials, and dark interiors. Increase it while watching render time and overall responsiveness.
- Compare at 100 percent. Open the resulting PNG or JPG at its native size. Check fine edges, text, hair, distant objects, and shadow areas instead of judging only a scaled preview.
- Save the final version from Photo Mode. A platform overlay capture can have a separate compression or storage path, so verify that the file you are evaluating is the game’s Photo Mode image.
DLSS 3.5 and path-traced lighting
CD PROJEKT RED’s Ultimate Edition booklet identifies DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing: Overdrive, also called path tracing, as PC graphics capabilities. On supported hardware, DLSS can help maintain a higher-resolution presentation or performance target, while path-traced lighting can produce a more detailed lighting result. Both choices depend on the GPU, selected resolution, and the complexity of the scene.
These features are not a free quality switch. Path tracing increases rendering cost, and an upscaling mode can change fine-detail behavior compared with native rendering. Test the exact scene you intend to capture, wait for the image to settle, and compare native-size results. If the frame rate falls too far or the render takes too long, lower the expensive option or choose a less demanding upscaling setting before making the final shot.
Quality choices on consoles
Console graphics options and capture behavior are controlled by the console version and its available display modes. Use the highest-quality mode that remains responsive for the scene you are composing, then review the saved capture in the system gallery. The documented storage paths do not establish one universal resolution or compression setting for every console configuration.

What file type Photo Mode uses
CD PROJEKT RED Photo Mode challenge rules accept screenshots saved as .png or .jpg. That is a useful reference for the native capture formats, but it does not establish one universal resolution, bitrate, or compression level across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
PNG is generally useful when you want a lossless file for later editing, while JPG is convenient when file size and broad compatibility matter. The game or platform determines which format is produced in a particular workflow. Do not rename an unrelated platform screenshot and assume it has become a Photo Mode capture; the capture method and storage location still matter.

Troubleshooting checklist
Photo Mode will not open
- Confirm that you are pressing the shortcut for the active platform: N on PC, L3 + R3 on PlayStation, or LS + RS on Xbox.
- Ensure the game window has focus on PC and that the intended input device is active.
- Check the control settings for a remapped keyboard or controller profile, then use the in-game legend to verify the current command.
The file is missing from the expected location
- Take another capture from the game’s Photo Mode, then check the Windows path or console gallery again.
- Confirm that you did not use a Steam, Xbox Game Bar, GeForce Experience, or console-share screenshot instead.
- On Windows, paste

The screenshot looks worse than the preview
- Open the saved file at 100 percent zoom to distinguish real detail from a scaled preview.
- Verify the capture’s resolution and whether it is PNG or JPG.
- Compare DLSS 3.5, native rendering, and path-traced lighting in the same scene. Keep the combination that delivers the detail you want without an unacceptable rendering cost.
A reliable capture workflow
- Choose the platform shortcut and open Photo Mode.
- Read the live control legend before changing the camera position or lens.
- If you use a PC, confirm any keyboard or mouse remapping in the control settings; remember that menu shortcuts may not be remappable.
- Set resolution, texture, and lighting options that your hardware can render consistently. On supported PC hardware, test DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing: Overdrive separately when deciding whether the quality gain justifies the cost.
- Capture the image through Photo Mode rather than a platform overlay.
- Find the result in the Windows Pictures directory, PlayStation Capture Gallery, or Xbox Recent captures, then inspect it at native size.
- Keep the PNG or JPG that meets your intended use and preserve the original before any crop or edit.
This process keeps the camera controls, file location, and quality judgment tied to the same capture, which prevents the most common confusion: evaluating a platform screenshot while searching for a Photo Mode file.
