Cuisinart CPT-5A 2-Slice Toaster: Australian Model, Testing and Buying Advice

Short answer: the Cuisinart CPT-5A is a two-slice stainless-steel toaster sold for the Australian/New Zealand electrical market, but it is now listed as discontinued and appears difficult to find new. A retailer attributes seven browning levels, extra-wide self-adjusting slots, AlwaysEven technology, high lift, bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel controls to the model. Independent evidence is limited to a CHOICE comparison with Kmart’s Anko LD-T007: the two finished within one percentage point, with different strengths. Treat any remaining-stock listing as a used, old-stock or seller-specific opportunity, and verify the exact model marking, condition, return policy and electrical rating before paying.

What the CPT-5A is—and what it is not

CPT-5A is the model code used for a two-slice stainless-steel Cuisinart toaster in an Australian retail listing. The same model appears in CHOICE’s Australian review database. That identification matters because Cuisinart uses similar-looking model numbers in different markets. The US CPT-160P1 is a separate toaster, so its specifications, controls or warranty should not be treated as proof of what the CPT-5A contains.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

An Australian consumer question asks for the “equivalent in Australia” of the CPT-5A. There is no established one-for-one equivalent documented here. The CPT-5A itself is the Australian-listed model; a different toaster may be a practical substitute, but it is not automatically an equivalent. If a seller describes another Cuisinart as an equivalent, ask for its exact model number and compare the electrical label, slot dimensions, controls and warranty rather than relying on the brand name.

CHOICE identifies the CPT-5A as discontinued. A Peter’s of Kensington listing and other search-result listings showed unavailable or out-of-stock signals when checked. That does not prove that every unit has disappeared: old stock, marketplace listings or second-hand examples may still exist. It does mean that a current price, warranty or supply assumption would be unsafe. A listing that reappears after a long gap may represent a returned, refurbished or imported unit rather than a new production run.

Retailer-reported specifications

Peter’s of Kensington describes the toaster as having the following features. These are retailer claims; exact-model manufacturer documentation was not located, and no hands-on inspection was performed for this article.

Specification or control What the listing says How to interpret it
Capacity Two slices Suitable for one or two slices per cycle, not a four-slice family toaster.
Body Stainless steel Confirms the advertised exterior material, not immunity from fingerprints, heat or dents.
Slots Two extra-wide, self-adjusting slots Designed to accommodate thicker bread and hold slices against the heating elements.
Browning control Seven settings Seven selectable shade positions are reported; the listing does not establish the temperature or time range of each position.
Evenness feature AlwaysEven technology The retailer says it is intended to produce consistent, even browning. This is a product claim, not independent confirmation.
Lift mechanism High-lift lever Raises smaller items farther above the slot for removal.
Special programmes Bagel, defrost and reheat Useful when the relevant button changes the heating cycle; exact element behaviour is not documented here.
Stop control Cancel Stops a cycle before the selected time has elapsed.
Cleaning Removable crumb tray Allows crumbs to be emptied without turning the appliance upside down.
Electrical market Australian/New Zealand plug, 230V, 50Hz Appropriate for that electrical system when the unit’s own rating label agrees.

The listing also uses the phrase “AlwaysEven technology ensures consistent and even browning results.” Read that as the seller’s description of the feature, not as a laboratory finding. If a second-hand unit has no readable label or has been rewired, the listing alone is not enough to establish safe compatibility.

What the feature set means in daily use

Seven shade positions can be useful when two people prefer different toast colours or when you switch between white, sourdough and denser multigrain bread. They are still control steps, not calibrated colour guarantees. Bread moisture, thickness, sugar content, frozen state and the number of slices loaded can change the result. The most reliable approach is to begin around the middle of the range, note the result for your regular loaf and move only one setting at a time. A darker setting should not be assumed to mean a fixed number of extra seconds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Extra-wide self-adjusting slots are aimed at thick-cut bread and bakery slices that may not fit comfortably in a narrow slot. The mechanism should hold an ordinary slice near the heating elements, but an unusually tall, twisted or heavily topped piece can still toast unevenly or catch. Keep slices centred and never force food into the slot. Loose crumbs, cheese or sugary toppings can fall inside and create smoke or a fire hazard.

The two-slice capacity is worth considering before buying old stock. A household making four slices every morning will need two cycles, so the practical time advantage of a four-slice toaster may outweigh the CPT-5A’s stainless-steel styling. Conversely, a single user or couple may prefer the smaller footprint and independent control of a two-slot appliance.

What independent testing actually found

The useful independent evidence comes from a CHOICE comparison of the CPT-5A and Kmart Anko LD-T007. CHOICE reported that the models were virtually indistinguishable in appearance and separated by only one percentage point in their final scores. The accessible product page does not reveal the complete score breakdown without membership, so an exact overall score or a full methodology should not be invented.

Test area Cuisinart CPT-5A Kmart Anko LD-T007 Reported implication
Final result One percentage point behind the Anko in CHOICE’s comparison One percentage point ahead Very close overall result, not a decisive separation.
Toasting evenness Rated “OK” Rated “good” Anko had the clearer advantage on even browning in that test.
Multigrain bread A little ahead A little behind CPT-5A showed the stronger result for this bread type in the comparison.
Cycle consistency A little ahead A little behind CPT-5A was reported as more repeatable across cycles.
Toasting race 20 seconds slower than the Anko 2 minutes 35 seconds Anko completed the reported race faster.
Price context $90 in the historical CHOICE pairing Not stated in the cited comparison summary The $90 figure is historical context, not a current Australian price.

These results are comparison findings reported by CHOICE, not tests conducted by the author. They suggest a trade-off rather than a universal winner: choose the Anko benchmark if evenness and speed dominate, or favour the Cuisinart’s reported multigrain and repeatability edge if those matter more. Availability, current pricing and condition can outweigh a one-point historical difference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 20-second gap should also be kept in proportion. CHOICE reported the Anko’s race time as 2 minutes 35 seconds; the Cuisinart was 20 seconds slower. That is meaningful when several batches are made back-to-back, but it may be less important to someone making one slice while preparing breakfast. The comparison does not establish how either toaster performs with every bread type, nor does it establish long-term durability.

Bagel, defrost, reheat and high-lift controls

Bagel

The retailer lists a bagel function, but the exact element pattern for the CPT-5A is not documented in the available material. Confirm the printed instructions or markings on the unit before assuming which side receives heat. Never insert a bagel with loose toppings that can fall into the mechanism. If buying used, check that the bagel button returns normally and is not stuck in a selected mode.

Defrost

Defrost is intended for frozen bread. Frozen slices usually need a longer cycle than fresh bread, so check the first result and adjust the shade control rather than leaving the toaster unattended. Frost or ice can create extra moisture and steam; allow the appliance to finish its cycle and cool before emptying crumbs.

Reheat

Reheat is useful for warming toast without selecting a full browning cycle. Because the duration and element behaviour are not specified here, monitor the first use with your preferred bread. Do not use reheat as a guarantee that already-browned toast will remain soft inside; it is simply a shorter warming programme according to the control label.

High lift

A high-lift lever is valuable for small slices that sit below the rim. Raise the carriage only by its handle, and allow the appliance to cool before clearing a stuck item. Do not use a knife, fork or other metal object inside the slots. Disconnect the plug and follow the unit’s instructions if bread remains trapped.

Cleaning, placement and everyday safety

The removable crumb tray should make routine cleaning easier, but it is not a substitute for emptying the toaster regularly. Unplug the appliance, let it cool and slide the tray out over a bin. Do not wash or immerse the toaster body, and do not shake it over a sink where moisture can enter the controls. Check that the tray is fully seated before the next use.

Place the toaster on a stable, heat-resistant surface with clear space around it. Keep curtains, paper, tea towels and other combustible material away from the slots. Never operate it unattended for long periods, especially with frozen or unusually thick food. A stainless-steel exterior can still become hot and can show fingerprints, heat marks or dents; the material does not indicate that the appliance is cool-touch.

Australian availability and an exact-model buying checklist

Because the CPT-5A is discontinued, listings deserve more scrutiny than a current product sold through an established retail channel. Before buying, work through these checks:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Read the model plate. Look for “CPT-5A” on the base, rear label, box or instruction material. Do not accept a listing that only says “Cuisinart two-slice toaster.”
  2. Confirm the plug and rating. For an Australian or New Zealand unit, check for the expected plug and a 230V/50Hz rating on the appliance. A foreign-voltage model may require equipment beyond a simple plug adaptor and may be unsafe to use.
  3. Ask whether it is new, old stock, refurbished or used. A discontinued appliance can have storage wear, missing paperwork or a history of prior use even when the exterior looks clean.
  4. Inspect the cord and plug. Reject frayed insulation, bent pins, heat damage, loose strain relief or signs of amateur rewiring.
  5. Check the carriage and controls. The lever should latch and release smoothly; shade, bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel controls should respond without sticking.
  6. Verify the crumb tray and slot condition. A missing tray changes cleanup and fire-risk management. Look for bent slot guards, burnt residue or foreign objects.
  7. Get written return terms. Confirm who handles a fault, how long returns remain available and whether the seller will accept a safety-related return.
  8. Compare the total cost. Include delivery, any inspection cost and the risk of having no manufacturer-supported replacement if the unit fails.

Do not treat an old recommended retail price as a live market value. A scarce discontinued toaster can be listed above its original price without offering better performance, and a low price can reflect missing parts or an unsuitable electrical version. If an online listing uses affiliate links or stock badges, independently confirm that the product is actually CPT-5A, identify the seller and check whether it is new or used before relying on the advertised price.

Is the CPT-5A a sensible choice today?

It may suit you if

  • You specifically want a two-slice stainless-steel Cuisinart with the listed seven-position control and special programmes.
  • You prefer the reported multigrain and cycle-consistency results over the Anko’s advantage in evenness and speed.
  • You have verified an Australian/New Zealand 230V, 50Hz unit and a credible return arrangement.
  • You are comfortable with discontinued-product risks, including uncertain parts and limited warranty support.
  • You value a compact two-slot format and are willing to make separate cycles when more than two slices are needed.

Look elsewhere if

  • You need dependable, readily available stock for a household that cannot tolerate downtime.
  • You want a documented current warranty or a confirmed supply of replacement parts.
  • Your priority is the most even or fastest toast according to the cited comparison.
  • The listing cannot prove the exact model, electrical rating or condition.
  • The seller is charging a large scarcity premium for a unit with no return rights or missing crumb tray.

The choice is therefore less about a dramatic performance gap and more about supply and priorities. CHOICE’s one-point separation means that paying a large premium for a hard-to-verify CPT-5A listing is difficult to justify unless its specific design and controls are the reason you want it.

Using the Anko LD-T007 comparison properly

The Anko LD-T007 is a useful benchmark because it was tested alongside the CPT-5A, not because it is an officially equivalent Cuisinart model. In the CHOICE summary, it was faster and rated better for evenness, while the Cuisinart was a little better with multigrain bread and cycle consistency. Current availability, price and electrical specifications for any particular Anko listing must be checked separately.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

When comparing a live alternative with an old CPT-5A listing, use the same questions for both: slot width, shade-control range, bagel and frozen-bread behaviour, high-lift travel, crumb-tray design, plug and voltage, return terms, and the seller’s ability to supply a replacement if the unit is faulty. This produces a more useful decision than comparing stainless-steel appearance alone. Also compare the cost of two-slice capacity with your household’s daily volume; a slightly faster or four-slot model may deliver more value than a scarce two-slot unit.

Evidence limits you should keep in mind

No hands-on test was conducted for this article. The feature list comes from the retailer’s description, and the performance claims come from CHOICE’s summarized comparison. CHOICE’s accessible product page does not expose all detailed scores, and the available ProductReview.com.au directory result contains no CPT-5A owner reviews. Consequently, there is no established owner consensus here about long-term durability, noise, cleaning convenience or service experience.

No compatible replacement crumb tray or repair part was verified for this exact model. Do not assume that a tray or component for another Cuisinart toaster will fit simply because the products look similar. Ask the seller or an authorized service channel for model-specific confirmation before ordering a part. The absence of owner reviews also means that claims about years of reliable use, quiet operation or easy servicing would go beyond the evidence.

Bottom-line buying decision

The Cuisinart CPT-5A remains identifiable as an Australian-market two-slice toaster with a useful reported feature set, but it is a discontinued product with thin public evidence. The CHOICE comparison makes it competitive rather than clearly superior: the Anko was one percentage point ahead overall, better on evenness and 20 seconds faster in the reported race, while the Cuisinart had small advantages for multigrain bread and consistency. Seek the CPT-5A only when the exact model, Australian electrical rating, condition and return rights are all clear. Otherwise, a currently supported two-slice toaster with comparable slot and control requirements is the lower-risk purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cuisinart CPT-5A still available in Australia?

CHOICE lists it as discontinued, and retailer listings showed unavailable or out-of-stock signals. Remaining old stock, marketplace units or used examples may exist, so verify stock directly rather than assuming it is completely unavailable.

What is the Australian equivalent of the CPT-5A?

No one-for-one equivalent is established. The CPT-5A itself is the Australian-listed model. Other two-slice toasters, including the Anko LD-T007 used in a CHOICE comparison, are alternatives rather than confirmed equivalents.

How many browning settings does the CPT-5A have?

Peter’s of Kensington reports seven browning settings. The listing does not document the exact time or temperature range for each position.

Does the CPT-5A work on Australian power?

The retailer describes its unit as fitted with an Australian/New Zealand plug and designed for 230V/50Hz. Check the individual appliance rating label, especially for imported or second-hand units.

Which toaster performed better, the CPT-5A or Anko LD-T007?

CHOICE reported results only one percentage point apart. The Anko was rated better for evenness and finished the reported race in 2 minutes 35 seconds, 20 seconds faster; the Cuisinart was a little better for multigrain bread and cycle consistency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the CPT-5A have a warranty?

A CPT-5A-specific manufacturer warranty was not verified. Do not transfer warranty details from the separate US CPT-160P1 model. Ask the seller for written warranty and return terms.

Can I buy a replacement crumb tray for the CPT-5A?

No exact-model compatible tray was verified. Do not assume a tray from another Cuisinart toaster fits; obtain model-specific confirmation from the seller or an authorized service channel.

Are there owner reviews of the CPT-5A?

The ProductReview.com.au directory result retrieved for this model showed no reviews. Long-term durability and owner satisfaction therefore remain unresolved.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: buy the CPT-5A only if you can verify the exact discontinued model, 230V/50Hz Australian or New Zealand rating, condition and return protection. Its CHOICE result was close to the Anko LD-T007, with different strengths, but scarce stock and uncertain support make a current, documented alternative the safer choice for most shoppers.
