Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED are reported as producing. The studio name in the headline is the one that matters most, and it is easy to misread: Paramount is also the studio behind the announced Call of Duty film, but the two projects are separate. Nothing reported so far confirms the story, writer, director, cast, or release date.
What has been reported
As of October 8, 2026, TheWrap reported that Paramount is developing a feature-film adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077. The same day, Gematsu described a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Both reports place CD PROJEKT RED and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura on the project. Di Bonaventura is best known for producing the Transformers films, which is the credit that gives the producer name its weight in the headline.

Why Call of Duty is in the headline
Paramount and Activision announced a live-action Call of Duty feature in October 2025, with Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan attached, according to AP. That is the only connection between the two properties in the reporting. Paramount is the common studio. The Call of Duty team has no reported role in the Cyberpunk film, and the reports do not indicate that the two films share writers, producers, or other creatives.
The earlier Anonymous Content project
This is a second development thread, and it is easy to confuse with the new report. On October 5, 2023, CD PROJEKT RED announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the game’s world. The announcement named Anonymous Content Studios, called the project early-stage, and said the company was looking for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story. It did not describe the project as a movie.

In an August 29, 2025 investor chat, CD PROJEKT RED described that Anonymous Content project as still at a very early stage and told investors not to expect imminent updates. The reporting available does not explain how that project relates to the Paramount film. It is not established that the earlier project was cancelled, replaced, or folded into the new one, and it should not be assumed.

What is still unknown
- Story: none reported. Being set in the game’s universe does not mean the film retells V’s story or adapts Phantom Liberty.
- Cast: none reported. TheWrap says Keanu Reeves’s return is unknown, and the reports do not say whether any game voice actors are involved.

The only on-the-record comment in the reports is from CD PROJEKT RED co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, as quoted by Gematsu on October 8, 2026: “We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time.”
The game behind the film
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action role-playing game set in Night City, in which players control V, a mercenary. TheWrap reports more than 40 million copies of the game sold and 15 million copies of the Phantom Liberty expansion sold. TheWrap’s report does not identify the original source or date for these totals, so they should be read as TheWrap’s figures rather than independently verified company data.

For readers who want more of the franchise before a film arrives, CD PROJEKT RED’s 2023 announcement pointed to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, produced with Studio Trigger and available on Netflix, along with the novel Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE and the Gangs of Night City board game, which was then in production with CMON.
