What CVE-2026-32996 is
Veeam describes CVE-2026-32996 as a vulnerability in Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows that allows local privilege escalation. It rates the issue High and assigns a CVSS v4.0 score of 7.3 in KB4852. This is a local privilege-escalation issue, not a claim of remote unauthenticated access.

In plain language, it describes a local attack with low complexity, attack requirements present, and low privileges required. It indicates high potential impacts to confidentiality, integrity, and availability on the vulnerable system. The advisory does not explain the exploit mechanism, so the vector should not be read as a specific attack procedure.
Which version fixes the issue?
Use the version reference for the component you are checking. Veeam’s Agent security-fix history and its VBR advisory point to different releases because they refer to different products.

Veeam’s release information dates VBR 13.0.2.29 to May 27, 2026 and lists Agent for Windows 13.0.3.1220 in the 13.0.3 release information (KB4738). Do not treat the VBR advisory build as proof that every separately installed or managed Agent has been updated. The cited pages do not establish that, and they do not establish the full affected-version range for standalone Windows Agent releases. Check the current product-specific vendor guidance for any installed version other than the listed fix reference.
How to prioritize remediation
- Inventory the components. Record the installed VBR version and the version of each Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows deployment, including standalone agents. Do not assume the server and agent versions match.
- Compare each component with its vendor reference. For the Agent, check whether the installed version is at least the listed fixed version, 13.0.3.1220. For VBR 13, check whether the installation has reached build 13.0.2.29 or a later applicable vendor release. Follow Veeam’s current update path for that deployment.
- Apply the corresponding software update. Update the backup server and agents as applicable to the deployment; verify each component after installation rather than inferring agent status from the VBR update.
- Review the advisory and monitor your environment. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security encourages administrators to review vendor information and apply necessary updates in AV26-513.
Veeam warns in KB4852 that after a vulnerability and its patch are disclosed, attackers may try to reverse-engineer the patch to exploit unpatched deployments. That makes version verification and prompt, component-specific updates important.

What is known about exploitation?
The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s AV26-513, updated September 21, 2026, says: “Open-source reporting indicates that CVE-2026-32996 is being exploited in the wild.” This is a dated report of open-source indications, not a verified victim count or assessment of prevalence. The advisory does not identify a responsible actor or provide a confirmed exploitation method.
The primary vendor and government sources cited here do not establish proof-of-concept availability, incident scale, or exploit mechanics. Avoid treating those details as confirmed when planning response; prioritize inventory, updates, and your organization’s normal investigation procedures.

Does CVE-2026-32996 affect Veeam Agent for Windows 12 or only 13?
The cited material identifies the Agent fix at 13.0.3.1220 and says KB4852’s VBR vulnerability set affects VBR 13.0.1.2067 and earlier version 13 builds. It does not establish that only Agent 13 is affected, nor does it define the complete affected-version range for Windows Agent 12. Check Veeam’s current Agent-specific advisory for a definitive answer about an installed version outside the listed fix reference.
