How Cyberpunk 2077 performs in handheld mode
Switch 2’s image reconstruction
Switch 2 renders a lower internal image and uses Nvidia’s DLSS reconstruction to produce a 1080p handheld presentation. PC Gamer reported that this looked sharper than the Steam Deck’s native 800p output and also cleaner than the Deck’s FSR-upscaled docked image. The practical differences are easy to notice while exploring Night City: small text is more legible, distant geometry remains visible farther away, and reconstruction artifacts are less obvious.
Textures were described as broadly similar between the two portable versions. The advantage is not that Switch 2 suddenly has high-end-PC asset quality; it is that the higher output resolution and console-specific reconstruction preserve edges and text more effectively on the screen you actually hold.

Steam Deck’s quality preset
The cited Steam Deck setup used its quality preset with FSR 2.1 enabled automatically. That gives the Deck a useful performance-oriented reconstruction path, but the 1280×800 panel leaves fewer pixels to work with than Switch 2’s 1920×1080 display. The Deck setup cited here did not use frame generation, so its motion output should not be interpreted as a frame-generated 60fps mode.
Steam Deck’s strength is control rather than a single fixed presentation. Owners can alter graphics options, output resolution, refresh rate and launch behavior, then trade image quality against frame-time consistency. Those controls can help when a particular area or preference matters more to you than the default quality preset.
Stutter, crowds and distant detail
Both versions can stutter in dense areas. The comparison also found lower vehicle and crowd density than on a high-end PC build, so neither portable should be judged as a complete substitute for a powerful desktop. Switch 2 was considered slightly smoother overall, but that result includes the benefit of a port tuned specifically for one console. It is therefore not a simple test of which chip is faster in the abstract.
Does Switch 2 run Cyberpunk 2077 at 60fps?
The available comparison does not establish a locked 60fps result for Switch 2. The console starts in quality mode, and a performance mode becomes available when the system is connected to a 120Hz display. That setting and the 120Hz panel provide additional operating choices, but they are not proof that every scene holds 60fps.

In practical terms, expect a smoother-feeling presentation than the cited Steam Deck run, with occasional stutter when the city becomes especially busy. If a guaranteed, measured frame-rate target is your deciding factor, the published evidence here is not sufficient to promise one for either portable.
Docked performance and TV play
Switch 2’s dock advantage
When Switch 2 is placed in its dock, the system can use higher clock speeds and gains additional GPU headroom. PC Gamer found the docked machine a little more powerful than the handheld configuration. That can help maintain the game’s chosen presentation on a television, and the dock is included rather than sold as an additional accessory.
The performance-mode option is tied to connection with a 120Hz display in the cited report. A normal 60Hz television will still show the game, but it does not provide the display condition described for switching modes. The dock therefore improves the available hardware budget, not just convenience.

Steam Deck can connect to a monitor or television and exposes considerably more output and graphics controls. The trade-off is reconstruction quality: PC Gamer noted that the image can become blurrier when output resolution is raised. You can choose a lower output and let the display scale it, or experiment with settings to find an acceptable compromise, but the Deck does not offer the same fixed, console-tuned path as Switch 2.

Switch 2’s screen is both larger and substantially denser, which explains much of its clarity advantage in handheld Cyberpunk. Its 120Hz ceiling and VRR support also give the system more display headroom for uneven frame delivery. Those features do not remove game-engine stutter, but they can make changes in frame timing less distracting.
The Steam Deck OLED is a separate hardware option with better color and contrast than the LCD model used in the cited specification comparison. It still does not match Switch 2’s 1920×1080 pixel count or 120Hz maximum. If you care about black levels and color more than text sharpness, the OLED Deck changes the visual balance; it does not erase the resolution difference.
Battery life: which lasts longer?
Battery results vary sharply with the scene, screen brightness, wireless radios and test procedure. Two published tests illustrate the range rather than establish a universal winner.

Switch 2 lasted longer in both cited comparisons, but the margins are not interchangeable because the Steam Deck hardware and test procedures differ. A lighter scene, lower brightness, enabled wireless connectivity or a different frame-rate target will change either result. Treat the figures as examples of Cyberpunk’s demanding workload, not as a guaranteed runtime for every session.

Why Switch 2 feels more like a console
Switch 2 boots into a dedicated console environment, docks reliably and keeps the game’s important choices behind a relatively small number of modes. The Joy-Con controllers detach, and their mouse-like mode can be useful for menus or compatible control schemes. You do not need to assemble a separate dock setup or manage a desktop layer before playing on a television.
Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie described Switch 2 as better as a console-like device than Steam Deck. That distinction matters when your priority is pressing the power button, resuming a game and moving between handheld and TV play with minimal configuration.
Why Steam Deck feels more like a PC
Steam Deck provides trackpads, desktop controls, overlays and extensive settings access. You can adjust graphics options, experiment with launch parameters, select refresh rates and use PC utilities that are outside a conventional console workflow. Mod support and the broader Steam catalog are major advantages if Cyberpunk is only one part of a larger PC library.

The cost of that flexibility is management. Compatibility layers, control profiles, desktop tools and per-game settings can require troubleshooting, and a configuration that improves one scene may make another look softer or run less consistently. Steam Deck is a console-shaped PC, not a sealed console appliance.

Switch 2 Ultimate Edition
TechRadar lists the Switch 2 release date as June 5, 2025. The physical Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition uses a 64GB cartridge and was reported to run without an initial download. It includes the base game, the Phantom Liberty expansion and years of content updates.
That cartridge is valuable if you want a physical library, offline access to the installed release and a single package containing the major game content. TechRadar called the port highly accomplished overall but identified rougher areas in Phantom Liberty, so the physical format should not be mistaken for a guarantee that every part of the game is equally polished.
Steam Deck’s PC edition
On Steam Deck, you are using the PC edition and its PC-oriented update and configuration model. The platform offers no cartridge equivalent, but it gives you access to Steam’s broader backlog, community tools and mod ecosystem. Whether that is preferable depends on whether ownership format or software breadth matters more than a self-contained console package.
How long does Cyberpunk 2077 last on Switch 2?
The Switch 2 edition contains the same major package identified above: the base game, Phantom Liberty and accumulated content updates. The cited hardware coverage does not establish a Switch 2-specific number of campaign hours, and the platform does not shorten or extend the game’s authored story. Your total time will depend on how much optional content, exploration and expansion material you play.
For buying purposes, the important distinction is content completeness rather than a different runtime. The Ultimate Edition is the version to choose if you want Phantom Liberty included from the start; the 64GB physical release also avoids an initial download according to TechRadar’s report.
