You need Cyberpunk 2077 on a supported platform. For a first-time buyer, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is the simplest package because it includes both the base game and Phantom Liberty. Owners of the base game can purchase the expansion separately where that platform offers it. The expansion is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2; it is not available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
What you need to buy
Phantom Liberty cannot be played by itself. CD PROJEKT RED’s official buy page states: “Cyberpunk 2077 is required to play Phantom Liberty.” The expansion adds content to an installed copy of the base game, so a Phantom Liberty listing is not a cheaper way to obtain the full game.

There are two normal purchase routes:
- New to Cyberpunk 2077: buy Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which bundles the base game and Phantom Liberty.
- Already own the base game: buy Phantom Liberty as a separate expansion, provided your platform and store support that purchase.
Licenses are platform-specific. A purchase for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch 2 should be treated as a license for that ecosystem; check the exact store listing before paying, especially if you are changing platforms or buying a physical copy.

When Ultimate Edition is the better deal in practice
Ultimate Edition removes the most common buying mistake: purchasing an expansion without owning the game it modifies. It also gives a first-time player one product listing, one platform decision, and one installation plan. If you want to play the complete Cyberpunk 2077 release rather than buying the base game now and deciding about the expansion later, this is the least complicated choice.

When the standalone expansion is the right purchase
If Cyberpunk 2077 is already in your library on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, the standalone Phantom Liberty listing avoids paying for a second copy of the base game. Check the store account you actually use: owning a disc, a subscription entitlement, or a different-generation console version may not produce the same license as owning the current-platform digital edition.
Platform compatibility
Phantom Liberty launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. CD PROJEKT RED stopped releasing new content for the previous-generation consoles after Patch 1.6, and Phantom Liberty is not a supported purchase for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The cutoff matters even if you own the base game on one of those older consoles.

Why PS4 and Xbox One are excluded
The exclusion is a content-support decision, not merely a store-label difference. CD PROJEKT RED’s previous-generation-console notice says Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 and explains that new content updates ended on those consoles after Patch 1.6. Consequently, buying an older-generation base game does not unlock the expansion later.

Nintendo Switch 2: what is included
The dedicated Switch 2 Ultimate Edition launched on June 5, 2025. It contains both Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty, so Switch 2 buyers do not need to purchase the expansion separately for that release.
Two formats are offered:
- Digital: download through Nintendo eShop.
- Physical: a 64 GB game card.
The Switch 2 release also adds platform-specific control options, including motion, gyro, mouse, and touch features. These are features of the Switch 2 version, not separate editions or additional DLC. Before checkout, make sure the listing is specifically for Switch 2; a listing for an older Nintendo platform is not interchangeable.
PC editions, storefronts, and hardware checks
CD PROJEKT RED says the Update 2.0 PC requirements apply to both the base game and Phantom Liberty. The official requirements are divided into separate non-ray-tracing and ray-tracing tables. Use the table that matches the graphics mode you intend to run, and compare every listed component rather than checking only the processor or graphics card.

Storefront choice affects where your license, download, updates, and save-management options live. Buy the expansion on the same PC storefront as your base game unless that storefront explicitly identifies cross-entitlement support. A GeForce Now listing is a cloud-access route, not a separate console edition; you still need to follow the service’s current ownership and account requirements.
A practical PC purchase check
- Open the storefront where your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 is owned.
- Locate the Phantom Liberty add-on or the platform-specific Ultimate Edition.
- Confirm that the product page lists the same storefront account and edition family as your base game.
- Compare your computer with the current Update 2.0 non-ray-tracing table. If you plan to enable ray tracing, use the separate ray-tracing table instead.
- Check available storage, operating-system support, and the store’s current download requirements before starting the purchase.
- Install or update the base game and then install the expansion through that same library.
Do not treat an older performance guide, a retailer’s abbreviated specification, or a user comment as a substitute for the current official requirements. Requirements can change with patches, and the ray-tracing and non-ray-tracing targets are not interchangeable.

Physical or digital: choosing the format
Digital
Digital editions are convenient when you want immediate access, automatic patch delivery, or no disc swapping. The main decision is account and platform matching: the base game and expansion must be recognized by the same ecosystem. Review the store’s region, edition name, and included products before confirming payment.
Physical
The Switch 2 Ultimate Edition is offered as a physical 64 GB game card. For other platforms, physical availability, included discs, and regional stock vary by retailer and territory, so verify the specific listing rather than assuming that a boxed copy contains Phantom Liberty. A box labeled only with the base game is not the Ultimate Edition.

Physical media also does not remove the platform requirement. A PlayStation 4 or Xbox One disc cannot be turned into a Phantom Liberty-compatible release simply by installing the expansion on that console.

Buying by player situation
You have never played Cyberpunk 2077
- Choose your supported platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Search for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, not Phantom Liberty alone.
- Confirm the platform label, region, and whether the listing is digital or physical.
- After purchase, install the base game and the included expansion from the same product ecosystem.
You own the base game on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series
- Open the store account that owns your current copy.
- Find the standalone Phantom Liberty expansion.
- Check that the add-on is listed for the same platform generation and account.
- Purchase and install the expansion; keep the base game installed and updated.
You own the base game on PS4 or Xbox One
Do not buy a Phantom Liberty add-on expecting it to run on that console. The expansion is not supported there. Plan around a supported PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2 Ultimate Edition instead, and verify what version or entitlement your new platform requires.
You want Switch 2 portability
Choose the Switch 2 Ultimate Edition. Decide between the eShop download and the 64 GB game card, then confirm that the controls and storage arrangement suit how you play. The motion, gyro, mouse, and touch options belong to this platform release.
You are considering Mac
Update 2.3 documentation lists Mac among the platforms receiving the update, and CD PROJEKT RED says Update 2.3 is free to everyone who owns the base game; Phantom Liberty and Ultimate Edition are not required for that update. However, no standalone Mac Phantom Liberty SKU or regional Mac price is currently published on official pages. Check the current Mac storefront product page for the exact entitlement before purchasing.

Update 2.3 is described by CD PROJEKT RED as free to all players who own the base game of Cyberpunk 2077. It is listed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mac. That free update does not make Phantom Liberty free, and it does not remove the requirement to own the base game.
In practical terms, separate these questions:
- Can the platform run the update? Update 2.3 documentation includes the platforms above.
- Can the platform run Phantom Liberty? Phantom Liberty requires the supported current-generation/PC release; PS4 and Xbox One are excluded.
- Do you own the expansion? Only a Phantom Liberty purchase or an Ultimate Edition entitlement answers this.
Prices, regions, and stock
Prices, discounts, retailer inventory, and regional licensing are volatile. A store page can change after you read a guide, and a physical product can be unavailable in one country while listed in another. Check the final checkout page for currency, taxes, edition contents, platform, and delivery format.
Do not compare a discounted base-game price with the regular price of Ultimate Edition and assume the difference is the expansion’s permanent value. Promotional pricing is temporary, and the relevant comparison is the current total cost for the exact products you need.

- If you are on PC, did you check the current Update 2.0 requirements for your graphics mode?
- Does the store listing match your platform, account, region, and storefront?
- Have you checked today’s price, stock, taxes, and delivery format?
