CSR Racing 2 tuning settings explained: gear ratio, nitrous and tire pressure

In CSR Racing 2, open your car in the garage and choose Tuning. The controls are available only after the matching parts reach their required upgrade stages: Nitrous Oxide at Stage 2, Gearbox at Stage 4 and Tires at Stage 3. Tune for the exact car, upgrade build and event distance, then verify each change with the in-game dyno and a comparable race. There is no single slider setting that is optimal for every car.

What CSR 2 tuning changes

Tuning changes how an upgraded car delivers its existing performance. It does not replace the underlying engine, transmission or tire upgrades, and the sliders are not universal presets. A setup that helps one car launch in a quarter-mile event can be poor for another car or for the same car in a half-mile event.

Zynga Player Support’s current Help Center instruction is: “To tune your car go to your garage and select Tuning.” Once inside, the available controls are Nitrous Oxide, Gearbox and Tire pressure, provided that each corresponding part has reached its unlock stage.

Unlock stages for each control

Tuning control Required part stage What the stage does
Nitrous Oxide Stage 2 Unlocks the nitrous tuning control.
Gearbox (shown as Final Drive in gameplay guidance) Stage 4 Unlocks the final-drive tuning control.
Tires Stage 3 Unlocks tire-pressure tuning.

These are access requirements, not recommended values. Reaching Stage 2, 3 or 4 does not tell you where to put a slider.

“Gear ratio” in the title means Final Drive in the game

Players often search for “gear ratio” settings, but the control described in CSR 2 gameplay guidance is labeled Final Drive. The evidence available for this control describes the overall final-drive ratio, not independent adjustment of every individual gear. Do not assume that changing Final Drive gives you separate first-, second- or third-gear sliders.

Final Drive is a trade-off between acceleration and maximum speed:

  • A higher final-drive setting favors quicker acceleration.
  • A lower final-drive setting favors greater maximum speed.

That trade-off makes race distance important. A quarter-mile run ends soon after the launch and early gears, so acceleration usually deserves more attention. A half-mile run gives the car more time to continue gaining speed, making maximum-speed potential more relevant. Treat those as starting hypotheses and confirm them with your own runs.

How nitrous tuning works

Nitrous tuning balances boost power against boost duration. Mark Brown’s Pocket Gamer guide (July 5, 2016) describes the slider relationship this way: moving it left increases duration while reducing power; moving it right produces a shorter, more powerful burst.

Choose duration or power based on the loss you can see

  • Longer duration: Test this when a short burst fades before a longer race is over. The extra time under boost can be useful in a half-mile event, but it is not guaranteed to improve every build.
  • More power: Test this when the car needs a stronger burst to build speed quickly, particularly when the run is decided early. A harder hit can also expose traction problems, so check the launch and wheelspin indicator.

Do not copy a slider position from a different car and call it a best setting. The same nitrous choice can behave differently after an engine, transmission or tire upgrade because the car’s acceleration and traction have changed. Move the slider, run the dyno, and then make a comparable race pass before deciding whether the change helped.

How Final Drive affects a run

Final Drive changes the balance between getting through acceleration sooner and continuing to pull speed later. Raising it is the direction to test when the car is losing time in the launch or early acceleration. Lowering it is the direction to test when the car reaches the end of the run needing more speed rather than more initial shove.

Quarter-mile approach

For a quarter-mile event, begin by looking for launch and early-acceleration losses. A higher Final Drive setting is the logical experiment, but keep the same car build and compare an actual run. If the change makes the car reach its useful speed sooner, the dyno and elapsed result should support that choice; if it causes excess wheelspin or an earlier loss of pull, reverse the change.

Half-mile approach

For a half-mile event, the car has more runway to benefit from speed later in the run. Test a lower Final Drive setting when the car appears acceleration-limited early but has room to gain speed afterward. The goal is not the lowest possible ratio; it is the setting that produces the best complete run for that build.

How tire-pressure tuning affects grip

Tire pressure is a balance involving grip and acceleration. Giving up too much grip can create wheelspin, and wheelspin wastes the power you are trying to put onto the track. The Pocket Gamer guide recommends watching the in-race wheelspin indicator and adjusting pressure for the specific car.

Use the wheelspin indicator as your evidence

If the indicator shows excessive spin during the launch or an early shift, test a tire-pressure change aimed at restoring grip, then repeat the same run. If the car launches cleanly but feels slower after a change, compare the elapsed result and dyno rather than assuming that a particular high or low pressure is always best. The available guidance does not establish one universal pressure value or even one universal direction for every car.

Recheck tire pressure after any substantial upgrade. More power, a different gearbox state or other part changes can alter the grip-versus-acceleration balance, so a pressure choice that worked before the upgrade may no longer be suitable.

  • Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
  1. Confirm the car and parts. In the garage, select the exact car you will race and check its installed upgrades. Make sure the desired control is unlocked: Stage 2 Nitrous Oxide, Stage 4 Gearbox or Stage 3 Tires.
  2. Identify the event distance. Note whether the target race is a quarter mile or a half mile. Do not tune for one distance and assume the result transfers unchanged to the other.
  3. Establish a baseline. Open the Tuning screen and run the in-game dyno before changing a slider. Record the current settings and the dyno’s indication of the car’s optimization for the race distance.
  4. Run a comparable pass. Use the same car, event type and launch approach. Watch the wheelspin icon and note where the run appears to lose time.
  5. Diagnose the main loss. Decide whether the problem is a weak early launch, wheelspin, a nitrous burst that ends too soon, or insufficient speed later in the run. Avoid changing all three controls at once; you would not know which change caused the result.
  6. Change one control in the appropriate direction. Test more nitrous power or more duration, a higher or lower Final Drive, or a tire-pressure adjustment aimed at the observed grip problem. Use small, deliberate changes and write down the previous setting so you can return to it.
  7. Check the dyno again. Use the dyno as a screening tool for the quarter-mile or half-mile objective. A favorable dyno indication is useful, but it is not a substitute for a race run with the same conditions.
  8. Race-test the change. Compare the new pass with the baseline. Review the wheelspin indicator during the run and the post-race speed chart afterward. Keep the change only when the complete run improves, not merely one moment of acceleration.
  9. Retune after upgrades. Any change to the car’s parts can alter the balance. Re-establish a baseline rather than carrying an old setup forward automatically.

How to read the dyno and race feedback

The in-game dyno

The dyno helps you judge whether a setup is oriented toward the selected race distance. Use it after each controlled change to identify a promising direction, then validate that direction on the track. A dyno result alone does not establish a guaranteed elapsed time or a best setting for every launch technique.

The wheelspin indicator

Wheelspin is a traction warning. If it appears during the launch, the engine is producing more usable force than the tires can put down at that moment. Test tire-pressure changes first when grip is the obvious limitation, and be cautious about adding an even harder nitrous hit until the launch is under control.

The post-race speed chart

The post-race speed chart shows where the car’s speed builds or falls off over the run. Use it to distinguish an early-acceleration problem from a later top-speed problem. That distinction tells you whether to investigate Final Drive, nitrous power-versus-duration, or tire grip next.

Choosing a setup by race distance

Question to answer Quarter-mile test direction Half-mile test direction
Where is time being lost? Prioritize launch and early acceleration. Check whether speed continues to build later in the run.
Final Drive experiment Test a higher setting for stronger acceleration. Test a lower setting when more maximum-speed potential is needed.
Nitrous experiment Test a shorter, stronger burst when early speed is the issue. Test longer duration when a short burst fades too soon.
Tire-pressure check Watch for launch wheelspin and protect usable grip. Check grip throughout the longer acceleration period.

The table describes test directions, not guaranteed answers. Two cars running the same distance can need opposite changes because their upgrades, power delivery and traction differ.

Common tuning mistakes and fixes

Using a tune from another car

Final Drive, nitrous and tire pressure interact with a car’s power and traction. A setting copied from another model or an earlier build has no established guarantee. Return to a baseline and test it on the target car.

Changing every slider together

When nitrous, Final Drive and tires all move at once, an improved or slower run provides little diagnostic information. Restore the baseline, change one control, and repeat a comparable run.

Tuning for the wrong distance

A quarter-mile setup emphasizes a short acceleration window; a half-mile setup has more time for top speed. Confirm the event distance before interpreting the dyno or choosing a direction for Final Drive and nitrous.

Ignoring wheelspin

A higher-power setting can look attractive on paper while losing time to tire spin. Use the in-race indicator and post-race chart to see whether power is reaching the track.

Failing to retune after an upgrade

Part upgrades change the car’s balance. Recheck all three controls after the build changes instead of assuming the previous tune remains optimal.

What is current, and what is not established

CSR 2 is listed by Zynga as available on iOS and Android. The latest update shown on the official site when checked was version 6.7.0, dated September 8, 2026. That listing does not establish that version 6.7.0 changed tuning mechanics. The unlock stages above come from the current official support guidance retrieved October 13, 2026.

The control trade-offs and race-distance advice are based on Mark Brown’s Pocket Gamer guide published July 5, 2016. They remain useful as general explanations of the sliders, but they are not a promise of identical behavior for every current car, upgrade combination or game update. No published source establishes a universal numeric setting or a performance statistic for a particular car. For a car-specific tune, you need the model, installed upgrades and target event, then must verify the result in-game.
