Perks, cyberware, and weapons work together, so a strong build is a coordinated setup rather than a single high attribute. The advice below reflects the post-2.0 system; use CD Projekt RED’s live Build Planner to check current perk prerequisites and try allocations before spending points in-game.
What changed in Cyberpunk 2077’s build system
Update 2.0, released by CD Projekt RED on September 21, 2023, redesigned the perk trees around fewer, more consequential abilities instead of many small damage bonuses. It also changed how armor and cyberware fit into character builds: most armor comes from cyberware rather than clothing, cyberware capacity limits how many implants you can equip, and implant bonuses are tied to attributes. Smart weapons also have dedicated perks following a damage reduction in the update. Older build guides may describe systems that no longer match the game. See the official Update 2.0 overview.

CD Projekt RED’s Build Planner announcement describes the tool as a way to experiment with attributes and perks without committing in-game. Its interactive view currently displays 66 attribute points and 80 perk points, but these are planner values, not population statistics; check the live tool for current allocations and prerequisites.

Choose a build by combat distance and core action
Before assigning points, decide whether you want to attack at close range, move rapidly through mid-range fights, or control encounters through quickhacks. Then choose a weapon family and cyberware that support that central action.

| Playstyle | Typical combat distance and core action | Attribute direction | Weapon and cyberware considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Close-quarters bruiser | Close range; absorb pressure and deal direct weapon damage | Body supports shotguns, light machine guns, and blunt weapons | Pick a supported weapon family and account for the cyberware capacity needed by your setup |
| Mobile fighter or melee ninja | Mobile mid-range or melee; use movement and, in some builds, time dilation | Reflexes supports blades, assault rifles, SMGs, and advanced movement; Technical Ability also features in CD Projekt RED’s Bullet-Time Ninja example | Coordinate melee weapons, movement perks, and cyberware such as a Sandevistan where that is the build’s focus |
| Netrunner or hybrid hacker | Ranged support or close-in hybrid combat; sequence quickhacks and manage RAM | Intelligence supports netrunning and Smart weapons | Pair hacking with Smart weapons or SMGs where appropriate; cyberdeck and perk choices shape the setup |
This is a direction map, not a required point-by-point allocation. Technical Ability and Cool complete the five-attribute framework, but their best role depends on your chosen perks and current prerequisites. Avoid copying a universal attribute split: consult the live planner for the specific build you are assembling.
What each attribute contributes to a build
Body: physical power and close-range weapons
The official planner describes Body as raw physical power and fortitude. It supports shotguns, light machine guns, and blunt weapons, and is relevant to actions such as forcing open doors or ripping turrets. Choose it when those weapons or physical interactions are central to how you want to play.

- Become a cyberpunk, an urban mercenary equipped with cybernetic enhancements and build your legend on the streets of Night City
- Take the riskiest job of your life and go after a prototype implant that is the key to immortality
Reflexes: mobility, blades, and rapid gunplay
Reflexes represents maneuverability and evasion in the planner. It improves blades, assault rifles, and submachine guns, while also enabling advanced movement. It is a natural foundation for a mobile fighter, whether you prefer melee attacks or gunplay on the move.
Intelligence: netrunning and Smart weapons
Intelligence is the netrunning attribute and improves Smart weapons. It fits a character whose main contribution is quickhack sequencing, and it can also support a hybrid who hacks while fighting with compatible weapons.

Technical Ability and Cool: use the planner for the build-specific fit
Technical Ability and Cool are the remaining attributes in the five-attribute system. Their exact value depends on the perks and synergies you want; check current requirements and effects in the live planner instead of treating either as a mandatory investment for every build.

Hack-&-Slash Netrunner
CD Projekt RED’s Hack-&-Slash Netrunner breakdown shows how a build can combine heavy early Intelligence investment with quickhacks, RAM recovery, and close-range fighting. It connects netrunning to Smart weapons and SMGs, and discusses the Militech Paraline cyberdeck, the Recirculation perk, and quickhack combinations. Treat the named choices as an example of linked synergies, not as a guarantee that every character should use them; check the planner and your game version for current values and availability.

Bullet-Time Ninja
The Bullet-Time Ninja breakdown centers on a Sandevistan, melee combat, and high investment in Reflexes and Technical Ability. Its lesson is that time dilation is not an isolated perk choice: attributes, melee weapons, cyberware capacity, and implant selection all need to support the same plan.

Savage Slugger Solo
CD Projekt RED’s Savage Slugger Solo breakdown illustrates a direct close-quarters approach built around weapons and supporting perks and cyberware. It identifies Rebecca’s shotgun Guts as one example. Use it as inspiration for a close-range setup, not as proof that Guts or any single weapon is best for every player.

Plan perks, weapons, and cyberware as one package
- Choose your main combat action. Decide whether the build primarily hacks, moves and attacks with melee weapons, or wins through close-range gunfire and physical toughness.
- Pick an attribute-supported weapon family. Match shotguns, light machine guns, or blunt weapons to Body; blades, assault rifles, or SMGs to Reflexes; and netrunning or Smart weapons to Intelligence.
- Check perk prerequisites in the planner. Select abilities that reinforce your central action and verify their current requirements in the Build Planner, rather than relying on an older screenshot or guide.
- Budget cyberware capacity. Choose implants that reinforce the build, then check the capacity limit before assuming every desired implant can be equipped. Remember that cyberware bonuses are tied to attributes and that most armor is now supplied by cyberware.
- Test the whole combination. Try the attribute and perk arrangement in the planner before committing in-game. A weapon, perk, and implant combination should reinforce the same playstyle rather than compete for points or capacity.
Know what you can change later
Perk points can be refunded individually outside combat. When Update 2.0 launched, players continuing an existing save received a one-time opportunity to reset attributes; that historical reset should not be mistaken for unlimited attribute respecs. CD Projekt RED said players could redistribute perk and attribute points to suit their playstyle before continuing, but the documented attribute reset was specifically a one-time opportunity for existing saves. Review your allocation in the planner before committing, and do not assume an attribute reset will always be available.
Which game versions and platforms does this advice cover?
The system changes described here are based on Update 2.0, while CD Projekt RED’s Update 2.3 information, published July 16, 2025, lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mac. The publisher says Update 2.3 is free for owners of the base game; its FAQ says players who do not own Cyberpunk 2077 must purchase the game to access the update. These are the platforms and terms stated in CD Projekt RED’s Update 2.3 patch notes and Update 2.3 FAQ, not a guarantee of current store inventory or availability for every edition.
