PlayStation’s current Cyberpunk 2077 FAQ estimates 20–30 hours to complete one storyline. That is the clearest official playtime figure, and it describes a focused run through one narrative path rather than every mission, ending, activity, or collectible.

The same FAQ says the game has multiple endings and “lots to discover,” making it possible to spend hundreds of hours building your character and exploring Night City. There is no single official completionist-hour figure, so treat hundreds of hours as the upper scope of an exploratory, repeat-play or completion-focused experience—not a guaranteed campaign length.

The estimate applies to one storyline. Your actual time depends on how much of the main path you follow, how often you stop for side content, and whether you pursue different endings. A player who stays on the critical path will finish sooner than someone who investigates gigs, optional discoveries and character quests.

How to plan your playtime
- Focused story run: use the official 20–30-hour estimate as your baseline for one storyline.
- Story plus exploration: allow substantially more time for side missions, gigs and discoveries.
- Multiple endings or repeat runs: the branching structure can extend play into many additional sessions.
- Completionist approach: the official FAQ only establishes that hundreds of hours are possible; it does not promise a fixed total.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer?
No released multiplayer mode is documented in the official sources reviewed for this FAQ. PlayStation’s product listing labels Cyberpunk 2077 as “1 player”, so you should buy it as a single-player RPG rather than expecting co-op, competitive matches or an online campaign.
You do not need a PlayStation Network, Xbox online multiplayer or PC matchmaking subscription to experience the game’s core story. The player count describes the product’s intended mode: one person controls the protagonist and progresses through the campaign alone.
What not to expect
- No documented co-op campaign.
- No documented player-versus-player mode.
- No official online party system or shared Night City campaign in the reviewed product information.

What platforms is Cyberpunk 2077 on now?

Can you play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 or Xbox One?
Yes, the base game still runs on PS4 and Xbox One. However, these versions are frozen at the older support level. CD PROJEKT RED’s previous-generation notice says that after Patch 1.6, new content updates and improvements became exclusive to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PS4-specific limitation
PlayStation’s current product page identifies November 8, 2022 as the last PS4 patch. It also states that PS5 is required for later patches and Phantom Liberty. Therefore, buying or owning the PS4 edition does not give you access to the expansion on that console; you need the PS5 version and compatible hardware.
Xbox One-specific limitation
Xbox One continues to run the base release, but the previous-generation support notice excludes it from the later content path. The expansion and subsequent new-content updates target Xbox Series X|S, not Xbox One.
Which version should a legacy-console owner choose?
- Stay on PS4 or Xbox One if you only want the base campaign and accept that the version will not receive later content.
- Move to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S if you want Phantom Liberty, later patches and the current feature set.
- Check your store account and edition carefully before upgrading so you do not assume that a legacy-console copy includes the current-generation expansion entitlement.
Do you need Phantom Liberty to play Cyberpunk 2077?
No. Phantom Liberty is an optional expansion. The base game is playable by itself, and CD PROJEKT RED says Update 2.3 is free for base-game owners who do not own Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition.
You do need Phantom Liberty if you want its Dogtown setting, expansion storyline and associated content. It is an additional purchase rather than a free update.
Can you play Phantom Liberty without the base game?
No. The publisher’s launch announcement states that the base game is required. Phantom Liberty is not a standalone product, so an expansion-only purchase must be paired with Cyberpunk 2077 on a compatible platform.

Where and when did Phantom Liberty launch?
Phantom Liberty launched on September 26, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The PC and cloud distribution named in the launch material includes Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and GeForce Now.

Ultimate Edition vs. base game: which purchase makes sense?
The practical choice depends on what you already own and which hardware you use. The Ultimate Edition bundles Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty in one package. Buying Phantom Liberty separately is normally the simpler route for someone who already owns the compatible base game.

Three checks before buying
- Confirm platform generation. Phantom Liberty requires PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC; a PS4 or Xbox One copy alone is not enough.
- Confirm base-game ownership. Expansion-only purchases require Cyberpunk 2077.
- Confirm the content you want. Choose the base game for the original campaign, or add Phantom Liberty for Dogtown and its story.

How to interpret the table
- Minimum is not a 60-FPS guarantee. The stated minimum target is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low without ray tracing.
- Recommended is also non-ray-tracing. The 1080p/60-FPS High target does not describe ray-traced settings.
- An SSD is specified. Reserve at least 70 GB of SSD space for the table’s stated installation target.
- Memory is 12 GB in both rows. The processor and graphics card are the main differences between the minimum and recommended targets.
- Use the exact model family as a guide, not a promise. Laptop components, thermal limits, drivers and settings can affect results even when their names resemble the listed desktop parts.
Was there a free trial?
CD PROJEKT RED’s 2024 FAQ described a five-hour free trial on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The trial covered the base game only, and progress could carry into a later purchase.

That offer was documented as a 2024 promotion, not as a permanent entitlement. Check the current console store listing to determine whether the trial is still available in your region before relying on it.
Quick decision guide
If you are buying for the first time
Choose the Ultimate Edition on a current supported platform if you want the complete package. It includes both Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty, so you do not have to match an expansion purchase to a separately owned base game.
If you already own Cyberpunk 2077
Buy Phantom Liberty separately if your copy is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC and you want Dogtown and the expansion story. You do not need it for free base-game updates such as Update 2.3.
If you own PS4 or Xbox One
Keep the legacy version only if the original campaign is sufficient. To receive later content and play Phantom Liberty, move to a PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC edition.
